There should never be any taboos against telling the truth. Political policies based on assumptions that are not true lead to bad results.

Since the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court Decision of 1954 government policy on race has assumed that the races are intrinsically equal. What do we have to show for this assumption?

The rather small minority of blacks who for genetic reasons can behave and perform as well as most whites have entered white society. Good for them.

This benefit needs to be weighed against all the negative stuff, the rise in crime and illegitimacy, white flight from downtown areas of cities, lack of confidence in the public school system, and the government in general, and so on.

I am a Democrat. I always vote Democrat. The Democrat Party lost its dominance in the United States because of its support for the civil rights movement. That bothers me. The civil rights movement seemed like a good idea at the time. Things have not worked out as planned though. During the two generations that have passed since the civil rights legislation was passed blacks have substantiated arguments that segregationists presented against the legislation when it was debated in Congress.

Southern whites have the right to say, "We told you so."

It hurts me to need to admit it. I spent my childhood and teenage years on the other side of this argument.

 

When the insults begin that is a sign that the target/s of the insults has/have won the argument.

Well, but you still haven't been able to convince Shooter that race is a biological distinction with humans. Shooter is convinced that it can only be a social distinction.
And we haven't even gotten around to defining intelligence and how to measure it. That's a whole different conversation.
As to the difference in intelligence between men and women, well, Shooter doesn't buy that either.

It's ironic that you insist Shooter is being arbitrary and therefore emotional. Shooter has cited, logically, why he does not think genes play a role in intelligence. He has cited the scientific basis why there can't be a difference in intelligence between races, mainly because we can't scientifically define what we mean by different human races.
What you, and dog and MSNMAN have done is give back anecdotal reasons for your beliefs, cited examples that actually support Shooters position, and personally attacked Shooter.
But Shooter is the emotional one?

Look, Shooter is just going to cut to the chase.
If Shooter was President he would do away with EEOC and most of the "special rights" programs that blossomed in the 60's.
He would force all school districts to fund their schools equally, and have some basis for uniform academic programs for all students. Not special programs; the same programs and opportunities for every student in the district.
He would not do away with forced busing. He would do away with quotas; students could go to any school they wanted to.
The point is, special groups that end up with special rights are almost always a recipe for disaster. The constitution says "all men are created equal" and it's time we started living that truth.

Shooter very much believes that most who fail do so because they don't believe they can do better, or deserve better. They limit themselves, most of the time because the only message they hear is that they didn't deserve it, or weren't good enough to have it.

By removing roadblocks and sending the message "you can be or do anything if you want to badly enough" he believes that what the government programs of the 60's were supposed to achieve (but failed so miserably at) can be achieved.

It's simplistic, Shooter knows, but the bottom line is, quit telling people they can't, then get the hell out of their way.

I do believe all men are created equal. That does not mean they remain equal all of their life. It is up to them to rise above or sink below the way they were created.
I think if all it takes for a person to be a failure is that someone called them a failure is just looking for an excuse.

 

Actually it was the Declaration of Independence that posited that all men are created equal . I don't think those words are found in the constitution.

It doesn't matter anyway because Thomas Jefferson Penned these words in 1776 while being an active slaveowner . Blacks were not given the right to vote until around the time of the Civil War and women were not given the right to vote until around 1920. So to say that all men are created equal is more of a slogan that the truth .

As far as science goes it is very difficult to establish absolute scientific truth and generally science is used as a predictive tool and that's where its value lies .

The American psychiatric Association held that homosexuality was a mental illness as recently as 1972 . Based on scientific evidence at the time . Doctors used to recommend smoking based on so-called scientific evidence . Science once claimed that heavier things fall faster to the earth than lighter things.

The ptolomeic cosmological system existed virtually unchallenged for 2500 years before the Copernican system finally replaced it.

My point in all of this is that we can all trot out our scientific facts but science will always be more informed by financial interests . Follow the money as they say.

I simply follow the William James notion of commonsense.

There are a lot of people who are too invested in we are all one big happy human family and outside of superficial differences we're all the same in the aggregate to even consider other possibilities and that is all I have really tried to do in this post .

Thomas Jefferson probably did think all men were created equal. He knew a woman was not a man and didn't think a black was even a person.
He was right when he said it. Later times changed things quite a bit.
Scientist are proving different things all of the time. Mostly they do it for the money and will prove anything you want proven for enough cash.
Sometimes along the way they will prove something that really matters just by accident.
People just need common sense to realize what is bought and paid for and what is real.
Some people do not have common sense and worry quite a bit about being politically correct and worry even more about someone calling them racist.

 

The way that I look at it is that the theory of evolution is probably true but there is absolutely no way to prove definitively that it is .

Karl popper suggested that if a principle cannot be disproved then we cannot put it in the category of what can be called science .

He was speaking more specifically of Freudianism and Marxism but his idea can be useful in this discussion.

One simply cannot say that there is scientific proof that DNA does not control intelligence. Because it is impossible to disprove this . The converse is also true of course.

What one can say is that by logical inference it is highly likely that DNA does control intelligence . I've laid out that inference a few times on here .

What disturbs me about the course of this thread is that the words force and ban have come up as a way to control the discussion .

Some on here have started with an unprovable premise and then have decided the appropriate public policy to work within that premise.

One thing is absolutely certain in my mind though and that's that what goes around comes around and while a person may get their way by banning and forcing there will certainly come a time when the power shifts and they will be forced to do things and their positions will be banned.

What I would like to do is eliminate the precedent so that no one can force or ban.

If we can do that neither side can force or ban or at least the Temptation will be lessened for a compensatory or retaliatory Action.

Extensive and expensive efforts to bring blacks up to white standards intellectually have failed.

Those who maintain that most blacks have the innate potential to perform as well intellectually as most whites maintain something for which there is no evidence at all.

Of course, some blacks are more intelligent than some whites, especially when those "blacks" have some white ancestry.

The only reason this is not better understood is because there are taboos and sanctions against saying so in public.
