As a white man myself in my early 40's, i have never once felt that i was more privileged than anyone else. So where does this come from? Perhaps from the rich and powerful? I suppose that could be one reason. Still not all people that are rich and powerful are white. Is this only an issue with african americans and latinos? I never hear Chinese people talk about it. Does it stem from the civil rights movement? I'm just having a hard time figuring it out (all jokes aside). Am i suppose to bow down to someone because im white and not take pride in my history? Last time i checked there wasnt a designated month for me to celebrate my heritage. What's the privilege of being white if everytime you stand up for something someone calls you a racist or cracker or honky?

 

The concept of "white privilege" is the latest way of belittling and berating people simply for the color of the skin they were born with. It's something the Democrats have been doing in one form or another for the past two centuries.

When it falls out of fashion you can be guaranteed that the Democrats will find some other excuse to hate various segments of our society based upon skin color.

 

I get that part of it i guess but its almost like the blm movement maybe my white privilege has made me blind to it but i in know way see how black people are being oppressed. I do see though if a person don't wanna get off their ass and make something of themselves how easily it is to blame a rich white guy. But lets be realistic here...you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. I just think more people need to take more responsibility than they do. I am in some small part American indian and was raised by grandparents and uncles who were much more indian than I am.To say that the indians didn't do anything with the riches of america is hogwash. They did not overpopulate the hell out of small areas, they lived in small groups that moved about from time to time so as to allow the area to recover. Granted they did depopulate an area of game and use up the soil, then move on, but they did not totally ruin an area. They planned where they were going to move to and sent in a few people to ring the trees so that the trees would die and be easier to take down. They had extensive trading routes among the many tribes and associations. Stones that were good for tool making were scarce in many areas, yet those stones are found everywhere due in part to this trade, as well as other goods.

Don't get me wrong this myth of living in harmony with Nature is a farce. Have you ever tried to cut down a large tree with stone tools, I have and it's damned near impossible. That is why they ringed the trees, then assigned young teens to tend a fire at the base so as to bring down the tree without burning down the whole forest. They lived the way they did, because it suited their needs, however, as soon as they got iron and steel tools from the Europeans they began to treat the land as badly as the Europeans would later. By the way, indians learned to scalp people from the French, who used the scalps to claim bounty from the government.

I went off on the injuns just now, because another poster rightfully ripped into Sub-Saharan Africa.

Some on this forum, like Distant Lover (whom I have on ignore), would maintain that the savages of Africa are savages because they are genetically and cognitively deficient.

He and other racists are rightfully ripped for that mindset.

But If they are no less deficient than the rest of us, whence their savagery? Why have they been subjugated throughout their unwritten history, if not for cognitive deficiency?
