Lorne Michaels of Saturday night live quite famously said that Republicans have a much better sense of humor while Liberals are by far the more prickly when it comes to any type of satire .

When you look at it historically , it seems that everything from the alien and sedition acts to universities either editing or prohibiting conservative speakers are all products of liberalism .

One can only assume that liberals have decided what the truth is and that it's stupid to even consider other points of view.

 

The title should read that I believe that Liberals will restrict freedom of speech far more casually than conservatives.

AND Lorne Michaels only said that to get conservatives to watch SNL as they parody them every week. He did the same thing when the liberals were in power and is an equal opportunity jokester.

When people feel confident in their power they frequently try to censor ideas that they think are dangerous. From the beginning of the Cold War to the Tet Offensive the ability of Communist Party members and Communist sympathizers to express their opinions was constrained by loyalty oaths, witch hunts, and black lists.

This made it difficult to debate the Cold War, and whether there should even be a Cold War. It led to the War in Vietnam and the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

The Tet Offensive of 1968 caused many Americans to question the assumptions that led to the War in Vietnam, and forced the discussion of topics that has previously been forbidden.

During the civil rights movement advocates of the movement confidently predicted that when blacks were given equal rights race gaps in performance and behavior would close, and blacks would prove that they were innately equivalent to whites.

When these hopes were disappointed brave souls began to investigate genetic reasons for the disappointments. Those on the left who feared the political results of such investigations tried to suppress them and the publication of their findings.

I personally favor an open market for facts and opinions. I believe that truth eventually emerges from free debate. I think it was wrong to suppress pro Communist opinions. I think it is equally wrong to suppress people like Charles Murray.

 

To have free speech people have to let those people they disagree with have a chance to talk.
We have moved into a time that people are denying the right to free speech to anyone who disagrees with them.
The colleges that used to allow free speech to anyone has become one of the worst offenders of free speech.
We do not have free speech anymore in America.

 

I clicked the "like" button on that, but I think you are exaggerating. The persecution of the American Communist Party ended long ago, and I am glad. Although Charles Murray may have his speeches disrupted on college campuses, he can probably talk in other venues. He has no trouble getting his books published. Possession of those books has not been outlawed. He gets his essays published in respected opinion journals.

Unfortunately, it can be dangerous for those without his fame and money to publicly agree with him.

I was talking about the normal American citizen. They have lost the freedom of speech.
