I like the part that allows Americans to opt out of it. I also like allowing the States to decide on what Medicaid will cover in each state. People forget that health insurance is not a right in this country. It's a benefit that is available to anyone who wishes to purchase it.

We have insurance through work, we have deductibles for our dental plan, our vision plan and our healthcare plan. You NEVER had a deductible???

Has anyone else here had a affordable insurance policy with NO deductible? Sure you can get plans with no deductible if you pay sky high premiums.

Of course I have Mr. Smith. I have plenty of lifetime experience. I also have first hand experience in using Obamacare.
You are arguing a point you know nothing about.
Depending on the plan, most doctor visits and labs are covered with a co-pay along with a once a year free physical. Typically, your deductible does not apply for preventative health checkups and many routine health services … you’ll just pay a co-pay instead.

You just completly rewrote your last post with the "edit" feature Mr. Smith. I never said there was NO deductible.

Now one thing I want to make clear. I am not an Obamacare supporter. I am an Affordable Healthcare supporter. We need affordable healthcare in this country. I want you to admit it or it is clear you are just using this argument as a prop in your political rants.

Rixer is right and so long as the politicians have their noses in the healthcare profits trough then nothing will change! Here is a comparison for basic healthcare packages comparing the US to the Netherlands. Basically you fuck sick people in the arse in the US by allowing greedy insurance companies to raise premiums to levels ordinary people just cannot afford. Yes affordable care needs to be affordable!

I have no problem with universal healthcare. My concern is who pays for it. Insurance companies aren't going to lower their premiums despite what the POTUS thinks. The only choice would be a tax increase for everyone.

    1. Rixer
My concern is that the cost of healthcare has gone above what the average working person can afford to pay. Something must be done to make it available for the working poor. Those who don't work, get free healthcare. The rich can afford it. It's the average working family that suffers.

Don't make it a political issue. It's something we all need to come together on.

The problem is the out of hand cost of health care. Don't think insurance companies are your friend either. That's why we're asking to come up with affordable healthcare in the first place.

The problem is we let healthcare costs sky rocket because we weren't actually paying the bills, the insurance companies were. They for their part just constantly raised premiums to cover the rising costs. Finally the premiums were getting so high they were forced to react, they began limiting the amounts they would pay for procedures, but it was entirely too late. A one hour operation cost between 7 to 10,000 dollars just for the surgeons fee. How could the average Joe afford 30,000 dollars for a operation? What did heath care professionals charge before we had health insurance? A surgeon probably performs 6 operations a day. Who do you know that makes 10,000 an hour, well besides former politicians? Have you ever wondered why someone would be paid 500,000 dollars for a 1 hour speech? We little people sure are SUCKERS...You know why we're suckers? We defend these freaking crooks! That's right we defend the S.O.B.'s.

Like I said before this is just another way to "defund" medicaid and save over 800 billion over the next decade and put that burden on the States.

    1. shootersa
Well, but where does the responsibility for health care belong?
      The Federal Government?
      The State Governments?
      Employers?
      The individual?

The bottom line is, we pay for what we get; we can rape the "rich" to pay for the poor, we can make it an individual responsibility, or something in between.

Without federal regulations the States will fuck it up, guaranteed ...

But the feds can't have their cake and eat it too, if they want a say to protect the consumer they have to anty up.

But yes the responsibility must be shared.

So I wonder how everyone would feel if we kept the ability for people to select their own plan, what coverage they wanted, but dropped the government tax dollars subsidies and made it voluntary? I would imagine that people would be able to get coverage for less than they could on their own. If they decide they can't afford it they have the option of dropping out.

The problem with the old "Who's gonna pay for it?" question is that we are already paying for it. This isn't Calcutta, where people die in the gutter.(Do they still do it that way, or has India developed a modern healthcare system?).

