I am surprised that anyone who favors Trump's Tax Cuts for the Rich Plan has the nerve to complain about increases in the national debt under Obama.

I will acknowledge that Obama's major mistake was in not hitting the rich hard with tax increases soon after he was inaugurated. Back then Obama's approval rating was 67%.

    http://news.gallup.com/poll/116479/barack-obama-presidential-job-approval.aspx

For years public opinion polls have indicated popular support for a more progressive tax system.

The New York Post, by Reuters, October 11, 2017 |

WASHINGTON – As President Donald Trump promotes a tax plan that critics say would raise the federal deficit by slashing corporate rates andeliminating some taxes paid by the rich, some three-quarters of Americans believe the wealthiest should pay more, Reuters/Ipsos polling shows.

Now see, that thinking is how the government convinces people that there are no jobs, no hope, and their only salvation is government handouts.
Unemployment was designed to be a short term assist while people found new jobs.
Not a subsistence living while they went to school.
Or gave up looking for a job.

In October, 2009, when the unemployment rate exceeded 10% and was at it's highest, there were 2.5 Million job openings in the United States.
There are always employers hiring. Always. Job turnover in October, 2009 was 3.2%. People quit, they retire, they get fired; there are always job openings. Not 14 Million openings to be sure, but there are always, always, job openings. To simply give up because government will continue to give you a handout is a disservice to oneself, and to one's family.

To be sure, finding a job with the unemployment rate over 10% is more challenging, but it is even more challenging to find a job with the unemployment rate at 5% when one hasn't had any work for over a year.

When one hasn't been employed for two years, it is the kiss of death. Employers avoid hiring the long term unemployed like they avoid hiring visibly pregnant women.

Obama did the unemployed a disservice by extending unemployment out for two years, and he did that because he had no other solution; no jobs programs, no hiring credits; he had nothing. His "shovel ready jobs" turned out to be a lie.

Obama did the business community a disservice by failing to fund the extensions of unemployment. By bankrupting the unemployment system Obama fucked the unemployed and he fucked the employers.

Bullshit. War with Iran? Why? What end would be served? Iran already had the bomb. Obama knew that. What he did was appease Iran with money, the same way past administrations have appeased rogue dictators since the 1950's. North Korea. Vietnam. Iran. Iraq. Pakistan. many more.

We should have learned one thing with WWII. The United States has enemies. People and countries that would destroy us and take what we have. People and countries that have real or imagined issues with the United States. They would, if we allowed it, destroy the United States and enslave us.

One does not negotiate with an enemy until one has a pissed off 19 year old's marine boot firmly planted on their neck.

Obama did what past administrations have done, but he lied to the American people. He said "we cut a deal with Iran, gave them back "their" money, and in return they won't build the bomb. The problem is, he knew they already had the fucking things.

It was a bigger lie than "you can keep your doctor if you want".

Trump's tax cuts are projected to AT MOST increase the deficit by $1.5 TRILLION over 10 years. Obama increased the deficit by an average $1.1TRILLION every year he was in office.

Shooter, given the choice, will take a $1.5 BILLION a year increase in the debt over a $1.1 TRILLION increase every time.

Trump recognizes what economists have been saying for years; US business pays some of the highest taxes in the civilized world. Is it any wonder that they have scurried to other lower tax countries, taking their tax money with them?

Trickle down may be a proven non starter.
Tax and spend is for damn sure a non starter.

And of course; ask the average person on the street; "We need money, do we get it from you, or do we get it from that guy over there getting out of his Lamborghini? Oh, and by the way, we'll give you some of the money we get, no matter who we get it from."

It doesn't mean that is how we should determine our tax policy, our economic policy, or our foreign policy.

First of all, the unemployment rate under Obama never exceeded 10%. Under Reagan it reached 10.8%.

    http://www.multpl.com/unemployment/table?f=m

Now you were in human relations shootersa. I suspect you know that most, probably the vast majority of those 2.5 million job openings required years of specific experience. A high percentage of employers refused to consider applicants who were not already employed doing specifically what they would be doing in the new job.

Employers were looking for "the perfect candidate," who would be able to "hit the ground running." Those were phrases that often appeared in those advertisements.

Then and now if employers would train people with comparable experience and adequate education and give them learning curves they would find plenty of applicants.

