Biden’s Green Energy Flop: Ford Cuts Electric Truck Production in Half Over Lack of Demand

In another setback for President Joe Biden’s green energy agenda, Ford Motor Co. is cutting production of its all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck in half as the auto industry grapples with a lack of demand for Electric Vehicles (EVs).

The report from Automotive News details a planning memo from Ford executives sent to suppliers. The memo indicates that Ford will now only produce about 1,600 F-150 Lightning trucks at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan.

That weekly production total is half what Ford executives had initially planned to produce, suggesting that demand among Americans for EVs is forcing nearly every automaker in the country to cut back.

Ford Motor Co. is dialing back planned output of the electric F-150 Lightning pickup by half next year because of “changing market demand,” a steep pullback of a high-profile nameplate the automaker spent most of this year working to build in larger numbers.

According to a planning memo obtained by Automotive News, Ford has told suppliers to prepare for average volume of around 1,600 Lightnings a week at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Mich., starting in January. It had planned to assemble an average of 3,200 a week, toward an annual goal of 150,000.

Output of gasoline-powered pickups at plants in Michigan and Missouri is expected to be essentially unchanged, the company said in the memo.

Already, Ford announced that it was cutting jobs and financial investment at an EV battery plant set for Marshall, Michigan.

The plant, in partnership with China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. (CATL), was initially going to create 2,500 jobs with $3.5 billion in investment. Now, the plant will create 800 jobs with $2.5 billion in investment — cutting scheduled production by about 40 percent.

The lack of demand for EVs is a major issue for Biden as he campaigns on having passed the Inflation Reduction Act which imposes mandates on American consumers to effectively force the electrification of the nation’s auto industry.

As Breitbart News reported late last month, car dealers across the United States are so concerned with EV sales that they have urged Biden to abandon his EV mandates.

“The reality, however, is that electric vehicle demand today is not keeping up with the large influx of [EVs] arriving at our dealerships prompted by the current regulations. [EVs] are stacking up on our lots,” the car dealers wrote:

With each passing day, it becomes more apparent that this attempted electric vehicle mandate is unrealistic based on current and forecasted customer demand. Already, electric vehicles are stacking up on our lots which is our best indicator of customer demand in the marketplace. [Emphasis added]

At the same time, a bombshell Consumer Reports survey recently revealed that EVs spur nearly 80 percent more problems for car owners than gas-powered cars using traditional combustion engines.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll this week - like many other polls over the past month - found Donald Trump in the lead.

But the looming election rematch next year between Biden and Trump would be closely fought with both candidates saddled with profound vulnerabilities that could cost them the White House.

Biden, 81, continues to be plagued by voters' doubts about the strength of the economy, as well as concerns about the security of the U.S.-Mexico border and worries about crime.

Trump, 77, faces his own worries, including four criminal trials on a bevy of charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his handling of classified documents.

A conviction prior to the November 5, 2024, election could cost him significant support, the Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

Trump is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination by a wide margin, the poll showed.

Nearly 3-in-5 Illegal Alien Households Are on Taxpayer-Funded Welfare

Close to 60 percent of households headed by illegal aliens use at least one major form of welfare, an analysis conducted by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals.

The CIS analysis from Steven Camarota and Karen Zeigler shows illegal aliens and legal immigrants, in general, use “significantly more” welfare than native-born American citizens.

For example, about 59 percent of households headed by illegal aliens use welfare and about 52 percent of households headed by legal immigrants use at least one form of welfare. At the same time, fewer than 4-in-10 households headed by native-born American citizens use welfare.

“… this is primarily because the American welfare system is designed in large part to help low-income families with children, which describes a large share of immigrants,” CIS researchers note.

In particular, the study found that immigrant-headed households use far more food stamps, Medicaid benefits, and the Earned Income Tax Credit than native-born American households.

“Compared to households headed by the United States-born, immigrant-headed households have especially high use of food programs (36 percent vs. 25 percent for the U.S.-born), Medicaid (37 percent vs. 25 percent for the U.S.-born), and the Earned Income Tax Credit (16 percent vs. 12 percent for the U.S.-born),” CIS researchers state.

The use of taxpayer-funded welfare among illegal aliens as well as legal immigrants is significant as the nation’s foreign-born population hits new record highs under President Joe Biden.

CIS researchers, last month, unveiled that 49.5 million foreign-born residents now live across the U.S. — the largest ever in American history and the overwhelming majority of which is driven by legal immigration levels. For comparison, the foreign-born population was just 9.7 million in 1960.

Biden has increased the foreign-born population by 4.5 million since January 2021.

Without reductions to legal immigration levels, where more than a million legal immigrants are rewarded green cards annually, the foreign-born population is expected to hit 70 million by 2060.

American voters continuously tell pollsters they want cuts to overall immigration, mostly legal immigration. The latest survey from Rasmussen Reports showed 56 percent of likely voters want legal immigration levels cut to at least 750,000 admissions a year — including a plurality who said they want to see fewer than 500,000 admissions a year.
