NYC hotels housing migrants get taxpayer-funded windfall: report
Hotels have accounted for about 80% of New York City shelter space.

New York City hotels housing migrants have brought in over a billion dollars in taxpayer funds since converting their buildings into migrant shelters.

New York City is spending an average of $156 per room per night on hotel rooms that house migrants, with some rooms costing the city over $300 per night, according to a report from the New York Post.

The city has spent about $4.88 billion on the migrant crisis over the last few years, the report notes, $1.98 billion of which has gone toward housing. While some of the nearly $2 billion that has been spent on housing has gone to city shelters, roughly 80% of the shelters being used by the city are motels or inns, internal documents obtained by the New York Post revealed.

Forum members will recall the revelation that the brandon administration was bringing ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS into the country by the plane load.
From garden spots like Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Up to 30,000 a month.
Well, brandon quietly suspended the "freedom flights" in mid July after concerns were raised about fraud in the program.
One of the conditions for these stellar immigrants to be flown here is that they have an American sponsor.
Details are sketchy, but it seems there's a problem with the validity of the sponsors.

Biden admin freezes controversial migrant flight program after fraud revelations

EXCLUSIVE: The Biden administration has put a controversial program that allows tens of thousands of migrants from four nations to fly or travel directly into the U.S. on hold, after a report circulated internally showing significant amounts of fraud in the program.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Fox News Digital that "out of an abundance of caution" it has temporarily paused the issuing of advance travel authorizations for the program -- which allows up to 30,000 nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela (CHNV) to travel into the U.S. each month and enter legally under the administration's use of parole if they meet certain conditions.

A congressional source had told Fox News Digital the pause came in mid-July after an internal report unearthed large amounts of fraud in applications for those sponsoring the applicants. DHS said the pause was occurring as it reviewed sponsor applications.

DHS DOCS REVEAL WHERE PAROLED MIGRANTS UNDER CONTROVERSIAL BIDEN FLIGHT PROGRAM ARE LANDING

"DHS has review mechanisms in place to detect and prevent fraud and abuse in our immigration processes. DHS takes any abuse of its processes very seriously," a DHS spokesperson said. "Where fraud is identified, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will investigate and litigate applicable cases in immigration court and make criminal referrals to the Department of Justice."

"Out of an abundance of caution, DHS has temporarily paused the issuance of advanced travel authorizations for new beneficiaries while it undertakes a review of supporter applications. DHS will restart application processing as quickly as possible, with appropriate safeguards," they said.

The program was initially announced for Venezuelans in October 2022, and allowed a limited number to fly or travel directly into the U.S. as long as they had not entered illegally, had a sponsor in the U.S., and passed certain biometric and biographical vetting. The program does not itself facilitate flights, and migrants are responsible for their own travel.

In January 2023, the administration announced that the program was expanding to include Haitians, Nicaraguans and Cubans and that the program would allow up to 30,000 people per month into the U.S. It allows for migrants to receive work permits and a two-year authorization to live in the U.S. and was announced alongside an expansion of Title 42 expulsions to include those nationalities.

A congressional source tells Fox News Digital that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stopped issuing travel authorizations to Venezuelans on July 6 and authorizations for the three remaining nationalities on July 18.

The internal report found that forms from those applying for the program included social security numbers, addresses and phone numbers being used hundreds of times in some cases.

Parts of the report shared with Fox News Digital by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a conservative immigration group, showed that 100,948 forms were filled out by 3,218 serial sponsors -- those whose number appears on 20 or more forms.

‘ILLEGAL PROGRAM': GOVERNOR VOWS TO FIGHT BIDEN FLYING MIGRANTS INTO US

It also found that 24 of the 1,000 most used numbers belonged to a dead person. Meanwhile, 100 physical addresses were used between 124 and 739 times on over 19,000 forms. Those addresses included storage units. One sponsor phone number was submitted on over 2,000 forms, and there were 2,839 forms with non-existent sponsor zip codes, according to the leak.

The report was created by the Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate to ensure DHS can quickly respond to fraud in immigration benefits programs. Sponsors must pass security and background vetting and demonstrate financial resources to support the individual they are sponsoring.

DHS stressed to Fox News Digital that CHNV beneficiaries are "thoroughly screened and vetted prior to their arrival to the United States."

"The multi-layered screening and vetting for advanced travel authorizations is separate from the screening of U.S.-based supporters," the spokesperson said. "DHS has not identified issues of concern relating to the screening and vetting of beneficiaries."

The freeze is likely to raise additional questions from Republicans, who have alleged that the Biden administration’s use of parole is an abuse of congressionally-granted authority -- which limits the power to be used only for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit.

