President Obama's first and foremost plan was to not send ground troops into Syria and get us into another debacle like Iraq. And the second part of President Obama's plan was to tell Iraq and others that the US will help but the only real solution is Iraq and their partners must step up and fight their own battles which is also working.

ISIS’s great recruitment tool is the vast territory they still control even after a year and a half of constant coalition airstrikes. By just holding on against what they deem as an imperial force of infidels they retain high-credibility within their twisted world. Unless the coalition gets serious about totally overhauling its strategy and aggressively reducing ISIS footprint via ground operations, and holding that ground after, don’t expect the Islamic State to be greatly weakened anytime soon.

Trump sells $15.8 million condo to Chinese businessperson who arranges financial deals between countries

In one of the first major business deals concluded since Donald Trump became president, a Chinese businesswoman just closed on the purchase of $15.8 million condo owned by Trump’s real estate business.

According to Mother Jones, businesswoman and consultant Xiao Yan Chen bought a four-bedroom, six-bathroom condo in Trump’s Park Avenue high-rise on February 21. The property was purchased from Trump Park Avenue LLC, where Trump was on the board of directors before resigning just before being sworn in as president.

While Trump is not on the board, he is still a principal of the LLC.

Chen is the founder and managing director of a business consulting firm called Global Alliance Associates which sells itself as a go-between, connecting wealthy business people with Chinese interests to develop new business ventures in her home country.

The company’s website states they specialize in, “Establishing a network of credible and proprietary relationships, known by the Chinese as ‘ghanxi,’ is the single most important aspect of initiating and sustaining a successful business venture in China.”

Mother Jones reports that, as of last week, the luxury condo Chen purchased was listed on real estate website Zillow for $14 million, or about $2 million less than the business consultant paid.

Kuwait could pay up to $60,000 for party at Trump Hotel in Washington

The Kuwaiti government could pay up to $60,000 to President Donald Trump's hotel in Washington for a party it held on Wednesday in an early test of Trump's promise to turn over profits from such events to the U.S. Treasury.

The Kuwait Embassy hosted an event to mark their National Day. Similar National Day celebrations at the Trump International Hotel for a crowd of several hundred can run from $40,000 to $60,000, according to cost estimates from the hotel seen by Reuters. The hotel declined to comment on the figures.

One of Trump's lawyers, Sheri Dillon, pledged at a Jan. 11 press conference to donate any Trump Hotel profits from foreign governments to the U.S. Treasury.

The White House and Alan Garten, the general counsel for the Trump Organization, did not return calls for comment on whether any profits from foreign government payments to the hotel have been donated. Dillon's firm declined to comment.

Kuwaiti Ambassador Salem al-Sabah told Reuters he was paying the Trump Hotel an amount similar to what he had paid the Four Seasons hotel to host a previous National Day event. He said on Wednesday before the event that he expected it to draw 500 or 600 people, but declined to disclose specific cost details.

The Four Seasons, which declined to comment, also charges prices in the $40,000 to $60,000 range for such events, according to cost estimates seen by Reuters.

A watchdog group led by former ethics lawyers for the Obama and George W. Bush administrations sued Trump in federal court in January, accusing him of violating the Constitution by allowing foreign government payments to businesses he owns.

Some ethics lawyers say even if Trump turns over all of the profits from the Kuwait National Day party, he would still be in violation of the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits government officials from accepting "any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State."

They say all of the income from the event, not just profits, would need to be donated to the U.S. Treasury to avoid contravening the constitutional ban.

Trump resigned in February as an officer of Trump Old Post Office LLC, the company that operates the hotel, but Richard Painter, Bush's chief ethics lawyer, said the resignation made no difference as long as Trump retained an interest in it.

The ethics experts say Trump is still technically a recipient of payments to his hotels because he still has an ownership interest in them.

Dillon, Trump's lawyer, argued at the Jan. 11 press conference that payments to Trump's hotels do not violate the Constitution because "paying for a hotel room is not a gift or a present and it has nothing to do with an office."

She also said that a separate law banning federal employees from engaging in matters affecting their financial interests does not apply to the president. The head of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics agreed in public remarks in January but said it was "consistent policy of the executive branch" for the president to nevertheless avoid financial conflicts of interest.

The office declined to comment when asked by Reuters whether Trump would be contravening the Constitution if he did not turn over all hotel income from foreign governments.

Four Democratic U.S. lawmakers asked the Government Accountability Office on Feb. 16 to assess whether Trump had made any payments to the Treasury resulting from profits at his hotels. GAO spokesman Chuck Young said the request was still being reviewed and the agency had not yet decided what to do about it.

When the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee was asked on Feb. 23 whether it would be tracking payments from foreign governments to Trump Hotels, and from the hotels to the U.S. Treasury, a spokeswoman for the committee declined to comment.

Profiting Off The Presidency – Military To Lease Space In Trump Tower

Since Donald Trump has decided that he doesn’t want to spend all of his time in The White House, the military is looking to lease space in Trump Tower in order to maintain a close presence to the President, which includes being nearby with the “nuclear football.” This will cost taxpayers no less than $1.5 million a year – money that goes right back into Donald Trump’s pocket. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

Donald Trump is going to make damn sure that he uses the office of the Presidency to put more money in his pocket. The latest issue that we’ve seen with this, the latest piece of evidence that we have is the fact that the US military, the Department of Defense is actually looking to lease space, lease an apartment, lease an entire floor in Trump Tower in New York City. Now the reason they’re doing this is not because they want to give Donald Trump more money, it’s because Trump has decided that he wants to kind of split his time between DC and New York City, and in doing so, the military, the secret service, all those people involved in protecting the President, and having everything ready for him when he needs it, have to be somewhere, so they have to be in Trump Tower.

