Tourists , vulcanologists , scientists reporter and cameraman all admiring the view of the smoking summit ,
nothing unusual ,
then Boom ,
an explosion ,
and suddenly there were hot rocks and ice literally raining down on all.
All on cam.

Showed a ski jacket/suit , with a head sized hole , literally melted right through it.
Someone must have quite a brose .

 

One of the reporters was filming live when it erupted, you see rocks flying everywhere, then the camera is dropped in the snow,
then you see ice and snow through the lens. It was kinda funny. Glad no one was hurt, but that was one expensive camera...

 

Is this one of those story at 11 news breaks ?
Not asking for boobs but some pictures would have been nice .

 

I ran into a hail shower (at sea) once at 40 mph.
Holly shit ,
that was frightening ,
and only small hail.

Was crossing a bay and just thought it was a rain shower coming toward me.
Thought I'd just blast through it.
Never made that mistake again.

Fortunately , no glass or perspex , it was a work boat with just a ply dodger.
Hence my head and shoulders took the full force , momentarily , as I ducked.

Always slowed for rain lines after that.
It was literally like multiple mechine gun fire.

 

Talk about being taken off guard. Watching them drag that one limp body across the ice looked painful not to mention all the bloody faces.

I can't remember seeing people run that fast before, not even at a football game.

A few years ago a gf and I left our ski lodge one morning .
Some stayed back for an extra half day ,
and a members daughter was working the facilities at top of the ski field.

About an hour away heading into nearest big town , heard on radio the mountain had erupted.
Immediately rung the girl up top.

She said
Hell yeah , it blew alright.
fucking rocks the size of cars hurtling out of the crater.

Two days previously I'd had lunch with a mate , sitting inside the crater walls ,
on a prominatary sticking out into the crater lake , looking into the steaming pool.
(that didn't exist any more)

Fortunately the lahar went out the other side , down an off field valley , missing both fields.
one each side.

Back in about 52 , a similar lahar flowed the same route ,
about 10 at night , and took out a main trunk rail bridge , just before the passenger express hit it.
about 12 carriages hurtled off into the river bed. Lots of deaths.

Been up a couple of times since , and the whole crater is very different.