"This is an indication that the administration was willing to cut every corner and endanger public safety in order to bring in as many illegal aliens as they could," Ira Mehlman, a spokesperson for FAIR, told Fox News Digital.

The administration is also using the CBP One app to allow 1,450 migrants to enter the U.S. via a port of entry each day. It recently announced a "parole in place" for spouses of illegal immigrants.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently said the program is a "safe and orderly way to reach the United States" and has "led to a reduction in numbers of those nationalities."

"It is a key element of our efforts to address the unprecedented level of migration throughout our hemisphere, and other countries around the world see it as a model to tackle the challenge of increased irregular migration that they too are experiencing," Mayorkas said.

DHS revealed this year that, as of October 2023, there were about 1.6 million applicants waiting for DHS approval to fly to the U.S. via the parole program.

A lawsuit challenging the program was shot down earlier this year, but Republican states who filed it have indicated they intend to appeal.

Greg Abbott Celebrates New 'Most Wanted' Illegal Immigrant Arrest In Texas (msn.com)
Greg Abbott Celebrates New 'Most Wanted' Illegal Immigrant Arrest In Texas
    Story by Billal Rahman
    • 2h

Texas Governor Greg Abbott celebrated on social media after the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested another "most wanted" illegal immigrant in Texas.

The man was arrested in Round Rock, Texas, on July 31 after he was accused of raping a child.

Abbott said one more "criminal" is behind bars and "off our streets" after the man was apprehended by law enforcement officials.

Abbott said in a post on X, formerly Twitter: "Texas arrested another criminal on our 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List. That is one more criminal the Biden-Harris Administration let into our country that is now behind bars and off our streets. Texas won't stop until our state—and our nation—is safe."

U.S. Marshals arrested 25-year-old Mexican national Fabian Toribio-Martinez, who was on Texas' 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrant list, at an apartment complex.

Toribio-Martinez is being charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and possession of a controlled substance. He was taken into custody on Wednesday by DPS Special Agents and the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and booked into the Williamson County Jail.

According to a press release, the Mexican national had two outstanding warrants out in Travis County from January 2024 and October 2023.

Toribio-Martinez was initially arrested in April 2018 and deported from the country. He was then arrested again in 2023 for possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest after unlawfully reentering.

The Austin Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest for aggravated sexual assault of a child in January.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said a Crime Stoppers reward will not be paid for this arrest.

Toribio-Martinez remains in the Williamson County Jail. His arrest was part of a collaborative investigative effort, which mobilized a task force and utilized the combined manpower of federal and local agencies to apprehend perpetrators with outstanding warrants.

Seven out of the top ten "most wanted" illegal immigrants in Texas are suspected of sexually assaulting children.

Abbot launched a series of blistering attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris after she took over the baton from President Joe Biden in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election over her immigration policy.

The Republican Governor has repeatedly branded Harris as Biden's "border czar," despite her never officially holding this title.

Abbott launched a scathing attack on Harris' record on immigration policy after she recently visited Texas without stopping at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Abbott said Harris "couldn't trouble herself" to visit the border during her campaign visit to Texas.

Harris has been under increasing pressure over what Republicans perceive as a lack of leadership surrounding border security and immigration policy.

Newsweek has contacted the White House for comment via email outside of standard working hours.

Under the Biden-Harris administration, U.S.-Mexico border arrests plummeted by nearly a third in July to a new low under the current administration.

NYC wasted millions in migrant spending on unnecessary services and empty hotel rooms, audit finds (msn.com)
NYC wasted millions in migrant spending on unnecessary services and empty hotel rooms, audit finds
Story by Josephine Stratman, New York Daily News
    • 17h •

NEW YORK — The medical services company with a nearly half-billion-dollar contract to feed, house and care for thousands of migrants in New York City overcharged the city by millions for vacant hotel rooms and security guards, according to an audit released Tuesday by NYC Comptroller Brad Lander.

The audit found that 80% of the $13.8 million paid to the company, DocGo, during May and June 2023 should be recouped by the city. Among the wasted funds, the report concluded, is $1.7 million in nearly 10,000 unused hotel room nights during that time period and unauthorized security services that were overpaid to the tune of $2 million.

“It really is atrocious mismanagement,” Lander said, slamming Mayor Eric Adams’ choice to contract with the company at a Hell’s Kitchen press conference.

Lander, who announced his mayoral run last week, stated Tuesday that the audit wasn’t a political move, but fell under his duty as the city’s fiscal watchdog — but his audit drew a sharp rebuke from the mayor’s team.

