Because you never know when you won't have them anymore.

I unexpectedly lost my mother today. My sister found her semi-conscious last night around 8:30 pm. She could not move her right side and she eventually went into organ system failure and passed away this afternoon around 1:15 PM PST. I was unable to be with her.

I wrote her a long newsy email yesterday and hopefully she was able to read it. I will no longer get anymore emails or cards from my mom. She was a great letter writer and was always faithful to remember every birthday and holiday and that's all over now.

You know that one day you will eventually lose your parents, but it doesn't make it any easier when it happens.

When they are gone, they are gone.

 

So sorry to hear that sweetheart, my heart goes out to you. I lost my parents also.
Best thing I found to do was to pass on to my girls the things I cherished most about them.

My condolences to you and your family, your mom sounds like my late wife ( she just passed away mid March) she would also write a lot and remember birthdays etc. at least till last year sometime when her memory started to slip due to medication and pain.

 

Yes they're gone in a physical term, however they're never gone from your memory.
I'm always reminiscing about my mum's little quirks, having a giggle at the silly things she sometimes said or did.

 

I lost my mom on Mother's day of all fucking days 10 years ago.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my Mom 4 years ago, and I still get the urge to pick up the phone and tell her something silly about my day.
You will always feel that connection to her, and over time you will be able to enjoy reminiscing about your time with her more than the pain you feel at her loss.

I agree with you, before my wife died we had started to say "I Love You." every time we parted do to many sudden deaths in our families. You never know.
You and yours are in my thoughts & prayers.
Remember she will always be there in your memories with love and thus she will never be far from your heart.

Losses such as these are sharp and hurt so very much, expected or not. The ones that come as a surprise seem to be accompanied by an added shock that only contributes to the burden of pain and grief.
