I couldn't find any other threads related to general news stories and this is more disturbing than scary but is becoming all to common and needs to be reigned in . People here tend to smear each other as well and it is disheartening but a fact of life on the internet I suspect . It turns out that this couple was seeking attention during their attempt to defame the photographer .

Texas Jury Awards $1M to Wedding Photographer Over Couple’s ‘Smear Campaign’

A Texas jury has awarded a $1.08 million judgment to a wedding photographer who claimed that a couple publicly shamed her on social media and destroyed her business.

The jury found Friday that Neely and Andrew Moldovan knowingly published false information about photographer Andrea Polito, and that the posts amounted to defamation, according to court documents.

The couple claimed that Polito withheld their wedding photos. The jury found that the couple's alleged actions resulted in Polito's loss of business and damage to her reputation. It found the Moldovans liable for defamation, disparagement and civil conspiracy, and also awarded punitive damages, NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported.

Polito in the lawsuit, filed in 2015, accused the couple of engaging in a "smear campaign" against her and that at one point they bragged they were "pretty sure her business is done."

Polito's lawyer, Dave Wishnew, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth after the verdict that "Texas has one of the strongest laws in the nation to protect individuals who air legitimate grievances and opinions. But those protections don't extend to a concerted campaign designed to defame and destroy someone's hard-earned business."

The Moldovans' attorney, T. Chase Garrett, did not immediately respond to an email from NBC News requesting an interview Wednesday.

Polito in the lawsuit accused the couple of engaging in a "smear campaign" against her. The jury found the couple acted with malice, according to court documents.

The Moldovans hired Andrea Polito Photography, Inc. in 2014 for their then upcoming wedding, according to court documents. But in 2015, the couple said Polito required a $125 fee for them to receive their wedding album. They claimed that this extra cost was not included in their contract and they had already spent thousands of dollars for the pictures.

In a 2015 interview with NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, the couple told the station that Polito’s office manager informed them their album would be forfeited unless they paid the charge.

At the time of the interview, Polito did not want to go on camera but sent the station an email that said the extra cost was for the cover and it was clearly included as an additional charge to the wedding package.

After the interview aired, Polito was criticized on social media. The Moldovans said in 2015 that some of the social media comments were from fake profiles, according to the station.

But the couple did admit to posting messages on Instagram before and after the interview that said, "Excited to be on NBC" and "justice is served," according to the station.

Andrew Moldovan said in 2015 that they just wanted their album and “neither of us ever hoped her business is ruined, nor do we even want that," NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported.

Wishnew told the station that "Ms. Polito hopes this verdict will reinforce her attempts to repair her reputation, while also sending a message that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences."

Polito said in an interview with The Washington Post published Tuesday that the Moldovans’ complaints caused her to empty her savings and retirement accounts and stop shooting events.

"For two and a half years I walked around my daughter’s school feeling ashamed and embarrassed," she said. "They know I’ve won now."

Charlottesville: Virginia governor tells white supremacists: 'Go home'

The governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, has said that his only message for the white supremacists who brought chaos to the city of Charlottesville is "Go home".

A woman died and 19 people were injured when a car rammed a crowd of people opposing a far-right rally there.

Earlier, street brawls erupted between white nationalists and counter-protesters.

The mayor of Charlottesville said he was "heartbroken" at the death.

Twenty-year-old James Fields from Ohio, the alleged driver of the car, is in detention on suspicion of second-degree murder,

In addition to those injured in the car incident, the Charlottesville Police Department said 15 were wounded in other violence related to the far-right march.

Late in the afternoon, a Virginia State Police helicopter crashed in woodland south-west of the city, killing two people. There has been no sign that this was linked to the violence, however.

People were thrown into the air by the force of the collision

The "Unite the Right" march was called to protest against plans to remove a statue of General Robert E Lee, who had fought for the pro-slavery Confederacy during the US Civil War.

'You are anything but a patriot'
Mr McAuliffe told a press conference: "I have a message for all the white supremacists, and the Nazis who came into Charlottesville today. Our message is plain and simple: Go home. You are not wanted in this great commonwealth. Shame on you. You pretend that you're patriots, but you are anything but a patriot.

"You came here today to hurt people. And you did hurt people. But my message is clear: We are stronger than you."

The governor, who is a Democrat, said he had spoken to President Trump, and twice urged him to begin a movement to bring people together.

He thanked the police and law enforcement officials, who he said had prevented "a much worse day", and praised the emergency services who helped the wounded.

The violence in Charlottesville - a liberal college town - is a stark demonstration of the growing political divide in the US, which has intensified since President Trump's election last year.

Right-wing blogger Jason Kessler had called for a "pro-white" rally, and white nationalists promoted the gathering widely.

Oren Segal, director of the Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism, said several "white power" groups were present - including neo-Nazis and factions of the Ku Klux Klan.

The New York Times reports that some were chanting "You will not replace us," and "Jew will not replace us."

Anti-racism organisations such as Black Lives Matter held protests at the scene.

On Friday, the white nationalists held lit torches and chanted "White lives matter" as they marched through the University of Virginia in the city.

President Donald Trump condemned "in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides".

"The hate and the division must stop right now," he told reporters, speaking in New Jersey, where he is on a working holiday. "We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation."

    'Call evil by its name'
Democrats and Republicans alike took issue with his choice of words, noting that he failed to refer to the central role of white nationalists.

Republican Senator Cory Gardner tweeted: "Mr. President - we must call evil by its name. These were white supremacists and this was domestic terrorism."

Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, also a Republican, felt similarly.

"What we've seen today in Charlottesville needs to be condemned and called what it is: hatred, evil, racism & homegrown extremism," tweeted Democrat John Kerry, who served as US Secretary of State under Barack Obama.

One picture tweeted by author J K Rowling showed a man on the street carrying a swastika flag.

Speaking in Charlottesville, the city's Mayor Michael Signer said the city would fight back. "We've overcome McCarthyism, we've overcome segregation - and we're gonna overcome this."

He said those who brought burning torches to Virginia's lawns "belong in the trash heap of history".

WTF does it say here when another school shooting in the USA doesn't even register in any threads here ???????????????????????????

Shooting in Washington State see's one dead and 3 in hospital. The shooter is in custody and will be arraigned on the 26th.

The little RK wannabe claims that he did it due to "bullying" and the weapons came from the parents gun cabinet in their home and not to make light of a tragic situation but they need to buy better guns but luckily for the victims they were shit firearms as the rifle jammed as the shooter opened fire and he pulled a sidearm as one student rushed him. The victim was shot twice including in the face and died quickly. The pistol was also said to have jammed afterward ...

    My condolences to the victims.
