do you have any news on when to expect The Hobbit on DVD and what they are going to do for the director's cut?

 

They broke the Hobbit up into two movies, the first "The Hobbit: The unexpected Journey" comes to theaters in December. So to answer your question Darth, the hobbit part 1 should be coming out sometime I would guess around March of next year.

The second hobbit movie comes out sometime next year. If they do things like they tend to do them i would guess that the DVD/Blu-ray will come out sometwhere around the time the second movie goes to theaters.

It sounds like they are doing the story right then ----- that was always one of my gripes about the presentations of LOTR - too much got CUT.

 

SNOW YOUR A GENUS! I think I have to write that story now! 100,000 Richard Simmons army it just begs to be written. I could see it now his "Sweating to the oldies" tape was really a mind control device that slowly changed people over to the image of himself (Kind of like Agent Smith from the Matrix) and he leads that army aginst the fat people of the land of "MacDonald"and their King Ronald. I think this thing might just write itself, it's brilliant! :excited:

I agree that there was a lot left out of the LOTR movies but I thought it was still one of the best book to movie translations ever done. It's hard to take 1200 or so pages and do even three movies and have them include everything.

I can't wait to see what the Hobbit turns out like as I have always been a fan of that story. I had the Hobbit book on record thing as a kid where you had a picture book and a record that read it to you. I can remember that being like my favorite story about 30 years ago. I was so happy years later when I found out there were more stories after the hobbit.

 

I don't know why I'm so excited by this.

I just gave my entry a thorough re-reading and caught more dumb stuff (like confusing characters' names)!

But, I'm ready and anxious to post. I'm also VERY interested to see what some other people have done.

 

Stop bragging I've only managed about ten pages so far, I might have to pull a couple all nighters.:wall::wall::wall:

I just came up with my story idea on monday and if this keeps going I might have to submit a very short version of this story then go back and write it into a much larger story later.

Richard Simmons, leading his vast hoard of 100k happy-go-lucky selves stretching across the land, leaving a trail of dance-broken, flatulance blinded humanity behind them...then come the 'Ye Olden McDonalds and their hoard of farm aniamils....

In the middle of the field comes the Mummy...who declared 'WRAP!"

And then comes the song 'Thriller!....Thriller....(werewolf howls)"

 

From the ramparts we hear the call, "BEWARE, apon us is an army dressed in striped tank tops and sparkly storts." The crowd screams in terror........

As regards The Hobbit movie, I hear that they're actually breaking it into three films now, so they obviously are detailing it well (and also stretching the cash cow as far as it will go).

I loved the LOTR movies, I thought Peter Jackson did a great job. With ther benefit of hindsight I bet the movie makers are secretly kicking themselves for not making it into six movies, which they could quite easily have done.

 

Thanks for the heads up JR I had noticed they changed the name of the second film but not seen that there was a third one coming out now. Here is the quote from Wikipidia:

I've had a couple of requests about deadline extensions. Generally, if some last-minute disaster outside of your control strikes during the submission period (server crash, harddrive crap, sudden illness, etc) I would take it into account, although obviously even for those things there are limits to how much slack I can extend (can't take a new entry a week and a half into the reading period, for example). There will also be a delay of a day or two between the end of submissions and the posting of the reading list thanks to my schedule (I have jury duty and two jobs next week), so if anyone squeezes in before the list goes up I will probably not notice the difference. But of course, the best thing is to be on time.

If you're not done yet then don't panic, you still have a few days, and you'd be surprised how much you can get done in that time. Good luck all.

 

Final proofing on my non-entry.

I noticed something that made me glad for a bright, warm autumn day's street-sounds.

In both the stories I'm going to post tomorrow, a character's fate is sealed around word number 6666. There are six survivors in my non-entry story, and five victims in the actual entry, with a sixth one in the making.

 

Until the gallant lad of Old'e Mc'Donaldson leads the counter charge over the walls on the great heard of lowing oxen, snorting bison and an ostrich or two in tow...in their hands are vessels of ultra rich velet cake, dripping with quadruple fudge chocolate and honey butter, while others whirl swings in hand that carry lethal (yeah right) honey buns and short cakes and buttered biscuits...

The crowds gathered on the battlements watch as the two swarming masses merge into one...

That's outright disturbing -- a mass food-fight with Richard Simmons clones. Ewww.

Stephen King wrote something about his view of his own efforts at macabre/shock writing. I believe he said he usually tries for terror, winds up with horror, but will occasionally settle for the gross-out.

You ..., um ..., went right to the gross-out with that one, didn't you?

 

If I am going to go for the gold - total gross out with humor and horror, why not do my best to craft the worst.

My story sounds completely TAME compaired to what I've just read. I'm feeling ashamed of it now.... Oh well, fortune favours the bold so I guess I've written it so may aswell take the plunge.

I have just finished my story, done one round of re-reading and editing. Going to bed now, will re-read tomorrow and do a final proof and edit then.

Hopefully be up sometime tomorrow night, MAYBE, all going well.