Trump’s decision to split his time has forced the military to look for space to lease in Trump Tower, which that money will then go directly into the pocket of Donald Trump. Now the minimum space that they could lease in the Tower would cost 1.5 million dollars a year. That’s 1.5 million dollars a year that’s paid for by us, the taxpayers for a man who doesn’t pay his taxes. That 1.5 million dollars of our tax money, at least if they rented bigger space, it’s going to be a lot more than that goes directly in his pocket. It’s owned by the Trump organization. He still gets the profits off of that. Whether or not he put it in a blind trust is irrelevant, because money paid directly to that company will still end up in his pocket, all because he doesn’t want to live in the White House all the time.

Now here’s the thing. The military has to do this, because they have what’s known as the little military football, the little box that has the nuclear codes in it, ready to go. That’s even worse when you think about it. They have to be right there next to him in Trump Tower in case he want’s to launch a nuclear strike. Think about that for a second. Donald Trump has to have somebody around him all the time with nuclear codes, just so that he can launch nuclear strikes against anyone at the drop of a hat. That’s even more terrifying.

Now Republicans are already jumping to defend this issue, saying that other President’s have done the same thing, they had to rent a space in Chicago for Barack Obama, you know the military had to in Chicago. Yeah, Barack Obama didn’t own the apartment building though. He didn’t lease them one of his properties and then pocket the money. That’s the issue. The issue isn’t that they have to be near him, it’s that he’s living in his own building and so we the taxpayers are paying for this. We’re paying to have somebody stand near Donald Trump in case that psychopath wants to launch a nuclear strike, and Donald Trump gets that money.

That’s what the Presidency is about to him. How much money can he make off it? We saw earlier this week, he’s tweeting out angry things at Nordstrom’s, because they want to discontinue his daughters clothing or jewelry line or whatever it is. The President of the United States personally attacking a privately owned business on Twitter. Isn’t that exactly what the Republican party is against? Where’s the Republican outcry from this? Where’s the Republican outcry about wasted tax dollars because Donald Trump doesn’t want to be away from his home.

You won the White House, sorry you got to be there. Maybe every now and then you take a vacation back to your old place in New York or Mar-a-Lago or wherever the hell you want to go. The White House was the prize. Whether you like it or not, you won it. You’re not going to use that office to get rich. You’re going to use that office to protect the people. Now obviously you won’t do that. Given enough time, given enough mistakes by you, we’ll be able to replace you with somebody who will.

Let's see, a person with minimal finances wins the White House. The person swears s/he will be totally divested of any and all things which might "look" bad. Eight years later, the person leaves the White House as a multi-millionaire. A rich person wins the White House and his/her fortune grows over his/her eight years. The problem is with the former not the latter, in my opinion.

President Trump on Saturday claimed President Obama had his "wired tapped" in Trump Tower before Election Day, tweeting the accusation without offering evidence.

"Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my 'wires tapped' in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!" he wrote.

"Is it legal for a sitting President to be "wire tapping" a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!" he added in subsequent tweets. "I'd bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!"

It was not immediately clear whether Trump had any proof or was referencing a report. Breitbart News on Friday reported on conservative radio host Mark Levin's claim that Obama executed a "silent coup" of Trump via "police state" tactics. White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon was the executive chair of Breitbart before joining Trump's team.

Observers have noted the president's tendency to tweet things - including a 2003 photo tweeted Friday of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) with Russian President Vladimir Putin - shortly after they were published on pro-Trump blogs like Gateway Pundit or conservative websites like Drudge Report.

Moments earlier, Trump had also linked Obama to Attorney General Jeff Sessions's meetings last year with Russia's U.S. ambassador.

"The first meeting Jeff Sessions had with the Russian Amb was set up by the Obama Administration under education program for 100 Ambs," he tweeted.

Sessions on Thursday said he would recuse himself from any investigations into Russia's links to Trump's team, after massive outrage over the revelations that he met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak twice during the campaign, then denied doing so during his confirmation hearings.

Trump on Saturday also blasted Obama for meeting with Kislyak 22 times while president, tweeting: "Just out: The same Russian Ambassador that met Jeff Sessions visited the Obama White House 22 times, and 4 times last year alone."

Trump's team has sought to push back on accusations of coziness with Russia by pointing out instances of Democrats meeting with Kislyak. Critics have responded that the issue isn't that Sessions met with the ambassador, but that he falsely told Congress he hadn't while under oath.

Former national security advisor Michael Flynn was ousted last month after revelations that he misled top White House officials about the nature of his conversations with Kislyak.

Ordinarily, when crimes are suspected, there is a criminal investigation, not a national-security investigation. According to the New York Times (based on FBI sources), the FBI initially determined that the Trump Tower server did not have “any nefarious purpose.” But then, Heat Street says, “the FBI’s counter-intelligence arm, sources say, re-drew an earlier FISA court request around possible financial and banking offenses related to the server.”