“It’s very comfortable to sit in the bleachers and, you know, just be a detached spectator, but when you are running a city as complex as this, you have to be prepared, and that’s what this team did and was able to do,” Adams said of Lander on Tuesday.

The audit found DocGo-run shelters didn’t staff enough caseworkers and social workers at hotels, as mandated by their contract with the city. In a survey of over 200 asylum seekers, 25% said they weren’t aware that they could enroll their children in school and 41% said they were unhappy with the food they were provided. "The audit reveals in excruciating detail that the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development failed to conduct sufficient oversight of the contract — in a way that is costing taxpayers millions of dollars,” Lander said.

In September 2023, when the $432 million contract was submitted to the Comptroller’s Office, Lander denied it — citing multiple concerns including DocGo’s experience in providing emergency housing, a lack of clarity about where all the money was going and vendor selection and responsibility. Mayor Adams moved forward with the contract despite Lander’s objections, and Lander announced the audit shortly after.

At a City Hall press briefing later on Tuesday, Adams said the fact that his administration booked up what turned out to be too many hotel rooms was a matter of being prepared for the ongoing influx of migrants to the city. “When you got called in the middle of the night, ‘You need 200 rooms, you know, a bus pulled in, you need 150 rooms, you need 300 rooms’ — you don’t have time to call Motel Six, you better be prepared and that’s what this team did,” he said.

Liz Garcia, a spokesperson for the mayor, slammed the audit as outdated and wrong. “The comptroller can nitpick the first two months of an emergency contract over a year after the fact and long after new safeguards were put in place, but he cannot claim to have saved a single migrant family from sleeping on the streets,” she said in a statement. “We will continue to pay our partners for the work they do on behalf of the city, particularly amidst a humanitarian crisis.” New York City has been at the center of a migrant crisis since 2022, when a surge in asylum seekers arriving from the southern border began to overwhelm the city’s shelter system.

The city has opened more than 200 emergency shelters and spent over $4 billion in migrant services over the past two years. There are currently around 65,000 migrants living in city shelters across the city. “HPD staff and its vendors worked around the clock, seven days a week, to make sure that the thousands of people suddenly on the city’s doorstep were safe, sheltered, and fed,” said Ilana Maier, a spokesperson for the department. “When HPD made decisions quickly, it made them compassionately; and when procedures didn’t yet exist and documentation wasn’t available in the moment, HPD exercised good judgment rather than risking lives for bureaucratic steps.”

DocGo’s contract in the city ended in May, and services are being handed over to a different company with an already existing contract with the city. The company did not respond to a request for comment.

Report: Nearly 100 Illegal Immigrants on Terror Watchlist Released Into US Under Biden-Harris.

Last week, we wrote about Kamala Harris' speech at a California mosque in which she demanded Americans stop using supposedly bigoted language like 'radical Islamic terrorism' and 'illegal alien.' We also covered the development that two illegal immigrant Jordanian nationals who tried to breach one of the most sensitive military installations in the country were granted bail and released under the Biden-Harris administration's insane, anti-deportation policies. Harris publicly mused about convicted terrorists being allowed to vote from prison in our elections. She also ridiculed the notion that terrorists were exploiting the southern border to infiltrate the country:
    Matt Wolking
    @MattWolking

Kamala Harris is a national security disaster. In 2019 she mocked the idea that terrorists "are trying to invade the country" through the southern border. "It couldn't be farther from the truth." Just last month it was reported that, on her watch, hundreds of migrants tied to an ISIS trafficking network have been smuggled into our country, and many are still roaming free. https://nbcnews.com/investigations/dhs-identifies-400-migrants-brought-us-isis-linked-human-smuggling-rcna158777… On her watch, 8 suspected terrorists with possible ISIS ties crossed the southern border and were later arrested in New York, L.A. and Philadelphia.

In that same piece, we relayed NBC reporting that the Biden-Harris administration was frantically trying to track down hundreds of illegal immigrants who were brought into the country by an ISIS-linked human trafficking operation, many of whom are still unaccounted for. That story came on the heels of this related episode: "Per federal source familiar, ICE, in conjunction w/ the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, arrested 8 Tajikistan nationals w/ suspected ISIS ties in NYC, LA, and Philly in recent days. I'm told all 8 crossed the southern border illegally, received 'full vetting,'" and were released. A few months prior to that, NBC aired this report.

    RNC Researc

    @RNCResearch

NBC: The Biden administration RELEASED a member of an Afghan terror organization, whose name was on the terror watch list, into the U.S. after he illegally crossed the border — then tried to cover it up.

