Lyoya, 26, was shot and killed by 31-year-old Schurr during a traffic stop in Grand Rapids on April 4. Lyoya ran a short distance from Schurr before a struggle ensued.

Police who in the past have been caught repeatedly lying about Black people being armed and/or firing at them claim this Black man fired a gun at them during a high speed chase. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt that he did. But at the time they fired more than 90 shots at him stoking him 60 times he was unarmed.

And of course it begs the question why would 8 officers have to fire 90 shots to take one suspect down? And the answer is simple. Police don't get excuses to shoot unarmed Black people all that often so when they get their chance no one wants to miss out on the fun.

But there is actually a bigger public safety question here. If the police fired 90 shots and only hit their suspect 60 times where the fuck did the other 30 bullets go? They cannot be "responsible gun owners" if they don't know where their bullets go in a crowded city environment like that and have no business owning guns by responsible gun owner rules.

3News Investigates: 8 Akron police officers fired 90-plus shots during confrontation with fleeing motorist
Jayland Walker suffered more than 60 wounds, sources and autopsy records show

AKRON, Ohio — Autopsy records confirm that an unarmed Akron man was struck dozens of times by a barrage of more than 90 shots fired by police officers following a chase early Monday morning.

The volume of gunfire and extensive wounds have caused police and city officials to prepare for potential public backlash. The response is expected to only intensify when Akron Police release body camera footage in the coming days.

“Use of force cases are always ugly. This case is ugly times 10,” a police official familiar with the shooting told 3News Investigates. The official is not authorized to speak publicly about the shooting.

Using a public records law that provides access to autopsy documents, 3News Investigates viewed photos of Jayland Walker’s bullet-riddled body, along with the dozens of bullet fragments removed during the autopsy.

The final autopsy report has not yet been put in writing, Summit County Medical Examiner Dr. Lisa Kohler said. That report is expected to be released this week.

Walker’s death has been ruled a homicide, Kohler’s office said Wednesday.

However, the photos provided Wednesday confirm what police sources had previously told 3News Investigates: Eight officers fired more than 90 shots, causing more than 60 wounds to Walker’s body.

3News Investigates examined autopsy records, including about 150 photos of Walker’s wounds and about 60 photos of bullet fragments. A large majority of the wounds were to the front of Walker’s body. Wounds could be seen from his face down to his lower legs.

Some wounds were depicted on his back, but it is unclear if the marks are entrance or exit wounds.

Akron police say they attempted to stop Walker’s car just after midnight Monday for a traffic infraction and equipment issue. Walker instead led the officers on a high-speed chase down East Tallmadge Avenue toward State Route 8.

At some point, police say Walker fired a gun. Sources tell 3News Investigates that one casing was found in Walker’s car and a second was found on the roadway near Route 8.

The 4 1/2-minute chase took police south on Route 8 with speeds reaching about 80 mph at times, police said. Walker, 25, eventually jumped out of the car on Wilbeth Road near the Bridgestone Tire offices.

Police say they first deployed their tasers, but ultimately opened fire after they said Walker made motions that caused them to fear bodily harm. Eight officers unleashed a hail of gunfire that was captured on body cameras worn by the officers.

Sources say some of the last shots were fired while Walker’s body was on the pavement. Walker was on the ground dead when medical help arrived. Autopsy records show he was handcuffed after the shooting. He was not armed at the time he was shot, sources said.

A gun, however, was recovered inside Walker’s car, the same sources confirmed.

It is unclear why Walker fled police. He has no past criminal records aside from a speeding ticket.

The videos are expected to be released in the coming days. Police Chief Steven Mylett said he wants to meet with the Walker family and allow them to view the video before it is released to the public.

“The public is going to have legitimate questions and I’ve got questions,” Mylett said Wednesday.

Seven of the eight officers are white. Walker is Black.

Mylett has asked the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to lead the review of the officers’ conduct. It is the first time APD has asked for an outside agency to investigate an officer’s use of deadly force.

Walker’s family has yet to speak publicly about the shooting.

Mylett said the department is planning for a public response to the shooting. He said he hopes the public is patient.

“The public is going to see officers discharging their firearms and I know that is going to prompt a whole lot of questions,” Mylett said.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mylett and Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan released a joint statement about the shooting:

"We know that no police officer ever wants to discharge their service weapon in the line of duty. And anytime they must, it's a dark day for our city, for the families of those involved, as well as for the officers. Tragically, we are once again faced with a young man, with his life before him, gone too soon. Every single life is precious, and the loss of any life is absolutely devastating to our entire community. Our prayers are with Jayland Walker’s loved ones, and we offer our sincere condolences to all those who knew him. Our thoughts are also with our Akron police officers and their families.

"We want to reassure our citizens that more information will be coming in the following days, including the body-worn camera footage that recorded this incident. We are keeping our promise to the community, understanding that there can be no trust without transparency and follow-through on commitment.

"We have every confidence in the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation to conduct a thorough, fair, and honest investigation. We will cooperate fully with that investigation and have made it a top priority for our staffs. As a city, we are committed to this process and trust that it will yield a fuller understanding of this incident."

What I didn't see in the post above was...just less than 24 hrs prior to this, another local police dept was going to make the same identical traffic stop and he ran from them too...identical traffic stop....broken tail light and no illuminated license plate....the young man tested his luck one time too many.

