    The "better trade deals" Trump talks about, and which he even claimed could pay off the national debt in eight years, are euphemisms for higher tariffs. These would raise the prices of consumer goods and provoke retaliation from our trading partners. They would raise tariffs on American goods, making it more difficult for American companies to sell their produce to other countries.

    Trump discussed real problems during his presidential campaign. He has no solutions. His tax "reform" plans simply consist of making the rich richer. In a stagnant economy that can only be achieved by making the rest of us poorer.

    People over 65 are a Republican constituency. If Social Security and Medicare are cut to pay for Trump's tax cuts for the rich, that will change.

      First, Social Security and Medicare are not comparable to Welfare.
      Benefits paid under SS and Medicare are based on how much an individual paid into the system while they worked. Neither employers or employees had an option to not pay.
      It is a sort of contract between employees, employers, and the government.
      SS and Medicare are not handouts. As for Medicare, people don't get a choice; when one turns 65 one must enroll and use Medicare.

      Welfare is paid based on need, not on how much an individual has contributed. And it is optional; the Government doesn't force one to take welfare.

      The idea that people on SS and Medicare want to lecture "us" about welfare is pretty moronic.
      What does collecting SS and Medicare have to do with welfare?
