I've read several of the entries already, and there's some super stories there.

I'm trying to get through as many as possible because I'm going away for a couple of days at the weekend, and don't want to have to try and read them all, all at once, when I get back.

I enjoyed writing mine, and I'm enjoying reading everyone else's even more!

No problem - it seems the list is very different from last time.

 

Also new: hotjohn, pineapplelovers, smc, bsod. I think this is terrific!

 

I think this will be the last time I participate in one of these contests. Not that I didn't have fun, but it stole all of my free time and I still ended up not having time to edit my story. Several people have already pointed out some flaws I made (I even misnamed one of the main characters). If I had another week to edit, I would have been a lot more satisfied with my entry, but having that deadline made me do a rush job on the story, and I don't feel it's up to my usual standard of quality.

That's not to say I'm going to quit writing any time soon; I just won't do it for a contest unless I'm already a week away from finishing a story that happens to coincide with the theme as soon as the contest is announced.

 

Yep, I see readers complaining all over your new stories with tens of thousands of reads and 90s & 100% votes!

Seriously, I do understand. I did read those comments where, like you say, people noticed some flaws. But, they were of the nit-picky kind so they didn't really detract.

Yes YOU NOTICED and that means a lot to a writer.

The comments didn't get to me; they're valid criticism and I'm perfectly happy to accept that. Really they're just confirming something I already suspected even as I was uploading the story: that in not editing it after I finished it, I sacrificed quality and therefore a little bit of integrity.

And the 90's and 100's are meaningless when determining whether I did my best; this is the first story where I disabled anonymous votes, so I have no basis for comparison.

I haven't decided absolutely that I won't participate in contests anymore; right now it's just a Probably Not. And in the mean time, I will continue to write stories and post them here on the site. I'll just do it on my own schedule and terms.

I love the contests, by the way, but from now on I'll probably just enjoy them as a reader rather than as an author.

Are we going to be able to vote JUST ONE TIME for our favorite story, or will we be able to vote once for EACH story that we like?

I would prefur the second option as I have enjoyed many of the stories I have seen.

 

We're limited by the mechanics of the site. The only way to do a poll is a Just-One option.

 

It seems as if I've seen polls with multiple choices on the forum. I am not sure though. I've never conducted a poll. I once took a Pole to dinner though.

Seriously, DC is right. The only voting option available on the forum is, to my knowledge, the poll, which allows only one vote per username. So, unless someone uses sock accounts or rallies a bunch of friends who normally wouldn't vote, we only get to have one favorite. Which is a shame, since last time I, personally, would have had an easier time if I could have given about ten stories a vote.

 

They just did a multiple choice poll in GD the other day, so if it is decided we could put up one to allow people to vote a few times for all of the ones they liked, but once per story (except for socks, friends, or some other reason as WSF noted above).
