Sean Spicer resigns as White House press secretary
White House press secretary Sean Spicer, President Donald Trump’s embattled spokesman during the first six months of his presidency, is resigning his position, according to two people with knowledge of the decision.

Spicer’s decision appears to be linked to the appointment of a new White House communications director, New York financier Anthony Scaramucci. The people with knowledge of the decision spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the personnel matter publicly.

Spicer’s daily press briefings had become must-see television until recent weeks when he took on a more behind-the-scenes role. Deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has largely taken over the briefings, turning them into an off-camera event.

Sarah Kendzior: GOP: It’s time to get off the Trump train. You have nothing left to lose

Spicer spent several years leading communications at the Republican National Committee before helping Trump’s campaign in the general election. He is close to White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, the former RNC chair, and several of the lower-ranking aides in the White House communications shop.

Priebus told The Associated Press that he supports Scaramucci “100 per cent,” despite reportedly trying to prevent the financier from getting multiple administration positions.

“We go back a long, long way and are very good friends,” Priebus said of Scaramucci. “All good here.”

Scaramucci is expected to play a visible role as one of Trump’s defenders on television. But Spicer and other officials questioned his hiring as communications director ahead of the president’s push to overhaul the tax system and other policy issues. One of the officials said Spicer objected to Trump’s vision for the future of the press operation.

Spicer’s resignation set off a chaotic scene in the White House briefing room, as journalists gathered near a doorway seeking more details on his departure. White House officials had yet to announce the timing of the daily briefing — and who would be conducting it.

Spicer’s tenure got off to a rocky start. On Trump’s first full day in office, Spicer lambasted journalists over coverage of the crowd size at the inauguration and stormed out of the briefing room without answering questions.

Spicer, who often displayed a fiery demeanour in tense on-camera exchanges with reporters, became part of culture in the way few people in his job have, particularly through an indelible impersonation by Melissa McCarthy on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”

She portrayed Spicer as a hostile figure who tore through the briefing room on a portable podium, willing to attack the press.

Spicer remained loyal to Trump but he frequently battled perceptions that he was not plugged in to what the president was thinking, and had to worry that Trump was watching and critiquing his performance from the Oval Office.

Throughout the start of the administration, there was always the possibility that Trump would undermine something Spicer said by simply sending out a tweet.

This is a major win for the mainstream media and shows that you need to "play nice" even if you don't like someone ...

Sean Spicer resigns as Trump seeks to repair public image
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - White House spokesman Sean Spicer resigned on Friday, ending a brief and turbulent tenure that made him a household name, amid further upheaval within President Donald Trump's inner circle.

A White House official confirmed the departure of Spicer, 45, and said Trump had named Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci as his new, top communications official.

While not a surprise, Spicer's departure was abrupt and reflected heightened turmoil within Trump's legal and communication teams amid a widening investigation into possible ties between Trump's 2016 campaign and the Kremlin.

Parodied memorably by Melissa McCarthy on the "Saturday Night Live" sketch comedy show for his combative encounters with the White House press corps, Spicer became one of the Trump administration's most recognized figures.

He invited controversy from the beginning, attacking the news media in his debut appearance as press secretary for reporting what he called inaccurate crowd numbers at Trump's inauguration.

"This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe," he said, an assertion that quickly drew scorn.

Reporters gather at the White House upon hearing that Press Secretary Sean Spicer resigned in Washington, U.S., July 21, 2017.Jonathan Ernst
While the White House official gave no reason for Spicer's resignation, the New York Times reported that he had quit over Scaramucci's appointment. Spicer had been serving as both press secretary and communications director, but with a lower profile recently.

Spicer was targeted by critics for what they said were false or misleading statements. In recent weeks, he has less frequently taken the lectern in the White House press room.

From the start, Spicer and other Trump aides sought to shake up the status quo in White House dealings with the media, including cutting back daily televised news briefings and replacing them with audio briefings only.

When Trump tapped Spicer for the job of press secretary, he was spokesman for the Republican National Committee.

Separately, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating the possible Trump-Russia ties, has asked White House officials to preserve any records of a meeting last year between the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Russian lawyer, a source with knowledge of the request said on Friday.

The White House said deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders will give an on-camera briefing on Friday afternoon.

Trump's style during the campaign included changing top personnel more often than he changed his socks. He seems to be using the same style as president.

The last sentence of the article would give anyone reason to quit.

I don't know. Six months in that position in the Trump Administration show that he can tolerate a lot of crap from both the press AND Trump.

Not really... Obama's press secretaries lasted 2, 3, and 3 years each. If that was a revolving door, it moved very slow.

During the Obama adminisatration, the lies were orchastrated the evening prior.

Memos were sent out at 3:00 a.m.

No one can claim with any real accuracy....that Obama and his henchmen/women were not organized, actually better than any well lubricated machine.

However...time caught up with their lies.

I do feel for Sean. At least we know he will not need to keep washing his hands so often. The amount of Listerine he must have been using couldn't be good for him.

I remember the moment I first felt really sorry for him. It was during the Vatican trip. Sean is apparently a fervent and committed Catholic. His dearest wish was to meet the Pope. Trump not only could have but should have, arranged this.; it would have cost him nothing and earned him the undying thanks of Mr Spicer. But classic symptoms of narcissism are small-mindedness, spite, and nastiness. If we needed confirmation of what sort of individual the orange creature is, there it was for all the world to see.

Actually I am happy for Sean Spicer, he is a smart and decent enough guy that accepted an impossible assignment in trying to explain Trump's rationale.

If head doctors can't even do that, Spicer stood NO chance but gave it a valiant effort and I truly wish him success in the future as far from the White House as he can get ... then maybe he will only need to shower max twice a day !!!

Huckleberry is next and I feel for her too as you can see in her facial expressions that she has as much contempt for the prepared statements she makes as she does for the media.

Blind followers learned in Nuremberg , and other places ,
the price of giving up integrity.

      There are choices in life.
      An important one ,
is to be part of a problem ,
      or,
      part of the solution.

Show me a central government anywhere in the world that has integrity anymore.

Show me anyone that has been affiliated with a central government over their political career that has maintained half of the integrity that entered with.

Government slowly sucks away at integrity.

Well we have one here that dose pretty well.
Not perfect , but they certainly can't get away with a litany of alternative facts ,
and liers caught , are dealt with pretty quickly ,
out of a job , and in court if warranted.

You see the thing about integrity is ,
if you require it , then mostly , you'll get it ,
but if you let it slip ,
and don't check the slippage ,
then you'll have less of it ,
      until you have none.

Then where dose it end ?
      Nuremberg II ?
