Case in point, if a doctor recommends drinking diet soda or using "zero calorie" substitutes instead of sugar, knowing that it has direct links to expediting brain trauma in people susceptible to dementia or alzheimers such as people with Parkinsons ...and can actually bring on Parkinsons in others.

My lawyers have 10 million reasons why the answer to that one should be yes !!!

FYI: just because a person is a doctor, that doesn't make them good by default and there are some real quacks out there.

This can also be true with other things like advice in cases of addiction ...

Doctors are not even responsible if the amputate the wrong leg. What makes you thing giving an opinion on a drink would be any different?

*chuckle* Isn't that the truth. Doctors actually administered a lethal dose of chemo to my friend's wife, yet there was nothing he could do and was
advised by several lawyers that his attempts would be futile. Like law men, they're bullet proof...

I get where you are coming from and we won a class action suit last year against the insurance company of a doctor through malpractice insurance but he was shielded. We could have pursued him too (instead of adding him to a list of defendents) but the judge awarded the damages payable by them (the insurance company) and we would have had to launch a new civil suit against him directly to hold him accountable which they now want to do.

He is still doing what he was warned not to do and others are falling victim to him now.

A doctor treated my mother for asthma for over 20 years. She took all kinds of medication for it. One day she had to go to the doctor and her doctor was out of town so she went to another doctor. After a quick examination he asked her where she got the idea she had asthma. He then went on to explain how she had a growth in her throat that was slowly choking her. She had the growth removed and was magically cured from asthma.
Her medical records from the other soctor some how disappeared.

Recommending a Diet Cola is very vague grounds for damages. High blood sugar has been proven by almost a century of medical research to have devastating effects on the vascular system. The doctor may actually say, "Water would be best, but if you have to drink a soft drink, diet colas are better than sugar drinks." It's not the same as a doctor who prescribes a contraindicated medicine, which results in harm.

I have a friend who is taking way too long to die. He's been morbidly obese for the past 30 years. He suffers from decreased liver function, which gives him gout, but requires a drug which is hard on kidney function. Now, he has kidney function dropping below 20%. It's just a matter of what kills him first.

The real problem is that he weighs 340 pounds, and so far, no doctor has been able to cure that.

There is such a thing as a second opinion JPT!

Doctors make mistakes just like anyone else but the fact that your damages are set by juries and not actuaries is one reason why your health insurance premiums are so high!!

Settlements are set by actuaries, which is how most medical malpractice suits are ended. Most states have limits on actual damage awards, and other limits on punitive damages, which limits a jury's generosity.

The word terror was created in 105BC and means any person or group that causes pain, suffering, fear are in truth terrorists. The word torture also means abuse, so for every time they say abuse it is torture. Keeping these words in mind study the Charters of Freedom where freedom means free from doom, pain suffering fear

While it is true there are good doctors and bad doctors, as is true in any profession, you can can hardly blame a doctor for following the latest scientific findings. Consider the millions of lawsuits filed against practically every pharmaceutical company. Oh they are desperately trying to develop a excess fat drug. Obesity is most likely the costliest medical condition in the US.

All these problems are why a doctors job is called a "practice" because no results are guaranteed. Who else will you pay $500 just to talk to even if what they tell you is wrong? You raise hell if you pay a car mechanic $20 to figure out a problem and he is wrong. That's like all the times i went to the emergency room for debilitating headaches, all i got was a shot in the ass , we don't know whats causing it and sent home, and two weeks later a bill $8,500.

I had a friend who had hiccups that wouldn't go away. He went to all kinds of doctors, took all kinds of medicine, and they still wouldn't go away.
He finally dies and the doctors still didn't know why he had the hiccups.

Everyone has tales such as these. People give more credence to doctors than they should. Actually they are just better trained mechanics. Today's mechanic plugs your car into a computerized scanner to determine the problem.

Today's doctors practically do the same. Like a good mechanic is only as good as his tools, the same can be said for doctors.

You would think doctors would be more open to alternative methods and medicines, not the case however. A mere 30 years ago the majority of doctors referred to chiropractors as quacks. Does that sound intelligent to you? Be very wary of closed mind people.

Take the doctor's off the pedestal, they are human like the rest of us. While we have a majority of good doctors, they aren't miracle workers.

It is up to everyone of us to refrain from practices that endanger our well being. If it taste bad, don't eat it. If it doesn't grow in the ground don't eat it. It does not belong in your body. If it burns your throat and stomach don't drink or smoke it. Don't force your body into accepting things it is trying to reject.

If it hurts or even is the slightest bit uncomfortable when you lie or sit in a certain position change that position. Whatever you do physically that hurts, or bothers you even a little bit, stop doing it.

Your body is the finest crafted "machine" on earth with built in fault detectors, please make use of it's early warning system and you'll rarely have to consult a glorified "mechanic". Not only that, you'll have a much finer quality of life. Imagine feeling great ALL the time. Not to mention absolutely the finest sex you've ever had, EVERYTIME! Can't beat that reward. Pun intended...

Oh and you have to run that engine to keep it at peak performance. Light to moderate exercise daily, and a good workout two or three times a week.

I was brought up in Britain in the late 50s and 60s when we had a National Health Service which really took care of the population. Each family registered with a doctor of its choice. Our doctor was an amazing man who was as much a family friend as our doctor. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
When he retired, he was replaced by a young woman who didn't seem to give a shit for her patients. My mother fell ill and phoned to arrange a house call. She was told that, if she was well enough to call, she was well enough to come to the surgery. Despite having a condition causing her skin to peel off, the doctor diagnosed heartburn and suggested antacid tablets. A week later my mother died of a heart attack. Nothing ever resulted from this.

That's a pretty standard reality in the U.S..
People who have put people in homes ( hopefully ) do some very careful shopping, but with the added benefit of severe financial burden. Even if you chose the cheap option? Surprise, you still can't afford it.

They call it "practicing medicine ", it's not perfected.
Do the best you can at finding the best one you can afford.
Your life is probably worth the effort.