"Among the record number of migrants crossing the southern border was a member of an Afghan terror organization who was released into the US...[he] illegally crossed into California in March of last year. His name is on a US terror watch list, identifying him as a member of...a terrorist group that has killed Americans...[He] was allowed to apply for work authorization and board planes in the US, according to those officials. After almost a year, ICE officials arrested him in San Antonio, but when he went to court, US officials tell us, ICE withheld classified information about his terrorism ties. A judge ordered him released on $12,000 bond, which he posted, and was freed last month."

Meanwhile, over in Denver, the Venezuelan gangs who have taken over a couple of apartment buildings are still in place, and still running things. The Aurora mayor is busy with damage control.
    What we've learned is that;

    A) Many of these gang members were actually flown here on brandon's freedom flights
    B) The Venezuelan government has refused to even confirm the identities of Venezuelans on the flights
    C) The Venezuelan government refuses to accept back any Venezuelans the US deports.
    D) The freedom flights have resumed after a brief hiatus when massive fraud was exposed in the program.

Aurora, Colorado Mayor Responds to Allegations of Venezuelan Gang Takeover
    Story by Dan Gooding
    • 20h •

The mayor of Aurora, Colorado, who was thrown into the spotlight over a video showing violence carried out by Venezuelan gang members, has told Newsweek that his town is not overrun and that the situation has been used for political point scoring.

Two apartment buildings in Aurora, housing immigrants and other residents became the center of attention last week when the clip, showing armed men searching apartments, went viral.

Mayor Michael Coffman, who initially described the situation to Fox News as "an organized criminal effort," said Friday that the story had snowballed.

"I certainly have concerns about the border, I have concerns about immigration policy, but from what I can see now, it seems to have an exaggerated importance," Coffman told Newsweek.

"I'm not dismissing the concerns at all, but whatever happened initially, happened. What I can tell you now is that the gangs are not in control of either complex," the Aurora mayor said.

Coffman, who served as a representative in the U.S. Congress for ten years, initially believed that the Venezuelan gang known as Tren de Aragua was in control and taking rent from residents.

Instead, the property managers had vanished and tenants simply were not paying anybody, Coffman explained.

The two complexes on Dallas Street and Helena Street are both facing maintenance issues and a lack of management, but the mayor said this has been the case for some time.

Property managers have been offered two full-time police officers for the next two weeks, should they return and regain control of the properties.

Aurora is a small town close to Denver, a sanctuary city that has welcomed migrants who have crossed the southwest border into the United States. Coffman said several new arrivals had been "crammed" into apartment buildings in his town, which then caused problems.

The mayor said the town had a long-standing Venezuelan population, many who have been there for years, but that unrest in the South American country had pushed more migrants toward the U.S.—both those with criminal histories and their victims.

"There is inadequate vetting of people at the border," Coffman said.

"So, it's my understanding that when you do have a concentration of Venezuelan migrants sometimes, sadly, that criminal element follows and exploits them within their own immigrant communities."

Coffman said that this, and corruption within Venezuela, had made it difficult for his police department to secure cooperation with authorities there to secure criminal histories of suspected members of the gang.

The Aurora Police Department has issued multiple updates in the past week, saying that it arrested six suspected Tren de Aragua members and increased its presence around the apartment complexes.

On Thursday, Republicans, including Colorado Representatives Lauren Boebert and Greg Lopez and Texas Representative Chip Roy, held a press conference nearby and blamed the Biden administration for the situation in Aurora.

Lopez called the migrants "wild dogs" and said it was time to shut the borders down.

"Look at what they do. They go around, they create havoc, and if we allow them to take over a certain area, they're going to breed, and they're going to spread," he said.

Boebert, who said she was raised in Aurora, said there was clear evidence that gang violence was rampant in the town and was not "a feature of your imagination."

Coffman took issue with the group holding the event because they were not all representatives of Aurora.

"They came in from the outside, and their goal as Republicans—I'm a Republican, and I get it—their goal is to tie it into the presidential election," Coffman said.

Coffman did voice frustration with the current immigration system, saying those housed in complexes like those in his town were unable to work for months after arriving, leaving them open to exploitation by gangs.

He said that he felt that current immigration policy needed to change due to "such negligence" at the federal level.

"Both sides have their fingerprints on this problem," Coffman added, saying that former President Barack Obama did not do enough to get a bipartisan solution and neither did former President Donald Trump.

The mayor said that the only real immigration policy changes had come through executive action, but this was not sustainable.

"I just hope that Congress comes together and fixes this broken system," he told Newsweek. "It's way too easy to come into this country illegally, and it's so hard to come in legally.

"I just think that the situation we are facing right now is the product of a broken immigration system."
