Ok I learned a long time ago not to try and predict the outcome of elections. In fact I came to see doing that as some kind of curse that would guarantee I would not like the results.

So I think its more useful to look at the trends in the long run and keep in mind that things can change very rapidly. And sometimes it actually more productive to try and judge the mood of the country than it is to try and predict candidates or party.

But in looking up something for another thread I admit I was surprised to find this. Right now about 60% of the c0untry thinks we are on the wrong track and only about 30% on the right track. And that is not a good indication for Trump and the Republicans.

President Trump is trying desperately to keep the American people in the dark about some very dark secrets of his relations with Russians.

When the FBI and the mainstream media shine light on those secrets the results will be even more embarrassing for Trump and his Deplorables than several photos I have seen of Donald with Ivanka.

 

What the left fails to realize is that Obama was only part of the problem. Two thirds of the government still needs to be fixed, so this is not a short term solution. I find the MSM reporting of Trump irrelevant. I'm focused on the remaining problems with the two thirds that needs to be fixed. If Trump goes, then we've got Pence, which is still a win for Americans.

 

We will see. The elections are more than a year away and just because all the indicators favor Democrats right now that does not mean they will in November 2018. But I look forward to them. We Democrats really have nothing to lose because is we don't take back the House and/or Senate we are no worse off than we are right now. But on the other hand if the Democrats take even one of the houses it will be a brand new ballgame for Trump and his supporters. And one they really will not like.

 

Even the House is cooperating with one another in an effort to limit Trumps "power" ... he only wants to ease sanctions on Russia as payola anyway to keep them quiet.

U.S. Congress strikes deal on sanctions bill, handcuffing Trump on Russia
U.S. Republicans and Democrats have reached agreement on legislation that allows new sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea, leading congressional Democrats said on Saturday, in a bill that would limit any potential effort by President Donald Trump to try to lift sanctions against Moscow.

The Countering Iran's Destabilizing Activities Act, which was passed by the Senate a month ago, was held up in the House of Representatives after Republicans proposed including North Korea sanctions in the bill.

The House is set to vote on Tuesday on a package of bills on sanctions covering Russia, Iran and North Korea, according to House majority leader Kevin McCarthy's office. The measure will "hold them accountable for their dangerous actions," McCarthy said in a statement Saturday.

Under the proposed bill, Trump must submit to Congress a report on proposed actions that would "significantly alter" U.S. foreign policy in connection with Russia, including easing sanctions or returning diplomatic properties in Maryland and New York that former president Barack Obama ordered vacated in December.

Congress would have at least 30 days to hold hearings and then vote to uphold or reject Trump's proposed changes. Many lawmakers hope the bill will send a message to Trump to keep a strong line against Russia.

Trump, who met Putin at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg earlier this month and said it was an "honour" to meet him, has been criticized for seeking to reset U.S.-Russian relations. His administration has been bogged down by ongoing investigations of possible ties between his 2016 campaign and Russia.

Message to Moscow
With the bill, Republicans and Democrats are seeking to punish Russia for its 2014 annexation of Crimea, a peninsula belonging to Ukraine, and for meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Putin has denied any meddling in the U.S. democratic process last year. Trump has said that his campaign did not collude with Russia.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said Russia's "outrageous and unacceptable" behavior in the 2016 U.S. election and in Europe "demand that we have strong statutory sanctions enacted as soon as possible."

Even so, she expressed concerns that by including North Korea the legislation could face procedural delays in the Senate.

Far-ranging implications
Senior Republican lawmakers did not immediately comment on the latest bill. In Brussels, the European Union sounded an alarm about the U.S. moves to step up sanctions on Russia, urging Washington to coordinate with its G7 partners.

The European Commission, the EU's executive body, warned of possibly "wide and indiscriminate" "unintended consequences," notably on the EU's efforts to diversify energy sources away from Russia.

McCarthy and Ed Royce, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement the revised bill helps "bolster the energy security of our European allies by maintaining their access to key energy resources outside of Russia."

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said a strong sanctions bill "is essential," and said in a statement that he expects "the House and Senate will act on this legislation promptly, on a broad bipartisan basis."

Senator Ben Cardin, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the agreement was reached after "intense negotiations."

"A nearly united Congress is poised to send President Putin a clear message on behalf of the American people and our allies, and we need President Trump to help us deliver that message," he said in a statement.

The number of people apprehended while trying to cross the Southwest border illegally has plummeted, as the age-old practice of hopping the border without papers has changed profoundly in recent months.

One human smuggler, who gives his first name as Orlando, said his business is worse than he's ever seen it. He blames the Trump administration's increased emphasis on border security and enforcement of federal immigration laws.

"There's a lot more security on the river," says the 28-year-old, whose nickname is El Lobo, or the Wolf in Spanish. He doesn't want to give his full name because what he does is unlawful, though he agrees to an interview at a McDonald's in central Matamoros, Mexico, across from Brownsville, Texas. He's wiry with a dark complexion and a habit of constantly checking his cellphone.

"With the change in administration on that side, it's heated up: There are more agents, more dogs, more trucks, more boats. We have to charge more, and fewer people want to cross."

Janet Yellen Touts Strength Of U.S. Economy In Case For Unwinding Crisis-Era Stimulus

Janet Yellen struck an optimistic tone on the U.S. economy in front of Congress on Wednesday, emphasizing continued improvements in the labor market, rising consumer spending and a pick-up in business investment.

As such, the Federal Reserve plans to continue raising interest rates and will soon begin to unwind its balance sheet, said chairwoman Yellen in prepared testimony she delivered to the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Looking ahead, my colleagues on the FOMC and I expect that, with further gradual adjustments in the stance of monetary policy, the economy will continue to expand at a moderate pace over the next couple of years," said Yellen.

In her semi-annual appearance on Capitol Hill, Yellen noted a labor market that has gathered momentum, with job gains averaging 180,000 per month so far this year and the unemployment rate sinking to 4.4%. She called declining jobless rates for most demographic groups "encouraging."

While Iraq has declared victory in Mosul and the battle for Raqqa heats up, the U.S. held a three-day summit of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS that ended Thursday, celebrating some key milestones and taking stock of the long road ahead.

After two days of coalition-wide meetings, U.S. Special Envoy to the Coalition Brett McGurk addressed the smaller core coalition group assembled Thursday to report that the fight against ISIS had accelerated over the last four months at President Donald Trump's request. He praised the heroism of Iraqi and Kurdish forces and the significant progress on the battlefield, with 25,000 square miles cleared of ISIS and 4.82 million people liberated from its rule -- over 3 million of them in Iraq alone.

That means ISIS holds just 2.2 percent of territory in Iraq now and 8.3 percent across the border in Syria. That also means 350,000 children who were living under ISIS are now back in school, after years of brainwashing.

Bodies found in trailer in San Antonio

Eight people were found dead Sunday morning inside an 18-wheeler in the parking lot of a Walmart store in San Antonio, city police and fire officials said.

A total of 38 people had been inside the tractor-trailer, including two school-age children, authorities said. Twenty people were taken to area hospitals in critical condition, and another eight had “less critical” injuries.

The vehicle did not have a working air conditioning system, authorities said.

Authorities were first alerted by a store employee who called the police after being approached by someone from the truck who was asking for water.

“Late last night we got a call from a Walmart employee about a welfare check in a tractor-trailer that was parked in the lot here,” Police Chief William McManus said.

According to police, surveillance video from the store showed "a number of vehicles" picking up people who survived the trip that were inside the trailer.

 

Why are Reps running to Dems for ideas in the first place? Why is it always up to the Democrats to come up with ideas?
