Just looking at the last 4 attempts the democrats have made to win an election maybe running another socialist would improve their chances.
Running a democrat for anything has been a loser for them.
Guess they are spring loaded to the loser position.
Democrats might try kissing Bernie's ass a little more and kicking Hillary's ass more often.

 

Speaking of Capitalism (Or is that considered "Hate Speech"? Microaggression? Trigger? Roy? Zigfried? Woops...), how long could we expect it to last if this catches on. Which socialist societies are you thinking about? Communism simply demonstrates that a dictatorship is an inappropriate government for a socialist economy. This is most obviously true of North Korea, where a dictator and his cronies live like millionaires in a country where most adults show permanent evidence of malnutrition.

Nevertheless, Communism has had achievements. The Soviet government carried Russia from semi feudalism to the space age while doing most of the fighting to help defeat our common enemies during the Second World War. The Communist government in China suppressed the war lords, prevented China from being an easy target for any aggressive country, and prepared China to achieve world hegemony. Cuba has the most effective health system in Latin America.

All of this is moot, because today's socialist millennials do not uphold the Communist governments in Russia, China, and Cuba as ideals (although during the War in Vietnam some new left radicals did idealize the Communist governments in China and Cuba).

The ideal of today's socialist millennials is not Communism, but Social Democracy.

(CNN) — Norwegians have more reason than ever to celebrate the International Day of Happiness. After ranking fourth for the last two years, Norway jumped three spots and displaced three-time winner Denmark to take the title of "world's happiest country" for the first time...

Denmark dropped to second place this year, followed by Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand and Australia and Sweden (which tied for ninth place), according to the latest World Happiness Report, released Monday by the Sustainable Development Solutions Networkfor the United Nations.

Denmark has won the title three of the four times the report has been issued, while Switzerland has won the title just once...

Happiness isn't just about money, although it's part of it. Real gross domestic product per capita is one of the key measurements, said the report. Others include generosity, a healthy life expectancy, having someone to count on, perceived freedom to make life choices and freedom from corruption, the report's authors argued.

 

As I demonstrate in the first article I excerpted, the millenial generation came of age during the twenty-first century. During this time they have experienced two Republican recessions. The second of these was the most serious since the 1930's, and even more serious than the Reagan recession.

Those who went to college frequently have unpayable student loans and low paying jobs. Those who did not go to college frequently have lower paying jobs. For them socialism means not capitalism. Capitalism means an economy that has not worked for them.

To an extent the U.S. economy never really recovered from the recession of 1974 (which again occurred during a Republican administration).

 

Millenials have never had to really struggle to survive. They've pretty much had it all handed to them one way or the other.
No prior generation has dared to "demand" as a right a college education, or that health care is a fundamental right owed them by Government.

 

They have had everything handed to them all of their life.
They have never learned how to work for something.
Someday they may wake up. That is if they ever get a job.
We may have a whole generation of free loaders.
Add them to the free loaders we already have and it is going to get rough.

 

One of the reasons Americans can't have nice things is because of the strange notion that Socialism and Capitalism are mutually exclusive.

 

I have never made that claim. I see aspects of capitalism and socialism in every modern economy. The difference between capitalism and socialism is more or less, rather than either/or.

The way I see things is that from the administrations of Presidents Roosevelt to Johnson there was a move in a socialist direction. The results included broadly based economic growth and mild recessions. During the Reagan administration there was a move in a capitalist direction. The result has been stagnant standards of living for most Americans, as well as longer and deeper recessions.
