It seems to me like I remember Ellen saying she was off for a few days, but she did say we should PM the links to her. Not to get nosy of course.

 

That's what she said to me earlier - I PM'd her to say I'd submitted, and she very kindly sent me a reminder to send her the link when it validates.

*Sighs* So, I did write a small chunk of my story.

But I've literally had no time to finish it. I can't explain to you guys how upset I am. I was SO psyched about this competition right from the start. This competition idea is what sparked my interested to start writing again..

And yet, I'm not going to be a part of it. I kind of feel like crying a little bit.

Actually, the deadline is May 1 [April 25 was the earliest date to submit], so give it a shot. Nothin' like a bit of self-imposed stress to get the creative juices flowing. At least I hope that works, since I've written only a small chunk of mine as well.

Best of luck and godspeed to all intrepid contestants - specially to the "amateurs" who are setting the proverbial pen to paper for the first time. While I have had fun with razzing JAT (and his six figure hit counts), and DC (and his six figure word counts), the newcomers are the ones who make this contest truly exciting.

I've noticed a lot of the new stories are contest entries, and I was delighted to see that several of them include some of my favorite tags. I'm going to hold off on reading them until ejls creates the poll(s) though, so that I keep in mind as I'm reading them that I'm supposed to pick out my favorite of the bunch. I'm really getting excited, although I'll probably be sick of that first paragraph by the time I'm done reading them.

But yes, I know the deadline is May 1st. I'm way too busy this week to finish by then. And even if I DO finish by May 1st, the story won't be up on the site for a few days afterward. :/

 

As long as you submit by May 1st - it'll be fine. I expect validation to take a few days.

DC and I were "amateurs" and "newcomers" once upon a time, too! Since that time long ago (2007 for me) newcomers have come along and often kicked our asses all over the place in the ratings! I can't speak for DC, but I for one am not "truly excited" about more newcomer stories.

P.S. Posted only in halfhearted jest.

 

If they kick my ass in the ratings because they write a better story than me, I have no problem with that. I've always said that I write the stories I would like to read but can't find, so if other people would write those stories, that's less work for me.
