  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

What do you take for a cold or flu? Every fall I get the flu vaccine. If I get sick I take zinc lozenges, vitamin C supplements, and Chinese herbal medicine.

For a few years I took Echinacea instead of Chinese herbal medicine. Then I read that scientific studies indicated that it had no effect on a cold. Scientific studies do recommend zinc lozenges. Scientific studies for vitamin C gave yielded mixed results. I am unaware of any scientific studies of Chinese herbal medicine. However, I respect Chinese culture.

Years ago I took the folk remedy of brandy. Since then I have learned that alcohol weakens my immune system. If I have any alcohol, my cold or flu is worse the next day.

Colds cannot be 'cured' - they are just something you have to wait out, sadly.

The *very few* times I've had the flu, however, I found that going to bed, under about three thick duvets, with copious amounts of liquid *water, juice, etc* to drink normally worked better than any meds!!

1.) One gallon orange juice or grapefruit juice or pineapple juice (or any combination thereof).

2.) One quart (or fifth, if that's all you have) vodka or rum. Or both, if you're feeling brave.

    3.) One bucket ice.

    4.) One large glass.

5.) As many blankets as you can stand.

Combine the ingredients in 1 and 2 above, and mix well. Put container in bucket of ice. Fill one large glass from container and add ice. Wrap up in as many blankets as you can stand and lie on the bed/sofa/floor/wherever and drink copious amounts. Do not remove the blankets no matter how much you sweat, until the container is empty, except to go to the bathroom.

This won't cure the cold or flu, but after the first two or three large glasses, you won't care. Repeat treatment as necessary.

I always use a fifth of Jack Daniels(green label works best), drink about 4 shots worth out of it so you have room for the other ingredients, add some ginsing root (it has to be an actual ginsing root) some honey, or molasses whichever you prefer (for the syrupyness to coat your throat and mouth.) Let it set during the summer then when you feel fluish or like you are getting sick, drink about 4 ounces about 2 hours before bed. Repeat if necesary.

Note: Some people may add other ingredients along with the ones I said.

Nn nn. You don't really want to bother with taking Vitamin C pills or supplements. I've seen some studies done which suggest that ingesting it that way causes it not to work as efficiently. If you want V.C, you really should consume it naturally.

Actually that's not true. My grandmother had a sure fire cure for a cold.

    1) Take a shot of whisky while facing the North Star and standing on your left foot.

    2) Drink lots and lots of liquids.

    3) Get lots and lots of rest and sleep.

After 5 to 10 days of this you will be cured. It works every time......guaranteed!

Most people who say they have 'flu have really just got a cold, as there is now cure for a cold or 'flu the best you can do is treat the symptoms.

Paracetamol to control the temperature .

    Fluids.

    Rest.

Honey for the cough, that generally comes with it, to soothe the throat, no cough treatment has a therapeutic effect accept to soothe the throat which homey does just as well.

Blankets/duvets to encourage the body to sweat.

    And time.

you can't cure a cold but you can help your body fight it faster by drinking lots and lots of orange juice. It both keeps you hydrated and provides you with a great source of Vitamin C which is good for your immune system.

    trust me

Which is basically what I recommend, with the addition of some rum or vodka to ease the misery. And for some reason sweating it out works for me, I'm usually back on my feet in 10-12 hours. Not cured, but feeling a helluva lot better - from there it's all downhill.

Citrus drinks interfere with the work of zinc lozenges, so one should not drink orange juice within one hour of taking a zinc lozenge.

9 Tips to Treat Colds and Flu the 'Natural' Way

With no cure in sight for the cold or the flu, current treatments can at best bring symptom relief or shorten the duration of those symptoms. You can take one of a variety of medications that may help relieve your symptoms. Or you can take the natural approach. WebMD went to Charles B. Inlander, president of The People's Medical Society, for some home remedies that may help you feel better along the way.

No. 1: Blow Your Nose Often -- and the Right Way
It's important to blow your nose regularly when you have a cold rather than sniffling mucus back into your head. But when you blow hard, pressure can cause an earache. The best way to blow your nose: Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently to clear the other. Wash your hands after blowing your nose.

    No. 2: Stay Rested
Resting when you first come down with a cold or the flu helps your body direct its energy toward the immune battle. This battle taxes the body. So give it a little help by lying down under a blanket.

    No. 3: Gargle
Gargling can moisten a sore throat and bring temporary relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily. To reduce the tickle in your throat, try an astringent gargle -- such as tea that contains tannin -- to tighten the membranes. Or use a thick, viscous gargle made with honey, popular in folk medicine. Steep one tablespoon of raspberry leaves or lemon juice in two cups of hot water; mix with one teaspoon of honey. Let the mixture cool to room temperature before gargling. Honey should never be given to children less than 1 year old.

    No. 4: Drink Hot Liquids
Hot liquids relieve nasal congestion, help prevent dehydration, and can soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat.

No. 5: Take a Steamy Shower
Steamy showers moisturize your nasal passages and relax you. If you're dizzy from the flu, run a steamy shower while you sit on a chair nearby and take a sponge bath.

No. 6: Use a Salve Under Your Nose
A small dab of mentholated salve under your nose can open breathing passages and help soothe the irritated skin at the base of the nose. Menthol, eucalyptus and camphor all have mild numbing ingredients that may help relieve the pain of a nose rubbed raw.

No. 7: Apply Hot or Cold Packs Around Your Congested Sinuses
Either temperature may help you feel more comfortable. You can buy reusable hot or cold packs at a drugstore. Or make your own. Take a damp washcloth and heat it for 55 seconds in a microwave (test the temperature first to make sure it's right for you.) Or take a small bag of frozen peas to use as a cold pack.

No. 8: Sleep With an Extra Pillow Under Your Head
This will help with the drainage of nasal passages. If the angle is too awkward, try placing the pillows between the mattress and the box springs to create a more gradual slope.

No. 9: Don't Fly Unless Necessary
There's no point adding stress to your already stressed-out upper respiratory system, and that's what the change in air pressure will do. Flying with cold or flu congestion can hurt your eardrums as a result of pressure changes during takeoff and landing. If you must fly, use a decongestant and carry a nasal spray with you to use just before takeoff and landing. Chewing gum and swallowing frequently can also help relieve pressure.

I've had the flu for a week now. :(

    What I've been doing is
    - Drinking an absolute fuck load of water
    - Jasmine tea with about two tablespoons of honey in it.
    - Eucalyptus and honey lollies to suck on.
    - Nasal Spray.
    - Sleep. Lots and lots of sleep.
    - Fresh fruit and vegetables. Oranges, frozen raspberries, tinned peaches..
    - NO DAIRY!
    - Blankets. Millions of blankets.
    - A shower as hot as you can stand.
    - Bowl of recently boiled water with eucalyptus oil in it and a towel over your face to steam all the crap out of you. Or try to.
    - Vicks chest rub.
    - Antibiotics if you're on them.
    - One ibuprofen for sore throat/sore head and one paracetamol for temperature.

    Get well soon! :)

Not sure about flu, but I know for damned sure that if you take 3000mg C daily and also 3 echinacea it is impossible to get a cold. Proof: A kid with a cold coughed into my open mouth and i got nothing. Also many of the kids I taught for 20yrs on one to one had colds and I never got one from them.
