Okay, let’s try something new here, and see if it’s fun: I am going to write short segments of a story, and at a breaking point in the narrative I’ll give a couple of paths to choose from. If you want to participate, comment/answer the post with the number of the path you’d like it to continue with. Once I’ve gotten a more or less representative sample of answers, I’ll continue the story from there with what has been the most popular choice, until we run into another fork in the road and you can choose again. And so on, and so on. It sounds complicated, but it really isn’t:

As far as Dream Fairies go, your life is really pretty average: Visiting different human dreamers every night, watching over their sleep, entering their dreams and making sure their slumber is deep, calm and joyful. Are you always successful? Do all your dreamers wake up calm and refreshed every time? Certainly not. But it’s a job, and as far as jobs go, it could be a lot worse. Like, those Mushroom Fairies, for instance, dancing night after night around mushroom circles like it’s 500 BCE all over again. You shudder, just to think of it, as you take your last sip of coffee, and then take off to take care of tonight’s dreamer.

As you rapidly approach the small town you’ve picked for your destination, you find that there are three people for you to choose from, who are still without a Dream Fairy:

A) Jodie, a middle-aged, married woman, exhausted from a stressful day at the office.
B) Paige, a young college student, who’s visiting her family during her break from university.
C) Natalie, a single woman in her 20’s, who just returned from a long walk along the lake and is about to fall asleep in her chair.

A) Jodie, a middle-aged, married woman, exhausted from a stressful day at the office.

The house you steer towards to is in a nice neighbourhood. Clean streets, tidy yards, new and modern buildings lined up along a road that curves and bends a little bit across a small hill, and then leads down toward a lake. Your destination is pretty much in the middle of that road, the second of a row of half a dozen or so similar looking houses which show that one can be able to afford expensive things and still not stand out amongst one’s neighbours.

As usual, nobody notices your passing, and you enter the building through one of the smaller nooks along the roof. You try to avoid going down the chimney, because there’s just no way to avoid getting soot all over you, and you hate having to wash your work clothes every day. The house itself is dark and quiet, and your fairy senses tell you that everyone around you is asleep, except for a particularly hungry mouse burrowing somewhere in the crawlspace underneath the floor, and a slightly less hungry cat which is nevertheless very interested in the aforementioned mouse.

1) You head towards the bedroom, where Jodie, your client for tonight is already heading off to the deeper regions of dream and slumber.

2) Before you get to work, you’re tempted to have a look around the house, just to get a better idea about its occupants (and maybe satisfy your own curiousity just a little bit).

3) You’re wondering what other dream fairies are on duty tonight with you in this house, and how they’re doing with their own dreamers.

The house isn’t very big, and from what you’ve seen, perfectly normal. Almost boringly normal, to be exact. In you line of work you’ve seen your fair share of houses, and this one screams “suburban family with a decorating sense straight out of an interior design magazine”: Tan, muted colours for the walls, swirly designs in between pastel pictures, family photos and crosses. The living room is tidy, orderly, and perfectly symmetrical, except on one side, tall windows look out across a dark front lawn, while on the other side it moves straight into the kitchen, only separated by the kitchen counter. A hallway leads down to the bedrooms of the couple living there, and another room for their daughter, each with their own bathroom.

1) Maybe the living room will tell you most about this family. It’s where they spend most of their time, after all.

2) After centuries of dreamers, you’ve learned that nothing tells you more about a person than their kitchen.

3) Checking out the daughter might tell you more about her mother, you think as your eyes are fixed on the daughter’s bedroom.

You fly through a crack in the door and enter a room that’s still a little too teenager-ish for the young woman asleep in it. She must be around 18 or 19, so the pink glittery wallpaper and the boygroup posters seem slightly out of place. Still, you’ve seen worse.

Another fairy has already entered her dreams, which should keep her occupied enough for you to safely go through her things, you dirty, dirty voyeur, you. With a sigh and a smirk, you look around what you can glimpse in the half light of the moon and stars.

If you were a different kind of fairy, you’d help her clean this mess up, but the way things are, you might just have a look around.

God, how can one person have so much useless crap in one place? Let’s see, there’s coins, a large mirror with some notes tucked into the corners (“call JENNY!”, “Tues 11PM 21st Ave 2155”, “Bitches gotta Bitch”), a handbag, another handbag, a drawer full of handbags, all of them mostly empty except for the one currently in use, which has some makeup, tweezers, a banana in a box, paper tissues, three lipsticks, condoms, some pills in a glittery tin box and, for some reason, two phones in it. There’s a small notepad, a pink diary with fairies on it (that is, not real fairies, but those garish cartoonish impressions of what some people think fairies look like) and a small egg-shaped vibrator.

The drawers contain mainly underwear (pink is the dominant colour here as well), some stockings (which technically are underwear, too, but seem to be a class of their own) some cardboard boxes with photos, a couple of letters, some of which look like they should really really be taken care of and a pregnancy test (used, and negative). There’s a heart-shaped… thingy, maybe a brooch or some kind of pendant, from someone named “Joosh”, at least that’s what is written on the back. “From Joosh.” That’s what it says. You hope she’s found a new boyfriend with a real name by now.

You enter the couple’s bedroom through a half-open door. Whatever the two are doing in there, it doesn’t seem to warrant a lot of privacy, which is confirmed by the peaceful scene before you: Soft snores from the husband’s side of the bed, where you can sense the presence of another fairy already inside his dreams. Whatever they are, they don’t seem to disturb him too much.

Your dreamer, on the other side, is a pretty average brunette. She’s middle-aged, in human terms, so around 40, you estimate, with that conservative haircut that pretty much guarantees she won’t get too much attention anywhere she goes: Straight, shoulder length, no frills, slightly puffy, but not in an extravagant way. She’s laying on her back, breathing in the quiet night air, drifting off into regions of slumber that might prove to be adventurous.

2) Maybe a quick look around the bedroom won’t hurt, you think as you eye your surroundings.

3) You wonder who’s taking care of the husband, and play with the thought of paying them a short visit, just to see if everything’s fine.

4) Maybe there’s something else in the rest of the house that you’ve missed? You glance back across your shoulder, thinking about exploring it further.

1) Alright, let’s get to work, you tell yourself as you begin to enter her dreams. This is what you’re here for, after all.

You take a deep breath, and then dive right in. It’s confusing at first, like it always is before you get your bearings, but then, things start to make some sense: You’re at home, except it isn’t your home, but the house, Jodie’s house, your dreamer’s house. And you’re not you, but… well, younger… hornier… a teenager… you’re Jodie’s daughter! And currently, you’re so very much involved with riding a big, thick, nice long bottle that you didn’t even notice that your mum’s standing in the doorway, watching you for a minute or two, until you finally orgasm and with a deep, long sigh, you sink down on your bed, sweaty, exhausted, but blissful.

Your mother’s voice startles you and makes your hair stand on end. “Clarissa, what in God’s name are you doing there?”

1) You scramble and try to hide the damning evidence (including your half-naked body) underneath your blanket, acting like nothing happened. “N-nothing mom, I swear,” you stammer.

2) You turn around and notice her standing right in the door frame, wondering how long she’s already been watching you, the horny old slut. Obviously, denying anything is futile, and you’re not feeling very remorseful anyway. “Can’t I get any privacy in this house?” you yell at her instead, pouting.

3) With the bottle still in side, and a wicked grin on your lips, you start rocking back and forth again, slowly riding it once more, making sure she can get a good look between your legs. “What does it look like I’m doing, mom?” you ask seductively.
