I paid a few backs extra in the 80s for HBO ( it was cheaper than going out when I was starting in college). I remember it ending with the Star Spangled Banner followed by an animated couple kissing "night, night". After it went 24 hour, it wasn't the same. Not anything new, and mostly repeats.

One of my old cap pistols had shells that you loaded like the real deal SSA revolver. The shell came of the bullet, you dropped a circular "cap" into the shell, replaced the bullet, opened the loading gate and stuck it in the cylinder. The hammer dropping caused the "bullet" to impact the "cap" and it went bang. But we cheated...cut off pieces of the cap rolls...more readily available back then...and we loaded six rounds...not 5! LOL.
Anyone familiar with the real deal SAA will catch the joke....

 

And yes being politically correct, I quit collecting such an affront to liberals...and I now collect the read deals of all kinds.....besides things that take cap rolls, my other collection takes about 65 or more different types of things that go bang.....LOL.

Essentially toy guns with tiny firecrackers to make them go bang.

The one in the picture had a paper strip with little dots of explosives that went off when the gun's hammer hit them. Every time you pulled the trigger, the gun spooled the paper off the roll to the next dot, and the spent paper came out the top like a receipt printer.

The ring kind was little plastic cups filled with explosives held together in a circle by a plastic ring. The guns basically worked like a real revolver, rotating the cylinder to the next cup, which is why I liked them better. The cups were seated over fixed firing pins in the cylinder, and the hammer pushed the cup down on it, setting off the explosive.

 

I'm am...was a big gun collector...now thinning out the herd, down to only about 200 guns now. One evening for my birthday at their house, my sister gave me a present of a SAA Colt...I thought...until I had it in hand. It was one of my old "cap" pistol she had found in a box. This wasn't the red tape roll type but had six bullets that loaded like the real deal. And it was as big as the real deal and almost as heavy! It gave young fingers a sore work out when trying to twirl the cap gun!
The "bullet" part came out of the shell nd you loaded a circular spot into the bottom of the shell then loaded the bullet into the cylinder like the real deal...but we did six loads, not 5 like in the real deal...LOL. When the hammer was released, it made the shell to pop like the red tape versions. You got six shots then you had to reload unlike the "never emptying" six shooter on the old westerns of yore...LOL.

 

Remember the wax candy...lips, mustaches, whistles....?

 

I remember looking for depositable bottles in the ditches and construction sites to get money for BBs for the BB gun (okra seeds out of the garden just wasn't cutting it...LOL), buy Bazooka bubble gum for the gum and cartoon, Coolaide packets to lick your finger, stick it in the bag for the sweet contents, , or jaw breakers of different flavors (I still buy the hot cinnamon Atomic Bombs from Amazon), or the candy discs..especially the licorice flavored ones....OK...the rose colored glasses are off....

I never got an Easy Bake Oven when I was little, even though I wanted one desperately. My BFF got me one for my 29th birthday.

 

I wanted on too, and never got one, so I bought one for my daughter and we baked in it together. lol

 

It's crazy how expensive the mixes are now!

 

Can't just take any sort of mix? Or is it some special formula? I wouldn't be surprised if someone has come out with an "easy bake" recipe book.

Interesting bit of useless info... any cell phone... no matter how old... If u can get it charged and dial 911.. it will be answered by emergency services... so those old bag phones can still be used.

I bought crazy straws for my students as an end the year gift. I made cards to go along with them that said "I'll miss you like crazy!" and hole punched them, then slid them onto the straws.
