It is rare for CBP to separate family units at ports of entry. If there is a separation, it is a result of exigent circumstances to ensure the well being of the child.

CBP is not denying or discouraging travelers from seeking asylum or any other form of protection, or from claiming fear of return to their home country. When our ports of entry reach capacity, CBP officers’ ability to manage all of their missions — counter-narcotics, national security, facilitation of lawful trade — is challenged by the time and the space to process people that are arriving without documents, from time to time we have to manage the queues and address that processing based on that capacity.​

Wow, you've been here three years with only 190 posts and this is where you want to jump in. And you sure picked a stupid way to do it. The fact is there are all kinds of people willing to feed and house them. Many of them already have families here and there are sponsors. There are lots of people willing to take them and their children in while they comply with OUR LAWS to legally seek asylum. But because of the reasons posted above WE ,us taxpayers, are paying to feed and house them for about $1,000 per day/per person.

And no they are not going to quit trying to come here. And neither would you if you were in their place. You like your job. They like life for them and their kids. And as long as conditions are so bad those lives are in constant danger they are going to try and get out of there. And we can't really blame them for that because we would do the same thing. I know I would have guts enough to do that for my kids. I would get the hell out of there and at least try for a better life.

So the only real solution is to help those countries become a better place to live. You know what they call foreign aid and corporate investment. And there are actually plans to do that to help solve the problem. But people don't hear about. All they hear is about an imaginary wall. That won't solve anything.
