The objective was not to protect you from getting Covid, so that you would not die. It was to protect those at risk of dying from YOU. By millions of healthy young people going unvaccinated, the number of potentially contagious people wandering around spreading the virus to others.
This was compounded by the same ignorance that rejected vaccination, also rejected masks. Masks were never touted to reduce the chance that the wearer would contract the decease, but rather to help reduce the spread of the virus to others.
