In latest reversal, Gillibrand now supports letting illegal immigrants get driver's licenses

After initially opposing the idea of her home state granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has had a change of heart.

“I think we have to make it possible for people to provide for their families,” the New York Democrat said Wednesday, as she was leaving to attend her 2020 presidential campaign kickoff event.

Gillibrand's new stand on the issue is in contrast from the position she took during her days in the House, when she opposed then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s controversial 2007 plan to allow illegal immigrants living in New York to obtain driver licenses.

At a Wednesday news conference in Troy – a city of about 50,000 residents just outside Gillibrand's birthplace, the state capital Albany – the second-term senator said her heart has guided her policy reversals on issues such as gun control, granting amnesty to illegal immigrants and her opposition to sanctuary cities, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Allowing non-citizens to get driver's licenses means they can get liability insurance. There are even Republicans who can see the advantage to that.

 

A better course would be to not let ILLEGAL immigrants stay long enough to need a drivers license.

 

Arrest, jail and deport them, when they show up to apply.

 

You'll have to discuss that with the EMPLOYERS who hire them then.

 

There are some States that require an E-verify certification, and some business are also requiring, particularly those that have federal contracts

Do you mean Trump will get behind making E-Verify mandatory for all employers if he gets his wall? Sounds fair to me. The only problem is mandatory E-Verify is one of the things that killed the Gang of 8 bill in 2013. It passed in the Senate will 68 votes, but the 32 against were Republicans. John Boehner killed it in the House.

But this gets back to the greater issue. $5 Billion is probably doable, but the Democrats are unwilling to include it in the budget without COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM. The Secure Fences Act of 2006, which provided for 700 miles of barriers, did little to stem the flow of immigrants across the border. More barriers will make little difference if employers continue to hire undocumented workers. Bring back the Gang of 8 bill. It had something for everyone.

Younger, more in tune with todays youth has some definite power with the new surge in young voters... but most are simply playing the game for the future (run-lose, run-lose, run-chance).

It will be Biden if anyone else doesn't really excite the masses. One thing is for sure though, trump's gone, how many republicans he takes down with him is another thing.

Tulsi Gabbard's presidential campaign in trouble just days after launch: report

U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s 2020 presidential campaign is already in trouble, just days after the Hawaii Democrat formally announced her White House bid, according to a report.

The congresswoman’s campaign manager, Rania Batrice, and consulting firm, Revolution Messaging, are set to depart, Politico reported Tuesday. Gabbard will rely on her sister to fill the void, the report said.

In addition to losing Batrice, Gabbard, 37, is also under fire for a public feud with U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, over her questioning of a judicial nominee and other Democratic politicians in the Aloha State. She will also have to defend her House seat against state Sen. Kai Kahele, a Democrat, who recently announced his candidacy.

People familiar with Gabbard’s presidential bid described her to Politico as someone who is indecisive and impulsive. In early January, she announced on CNN that she was running for president, a move that blindsided her staff and suggested a disconnect between her and her team.

 

The Dems will eat each other alive long before the Primaries. This is going to be fun.