    Nope.
    Wrong.
Those job openings were job openings. Like job openings posted every month in the United States. If you have a source that proves your point, lets see it.
And employers most often hire based on networking, not a blind application process.
Every job Shooter has gotten has been through networking.
That isn't a bad thing, by the way.
Recruiters will tell anyone, the fastest way to find a job is to network; reach out to friends, family, coworkers, neighbors and let them know you're looking for a job. It's amazing the opportunities that pop out from that. By the time most jobs are posted it's a formality; the opening has been filled.
networking finds more and better opportunities than going through Job Service, which is part of the unemployment process. (By the way, did you know most states have outsourced their jobs assistance programs?)
In fact, one job Shooter got wasn't even a job until he talked to the CEO; he happened to sit next to him on a flight and we got to talking about business. One thing led to another, and Shooter was invited to take a job that didn't even exist before Shooter met the CEO.
And no, it isn't the employers job to train applicants. It's the applicant's job to come to the opening with their training and education already in place. More liberal "let the other guy take care of me" nonsense.

And finally, the unemployment rate in October, 2009 was 10%. It exceeded 9% from March, 2009 through August, 2011. It didn't drop below 6% until August, 2014.

Having enough war has never really been an option for mankind. There have been people and countries at war since before Cain and Able (I know, it's a biblical story). World peace is an illusion and will most likely never happen.

As the worlds population spirals out of control, natural resources and land will be fought over as it has always been.

The important part of survival is being on the winning side when it comes to war....

I don't believe it. Do the math. Trump is cutting taxes while proposing increases in military spending and infrastructure, and building his wall, which Mexico is not going to pay for.

In his 1980 debate with Jimmy Carter Ronald Reagan said that the "experts" told him that he could cut taxes, raise defense spending and balance the budget by 1983. We know how that turned out.

Republicans like to tell us that economic policies that have the certain effect of benefiting the rich will benefit the rest of the country through economic growth, and more and better plauing jobs. More jobs were created per year under Carter than Reagan. Many more jobs were created per year under Clinton. From 1921 to 2000 the per capita gross domestic product in constant dollars grew over twice as much under Democrat presidents, when the top tax rate was often raised, than under Republican president, when it was often cut.

I could document my assertions, but I have on many occasions. I have long since grown tired of trying to push facts into closed and narrow minds. Republican talking points and cliches ignore the economic history of the United States since at least 1921.

Well, but you keep using the term "The rich".
You need to give us your definition of "the rich".
Or what you think Republicans mean when you say "the rich".

As for the rest, we'll just have to see what Trump's economy and the debt look like in a year or so, won't we?

    War costs money.

During World War II, and again during the Korean War and the War in Vietnam Democrat presidents raised the top tax rate. Reagan and George the Lesser raised military spending while cutting the top tax rate.

    https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-soi/02inpetr.pdf

That is the difference between the real fiscal responsibility Democrats practice, and the faux fiscal responsibility Republicans only talk about.

    1. shootersa
      Now hold on.
If fiscal responsibility includes doubling the debt, adding more debt in 8 years than all presidents before, Shooter will take Republican "faux fiscal responsibility" anytime.
And the other thing is, at least with the Republican fiscal responsibility, we have something to show for it.
You know, like the fall of the Berlin Wall and the fall of the U.S.S.R.

You have contradicted yourself. When you say "Those job openings were job openings" (which I acknowledged by the way) you imply that anyone could apply and get those jobs. Then you said most of them went to people with inside connections.

In other words, anyone couldn't apply and get one of those jobs.

What Shooter said was, even with a 10% rate of unemployment there were 2.5 Million jobs open. Employers post job openings. People apply for them. People get hired to fill those jobs. Even when the unemployment rate is 10%, employers are hiring.
A job seeker is going to find a job faster if they network.

What Shooter said was that every job he ever got, he got through networking.
Shooter did not say "inside connections".
Networking is a far different thing.
"Inside connections" implies special access or special consideration.
Networking can be done by anyone, and it does not include special consideration or special access.
It's simple communication to people who know you that you are available for any job opportunities that might be available.
If one applies for a job "blindly", say through Indeed.com, they become one of perhaps thousands applying for that job. And likely it's one of hundreds they applied for that day, or that week.

A more focused job search is needed when the unemployment rate is 10%; that is what networking does; it greatly expands the sources for job openings, and lets the applicant focus their efforts. It lets them get their application in before the job is announced, before the job screener is inundated with applications.
Networking also includes a profile on LinkedIn (Not fucking Facebook) and any career specific associations, like the Society of Human Resource Managers, or the American Payroll Association, or the American Hospital Association. All have targeting job search sites.

So, yes, anyone CAN apply for one of those 2.5 Million jobs and get it. They just have to do their homework and work harder at finding that job.

Collecting unemployment, probably attending school, and sending applications blindly to companies is not "working harder".

Correction; it is working harder than one needs to if one wants to fail.

I’m sure all of you would gladly live in those countries?

Perhaps living in a secured estate and with armed guards it might be ok.

For that matter most of the EU that’s been flooded with refugees could be classified as a shithole too. I only have to listen to the tourists I talk to from those countries to get a real first hand impression of what it’s like over there.
