  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

I can't help but wonder...was this REALLY about radiation? Or a long, subtle "anti-smoking" public service announcement (considering the ending)?

It's less than 2.5 million miles away now. It will be there in just over 3 days. I'm so excited!

After a 3 billion mile journey which has taken 9 1/2 years it will take less than 3 minutes to fly past Pluto, but we'll have some truly amazing photos and a great deal of other data about this former planet.

It's no different than when you were a kid and going to the beach or the amusement park. It took forever to get there, was over in a flash, and the ride home was like "Home already?" , although I don't that little buggy will be heading back home. I don't recall if there was anything planned after Jupiter.

After it passes Pluto it will continue flying through the Kuiper belt. Pluto is part of the Kuiper belt. It should have enough electrical output from the plutonium onboard to continue keep sending data back to earth until 2025 or maybe 2030. That's assuming it doesn't run into any Kuiper belt objects.

It's less than 2 million miles from Pluto now.

This Still REALLY sticks in my Craw about Pluto; they Reclassified it mainly because it HAS'NT cleared it's Orbit of Other Bodies save those in orbit around it. Well, since it crosses Neptune's Orbit, and Neptune hasn't cleared IT'S orbit of Pluto, then by the same requirements, NEPTUNE SHOULD ALSO BE A PROTO PLANET.

    Neptune has.

Pluto has an eccentric orbit which results in it being closer than Neptune to the sun at times. However, the orbital inclination of Pluto means that Neptune's orbit never crosses that of Pluto's. In fact Pluto never gets within 8AU (8x the distance of Earth to the sun) of Neptune's orbit, let alone Neptune itself.

Pluto was demoted from planet status because it exists in a region known and the Kuiper belt, which consists of many "planets" of Pluto's size, as well as lots of much smaller objects. Eris, discovered in 2005, is actually larger than Pluto. Pluto's mass is only 0.07 times that of the mass of the other objects in its orbit. For comparison Earth's mass, is 1.7 million times the remaining mass in its own orbit.

ok, still don't get it though. I mean look at you're pic there. TRANS-Neptunian Objects. Last time I checked Trans means Cross. i.e. Trans Continental, Trans Atlantic, Trans Pacific, Trans Asiatic......

Sorry, no matter what the "Authorities" say, to me Pluto is the Last Planet in our Star System (so far) and Always WILL be. now watch, sometime in the Future they'll rethink it and Poof they'll call Pluto a planet again.

I mean Similar "Authorities" Have been Teaching in schools total claptrap when they say "Columbus Discovered America" which was blatantly FALSE from the start, BECAUSE THE MONGOLIAN DECENDENTS (Native Americans) WERE ALREADY HERE AND HAD BEEN FOR AT LEAST TEN MILLENIA.

Less than a million miles to go. Only 30 more hours left in a 9 1/2 year journey. Of course, it will take another 17 months to send back all of the data it collects, but we'll get some cool pictures rather quickly. I'm crossing my fingers, hoping it doesn't run into a stray rock and get smashed to pieces first.

Their paths never cross. Pluto's orbit is at a 17 degree angle to the other planets. At that moment when its orbit is at the same distance from the sun as Neptune's orbit, it is not on the same plane as Neptune's orbit.

Ceres used to be a planet too, long before Pluto was discovered. Ceres was reclassified as an asteroid, it's in the Asteroid belt. It's the same story for Pluto, we discovered a belt of icy objects in Pluto's orbit, so Pluto was reclassified as well. Today Ceres and Pluto are both Dwarf Planets.

How come you don't get equally riled up about Ceres and insist that there should be ten? Or even thirteen?

When Pluto was discovered, they were actively looking for a gas giant and believed they had found it. Naturally they called it a planet. Over the course of sixty years, we finally figured out that it's not merely "not a giant," it's not even planet size. It's tiny. If, in 1930, they had discovered a body called Pluto and known it was only this large, it would never have been described as a planet to begin with.

And from the large scale to the extremely small .... scientists at the Large Hadron Collider believe (I have not seen full details of how confident they either actually are, or deserve to be) that they have confirmation of a long-predicted particle known as a Pentaquark:

For point of reference. Pluto would fit comfortably between Perth and Melbourne.

    9-sigma.
    http://arxiv.org/abs/1507.03414

Anything over 4-sigma is for all sense and purposes 100% confidence that the result is real. 9-sigma means it exists. Whether or not the theoretical understanding is 100% correct isn't so nearly clear cut.

For comparison, the Higgs was declared as a discovery at 5-sigma. Though at 3, they were pretty confident.

As someone that keeps up to date with QCD, I would say these are exciting times.

On a porn site, that is a bit of an overstatement.
