While stolen emails published by WikiLeaks did reveal that a then-CNN contributor Donna Brazile gave Clinton’s campaign a heads-up about some debate questions, it is a novel concept to suggest that this was somehow illegal. Moreover, a senior aide to her chief primary opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), has confirmed that Brazile routinely helped both campaigns.

The greatest irony is that if Trump believes that breaking primary debate rules is illegal and equal to collusion with foreign governments, he too is guilty. Trump repeatedly broke GOP debate rules, consulting with his campaign manager during commercial breaks.

Trump continues to focus much of his time as president attacking his 2016 general election opponent and the media’s coverage of his presidency. A CNN analysis from last month found he has tweeted attacks on the media more than he’s mentioned jobs or the military and veterans.

As the political scientist Anton Shekhovtsov has shown, Russia supports the extreme right in Europe and the United States in order to disrupt democracy. Nowhere has this been more successful than in Russia’s support of the Trump campaign. Conservatives would see the danger of a president whose major sponsors are abroad.

Let's outline Trump's achievements during his first six months in office

President Donald Trump's first six months have been defined by his often angry and tasteless tweets, his ham-handed efforts to denigrate and undercut the multiple investigations into Russian influence in the 2016 election and the stalemated legislative battle to repeal and replace Obamacare.

But Trump is right in saying he has significantly influenced government and the nation's image -- though much of his impact has been negative. His most significant clear-cut triumph was installing conservative Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. He can take credit for slowing the inflow of illegal immigrants. And his impact has gone well beyond that, a conclusion on which two recent articles from opposite ends of the ideological spectrum agreed.

"While You Obsessed over Trump's Scandals, He's Fundamentally Changed the Country," headlined Sam Stein in the liberal HuffPost. "Reporters only want to talk about Russia, instead of what Team trump is getting done," was part of the headline over conservative Kimberly Strassel's column in The Wall Street Journal.

With contrary attitudes, they cited some identical examples, from authorizing the Dakota Access Pipeline to easing environmental restrictions on energy protection.

Strassel hailed the Fish and Wildlife Service for slowing an endangered species listing for the Texas Hornshell, a freshwater mussel she said "threatens significant harm to the Texas economy." Stein expressed concern over easing Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements for reporting worker injury data and letting coal companies dump debris into local streams.

Here are some other Trump "achievements:"

FOREIGN POLICY

-Embraced autocrats in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Egypt and abandoned longtime U.S leadership in seeking to enhance democracy and human rights.

-Insulted U.S. allies in Europe, especially Germany, and undercut longstanding U.S. treaty commitments.

-Compromised Israel's intelligence sources.

-Spurred more divisiveness in an already divided Middle East by setting off a squabble between Saudi Arabia, a major U.S. ally, and Qatar, home of the region's biggest U.S. military base.

-Undermined U.S. global leadership on climate change by withdrawing from the Paris agreement, joining only Syria and Nicaragua as nonparticipants.

-Reversed decades of Republican support for free trade, ceding leadership in Asia to China by withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and elsewhere by encouraging the British exit from the European Community.

DOMESTIC POLICY

-Proposed a budget with massive cuts that would shred the social safety net and cripple longstanding governmental functions.

-Created uncertainty in the nation's health care system by sending inconsistent administrative signals and supporting legislation that could deprive millions of people health insurance coverage, undermine Medicaid health support for lower income Americans and give wealthy taxpayers a massive tax cut.

-Mismanaged the federal government by failing to fill many top spots and installing an inexperienced, dysfunctional White House staff.

-Expanded the policy of deporting dangerous illegal aliens by including many people with minimal records, stable jobs and American families.

-Created a commission to investigate his unproven allegations of voter fraud because he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton.

-Reversed decades of bipartisan cooperation in extending environmental preservation of national landmarks.

-Hired foxes to watch the chicken coops by filling his administration with archconservatives, many with records opposing the very agencies in which they work, and curbing civil rights and environmental enforcement.

INSTITUTIONAL DAMAGE:

-Committed potentially impeachable offenses of obstructing justice that prompted appointment of a Special Counsel by firing FBI Director James Comey, because of his probe into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russia, and urging other intelligence officials to pressure Comey to halt the probe.

-Undermined the courts with denunciations of judges and their decisions affecting his administration's policies, especially those curbing his hastily issued ban on Muslim travel from certain countries.

-Without evidence, accused former President Barack Obama of illegally wiretapping his phones.

-Repeatedly misrepresented his administration's policies and trashed officials with whom he has disagreements, calling the ousted Comey "a nut job," Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer the "head clown" and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi an "incompetent."

-Intensified racial and other divisions by reducing governmental civil rights guarantees and reversing protections for sexual and racial minorities.