What we are buying is the most expensive form of healthcare, the too little, too late, school of medicine. Instead of a Doctor checking someone at least once a year, we'll wait until diabetes has destroyed their vascular system and a leg has to be amputated. Guess who pays for that? Then our one legged patient is in a nursing home. Guess who is paying for that? I'm sure you know. There was a time when advanced diabetes was a death sentence. Two or three years at the max.

This "Who's gonna pay for it?" doesn't wash anymore, in an age where once we get a once legged man in a nursing home, he can live for decades on the public dime. Just think of all the toothless meth heads we'll be feeding and housing over the next 30 years.

On the other hand, some lab work and some meds, might have kept this guy wearing out two shoes at a time, instead of the batteries in his wheelchair. That's a taxpayer at work, instead of a tax burden.

Unfortunately, our current crop of conservatives have this weird idea that forcing poor people to suffer will make them hate being poor so much, they'll go find a job and be able to afford to pay for healthcare. In pursuit of this bizarre bit of social engineering, they're willing to make like harder for themselves and everyone else. You can't tell them that. As long as they can't see a poor person consumes tax benefits, but doesn't really get any benefit from it, they're okay with it.

That's the funny part about it. While a conservative puffs up his chest and sneers, "Who's gonna pay for it?" Uncle Sam has a hand in the guy's pocket and smiling all the time.

So, again the point is to blame the "conservatives" who are heartless, greedy bastards.
Who never heard of preventative care.

Again; the real question is "who pays for it?"
Health care is all but prohibitively expensive. There are a lot of reasons for this, and indeed, the costs, in the end, have to be controlled without sacrificing quality of care.
But in the end, the question is; "so who will pay for it?"

The liberal view seems to be; gouge the rich for it; they can afford it, we can't.
The conservative view seems to be; let the marketplace and the individual decide.

But really; who should be paying for healthcare?

Healthcare is not "prohibitively expensive". Other first world countries have managed to do it. As I said above, we're already paying for very expensive, but ineffective healthcare for everyone. I'm sure conservatives have heard of preventive care. It's just that it would improve the lives of poor people, and we simply can't have that. Making life easier for the poor would give them no incentive to become billionaires and oppose estate taxes.

I wouldn't call conservatives "heartless, greedy bastards". I'm sure they have the compassion of Christ in their hearts, when they say the problems of the poor and disabled are not their problems. After all, why should they pay for something that benefits them by raising the general quality of life for everyone? When Jesus said, "As you have done to the least of those among you, so have you done to me," It was Saint Conservatus who said, "Yeah, but whose going to pay for it?"

Keeping obamacare for a while longer could be quite good, politically. After watching it continue in its death spiral, it will be easier to get something that works passed.

Why is it okay for the government to spend trillions of your tax dollars on defending you and killing others....... But you scream blue murder and socialism when they want to help you with your health?.

If it's up to the individual to keep themselves healthy then isn't it also up to the individual to keep themselves safe?.

Just because someone has health insurance doesn't mean their going to go to the doctor. You wouldn't believe what I go through getting some members to follow up with the physicians. They'd rather wait until they're in the ER for the tenth time this year.

This might be the least intelligent post (aside from some of General Quixote's) Shooter has seen.
First, the number one responsibility of Government is to protect the security of the United States. To fail at this makes everything else pretty much meaningless.
Second, there is no requirement for government to provide health care. Anymore than there is a requirement for government to provide housing.

Lets face it, half of us are SUCKERS. Most of us have been complaining about how crooked politicians are. How they always claim to be looking out for the average Joe and Jill, but actually only look out for themselves by taking care of their big campaign contributors. They all get rich off your back and you bitch and moan about them. We finally get a non politician, one that didn't take huge contributions from mega corporations, lawyers, doctors, etc and that really frightened all those mega rich fat cats. So they are doing their best to get rid of this guy, and at least half of us remain SUCKERS and help these mega rich fuckers out! It's unbelievable I tell you. Ol' PT Barnum sure knew what he was talking about... one born every minute. Pretty damn sad...
