The new scouts BSA international jamboree in West Virginia is passing condoms.
This being the first coed jamboree all participants are required to have condoms.
Adult leaders are also allowed to have adult beverage.

They have actually given out condoms at the "WORLD" Jamboree (this is not put on by BSA, but the World Organization Scouting Movement) since the '90s. This is just the first year that female scouts will be in attendance. Previously, mostly in the regard of realizing that there may be gay activity during.

Boy has Scouting changed since I was one in the fifties and 60's. Back then if you were caught with a condom, they probably would have kicked you out.

Actually, giving a teen a condom is encouraging them to not have babies. I know this is a fine distinction, but it should be noticed.

It's difficult for our neo-cons and Baptist mullahs to let go of the idea that the twin threats of pregnancy and STD's are enough to discourage teen sex. It's even more difficult for them to see pregnancy and STD's as anything other than God's punishment for having illicit sex. Their solution to this problem, which is to tell teens to save themselves for marriage, has never worked, and like any other religious exercise which doesn't work, they can't let it go.

When I was in the Boy Scouts, I learned how to make a tourniquet and treat a snake bite. These are two skills I have never had to use. A lesson in condoms would have been immensely practical.

It's been about 30 years since I last faced the risk of getting someone pregnant, and I took that risk very seriously. If I had understood that risk, 15 years earlier, my life would be much different than it is now. I'm not complaining, but it's easy to look back and spot the critical turning points. If the Boy Scouts does nothing more than impress upon each young man that he is equally responsible for not getting someone pregnant, We'll have a generation of slightly older young men who understand. That alone will be worth the thousands of condoms that will never get a chance to be used.

Oh I forgot that you permissive liberals believe that human beings (especially teens) are just animals who have zero control over their urges. Thanks for reminding me. Telling kids the consequences of certain behaviors (sexual promiscuity, drug use, etc.) and urging them to "just say no" won't work. Thus we need to hand out condoms and "safe" needles to them. Doing this won't actually result in the increase of such behaviors. Oh no. Not at all.

FYI: Condoms are not 100% effective. Thus to call using them "safe sex" is a lie. The only 100% safe method is abstinence. It works every single time that it's tried.