    Wait for it.
We'll have to listen to the Monday Morning Quarterback crowd howling that a black man was killed for having a broken taillight and no light for his license plate. No matter that the guy was shot when he ran, fired at cops, and caused them to believe he was an immediate threat.
    Doesn't fit the agenda.

It appears that the general point of the news coverage is that Black young men are shot and killed by police at a far higher rate than White young men while trying to flee, eventhough they pose no threat to the police officer(s) and have not committed a dangerous, violent crime.

    Unarmed?
    Thats the standard now?

So if a minority is shot by police, even if armed and posing a threat thats newsworthy.

If its a white guy they should be unarmed before its newsworthy.

    Oh, well played.
    Fail, but well played.
You forgot the part that he was armed and did fire on police and did pose a threat when police shot him.
What was the problem. Didn't fit your agenda?

I'm happy to see that you'll wait for the investigation, @shootersa .
I hope the eight cops rendered medical aid after handcuffing the suspect. What do you do with for a guy shot 60 times, I wonder.

It really bothers you that they handcuffed someone who shot at the cops doesn't it?
Probably a good thing you have never worn the uniform.

Cops can even kill unarmed 12 year old Black children with impunity.

Cop Who Shot Tamir Rice Joins Police Force in Pennsylvania

The former Cleveland police officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice in 2014 has been sworn in at a police department in rural Pennsylvania, according to a local media report. Timothy Loehmann was sworn in to the Tioga Borough Police Department at a council meeting on Tuesday evening, local officials confirmed to the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. He will serve as the sole police officer in the borough with a population of 700. Tioga Borough Mayor David Wilcox was quoted telling the newspaper he had not seen the applications for the position and had no idea who Loehmann was when he swore him in. Loehmann was fired by the Cleveland Police Department after he fatally shot Rice in 2014 following an emergency call about someone waving around a “probably fake” gun. Video showed Loehmann arrive at the scene and hop out of the patrol car before firing at Rice, who had been playing with a toy gun. In the years since the shooting, Loehman, who was cleared of wrongdoing by a grand jury, has made numerous failed attempts to get back onto the police force, having unsuccessfully appealed his termination in Cleveland and then withdrawn an application with an Ohio police department following backlash.

So, american hater, in your mind the fact that a police officer shot a 12 year old disqualifies them from being a cop ever again?
And what the hell, lets pillory them because they shot a 12 year old.

No matter that the grand jury cleared Loehman of any wrongdoing, eh?
He shot a 12 year old and that's good enough for you.

Albuquerque police admit possibly killing innocent Black teen with flash bangs and 'irritants'

Albuquerque police have identified a boy who was killed in a fire after a local SWAT team used explosive "flash bangs" on a home.

In a press release on Sunday, police said that a deceased body was identified as 15-year-old Brett Rosenau.

Preliminary results of the autopsy indicated that Rosenau died of smoke inhalation Thursday morning. Some protesters had claimed that the teen had also been shot by the SWAT team but Albuquerque police said this was false.

The incident began on Wednesday night when police began searching for Qiaunt Kelley over a parole violation.

"Kelley fled from detectives and barricaded himself inside the home. A second individual, later identified as Rosenau, followed Kelley into the home," the statement explained. "Officers used a noise flash diversionary device to get Kelley to follow commands. But he retreated back into the home, shutting the door."

"The stand-off ended after officers noticed smoke coming from the house," the statement continued. "As fire fighters arrived, Kelley exited the residence with burn injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and later arrested and booked into jail overnight on his warrants. Rosenau was found deceased inside the home."

Albuquerque Fire Rescue is investigating the cause of the fire.

"APD Chief Medina has acknowledged the possibility that the devices used to introduce irritants into the home may have caused the fire," Albuquerque police noted. "Because the death occurred while police were taking a suspect into custody, a multi-agency task force is conducting a criminal investigation, and the results will be forwarded to the District Attorney for review."

There was no indication that officers involved in the death would be put on leave during the investigation.

Relatives have introduced a Go Fund Me page for Rosenau's funeral expenses.

'Horrific': Tennessee cops accused of giving Black man an 'animalistic' beating

Police in Oakland, Tennessee are being accused of deploying excessive force in their efforts to arrest 25-year-old resident Brandon Calloway.

Local news station WREG reports that police say they began pursuing Calloway after he allegedly ran a stop sign while driving in his car, and then refused to pull over for them.

Calloway eventually led the officers to his house, where he defiantly walked away while insisting that he did not run the stop sign.

After he went inside his house, officers kicked the door in and deployed tasers against him in an attempt to subdue him. When this failed to work, they then hit him repeatedly with batons.

He was then arrested and charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and speeding.

Attorney Andre Wharton, who is representing Calloway, said his client had to get multiple stitches in the wake of the beating, and that he now has limited visibility as a result of multiple blows to the face.

"Brandon was assaulted in a brutal fashion," he told WREG. "I describe it as animalistic. The pictures are horrific. He’s fortunate to be here to stand up and express through his presence here he wants to see some accountability."

Shelby County Commissioner and NAACP President Van Truner similarly said there was no justification for the level of force police used in making the arrest.

“Take our young black men into custody like you take other folks into custody, without one scratch, without harm and let them have their day in court,” he said.

Cops will beat the shit out of anyone resisting arrest. Race is irrelevant.

The thing here is the first cop is all but begging to be shot by this guy. But instead, he just follows along until his sergeant resolves the problem.
And yeah, the guy survived. And sued. and lost.