-Violated his own self-proclaimed ethics laws by allowing officials to deal with issues affecting their former employers. Permitted multiple instances in which he and other family members benefit financially from his presidency.

-Waged a vendetta against news outlets subjecting his administration to scrutiny, calling the mainstream media the "enemy of the American people" and denouncing unfavorable stories as "fake news." Undercut White House press institutions intended to facilitate dialogue between the presidency and the public.

Trump has failed so far to enact promised measures to increase economic growth, resulting in reduced long-term forecasts. Many economic numbers he touts exaggerate his impact and denigrate the carryover effect of positive Obama policies. Military progress against ISIS has not eased its terrorist threat.

The result: the least support for any new modern president, an exacerbation of domestic divisions, and unprecedented global disdain and embarrassment.

Tourism to the U.S. Has Been in Decline Since Trump Took Office

Travel to the United States has dropped as much as 16 percent in the months since President Donald Trump took office — and there's no sign of recovery, according to a new study.

Analyzing data gathered from over 50 million mobile users across the world, location intelligence company Foursquare found that America’s share of international tourism to leisure locations has declined by an average of 11 percent since October 2016, with a low of 16 percent in March.

From October 2016 through March 2017, Foursquare found foreign travel to the States had decreased by 11 percent, year over year.

California, in particular Los Angeles and San Diego, saw the biggest decrease in international visitors. While both cities saw strong year-over-year gains in fall 2016, Foursquare found that international tourism dropped sharply in the first quarter of 2017.

And while it seems positive that business trip activity is up in the U.S. by about 3 percent (as a share of international traveler global activity), Foursquare notes that this trend is not as high as elsewhere in the world, where year over year trends are closer to 10 percent.

Tourism Lifts All Boats
It’s not just hotels and airlines that will be hurt by big dips in foreign visitors to the United States; retailers are sure to feel the pinch as well.

Foursquare’s data shows the drop in international tourism to the U.S. is causing an ‘opportunity cost’ of about 1.2 percent in total visits to U.S. shops, restaurants and attractions.

And while that doesn’t seem like much, it can mean an additional 1 to 2 percent year-over-year sales hit to U.S. retailers “already operating on thin margins and besieged by competition from Amazon, e-commerce as a whole, and a generally competitive and ‘over-stored’ economy,” notes Foursquare.

While the strength of the U.S. dollar may be having causing some foreign visitors to decide to vacation elsewhere, the Trump administration’s policies on immigration and tourism visas and the current ban on a broad range of electronic devices in the cabins of U.S.-bound aircraft from certain countries certainly isn’t making the United States seem tourist friendly right now.

Nor is the talk of expanding the electronics ban to aircraft heading to the U.S. from Europe and other countries, or the fact that President Trump’s federal budget document proposes to eliminate the Brand USA tourism marketing agency.

"With all that's going on in the world, unilaterally disarming the marketing of the U.S. as a travel destination would be to surrender market share at the worst possible time,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow in a statement.

With international travel spending supporting millions of American jobs, Dow said he was struggling to understand how cutting Brand USA even squares with the Trump’s administration's stated priorities.

For all the handwringing, though, there may be a silver lining in the turndown of foreign visitors to the United States: smaller crowds and better deals to anyone who does plan a U.S. vacation.

“That's if restaurants, attractions, and other leisure categories start feeling the pinch and decide to add new promotions into the mix,” said Foursquare CEO Jeff Glueck.

‘This is where everything starts to unravel’: Trump aides worry nothing will get done after healthcare flop

As the majority of President Donald Trump’s most famous aides — Steve Bannon, Jared Kushner and Kellyanne Conway — get to work on other priorities, other White House staffers are privately worried that after the Senate GOP failed to repeal and replace Obamacare, nothing will get done.

According to aides who spoke to Politico, the tumultuous back-and-forth about the Republican healthcare plan has induced anxiety.

“The real fear is that this is where everything starts to unravel,” one aide told Politico on condition of anonymity. “It makes things harder for the debt ceiling and it makes tax reform way harder. People are saying, ‘oh my god, if we couldn’t come together on repeal and replace, how are we possibly going to do tax reform?’”

On Capitol Hill, that worry is less about not moving forward in general and more about the White House’s apparent Obamacare impasse.

“They’re looking at what are the wins they can get now: the border, or tax reform,” a Hill aide close to the White House told Politico. “If they have a plan to revive healthcare, I don’t know what it is.”

Despite Trump’s insistence that neither he nor the party will “own” Obamacare’s failure, privately, the finger has pointed firmly in the direction at party leadership — including at Chief of Staff Reince Preibus, who was infamously photographed hiding behind a trash can on Tuesday as he and Vice President Mike Pence took meetings on the Hill about the doomed bill.

“He pushed healthcare first,” one White House official told Politico of Priebus. “He owns the outcome.”
