Let me correct your statement. I've never said ALL Muslims are out to get us. I believe that many Muslims just want to live in peace and wish all this talk about jihad would go away. My problem is not with individual Muslims but with the Islamic Ideology which is a very threatening and dangerous ideology and which all thinking people must resist and oppose.

The problem with Muslim immigrants is that a small number of them can do an enormous amount of damage, and a much larger number of them are sympathetic to the terrorists, and will not inform on them.

Negroes have a much higher murder rate than Muslims, but they rarely kill more than one or two people at a time.

For those of you who don't know too much about the Crusades, here is a little information that may help you understand.

The Crusades started in or about 1095, but there were actually 3 Crusades spread out over about 300 years. The first Crusades stared when armies of Christians, from Western Europe, responded to Pope Urban II’s plea to go to war against Muslim to recapture the Holy Land from the Muslim invaders. Muslims and Christians had been at war for hundreds of years due to the ruthless and bloody Muslim invasion of Europe.

The idea of driving back the Muslim invasion was popular among European Christians and received a tremendous response from the military elite who later form a new class of knights called the Knights Templars. This Christian army also drew the support of ordinary citizens who wanted to take revenge on Muslims who had sacked their countries, slaughtered its men and taken most of the women and children as slaves. Since the mission of the Crusades was to recapture the Holy Land, it was determined that those who joined the armed pilgrimage would wear a cross as a symbol of the Church.

Many of today’s Muslims like to cry and pretend the Crusades were wars of aggression against them. However, they conveniently forget that Islam started in the tiny area of Mecca at the start of the 7th century, and quickly spread through invasion, conquest and forced conversions until its empire extended through North Africa, into Spain and southern France. That means that all Muslim Lands are conquered lands and subject to being retaken by the original occupants.

After the First Crusade achieved its goal with the capture of Jerusalem in 1099, the invading Christians reestablish several Christian states, and Muslims in the region vowed to wage holy war (jihad) to regain control over the region. Deteriorating relations between the Crusaders and their Christian allies, lead to the sack of Constantinople in 1204 during the Third Crusade. Near the end of the 13th century, the rising power of Egypt provided the final reckoning for the Crusaders when they lost their coastal stronghold of Acre and were later driven out.

    Hope that was helpful.

You forget to mention the Crusaders Rhineland massacres of Jews in Germany on their way to Jerusalem, or their wholesale pillaging and massacre of the inhabitants of Antioch and Jerusalem. Or that when Saladin retook Jerusalem, he provided the defeated Crusaders with armed escorts and safe conduct out of Jerusalem, even allowing them to keep their arms. Odd how anything positive about the Muslims gets left out, as well as anything negative about the Christians.

The Crusades are often mentioned by apologists for Muslims whenever someone mentions Islamic terrorism, honor killing, and the fact that a large number of Muslims favor the death penalty for Muslims who leave the Islamic faith. Those apologists say, "Oh yeah? What about the Crusades?"

The Crusades were provoked by the Muslims because Muslims interfered with Christian pilgrimages to Christian holy sites.

That the Saracen Horde overran western Europe through Spain, sacking, pillaging and raping all the way to Nice, France, might have been a wee little contributor to the Crusades as well.

Many people in the West, and yes virtually all of them are on the Left, look for reasons to hate Western civilization, while they make all kinds of excuses for the enemies of the West.

During the Cold War this made a certain amount of sense. Communist dictatorships violated liberal principles in practice, but Communist propaganda gave rhetorical support to liberal ideals.

With the Leftist willingness to make excuses for Muslims those on the Left - and this of course is not true of me - expose their hatred for Western civilization.

This is purblind. The Left was born in the West. It has been nurtured by Western traditions of tolerance.

Thanks for all of the posts about the Crusades. I'm also familiar with the basoc points of it history.
Look at the mild argument that sprung up here in just a few posts. Multiply that in the real world exponentially. My main point is that this conflict is not new, and many people on each culture have looong memories. While some people can get along, Christian and Muslim will always be at odds, especially in certain parts of the world.

A thought would be maybe to put the Christians & Muslims inside of a huge cage fighting cage and let them fight until some one is left. I think. Or work it out, or not.

      Mayling, Apr 19, 2016
    2. Hardrive
We would need a very large cage for that fight. There are more than 2 billion Christians in the world and a little less than 1.5 billion Muslims. Also, it would be a very unfair fight since most of the world's modern counties, with their modern armies and weapons are mainly Christian. Most Muslim counties fall into the third world category.

Your absolutely right, so we will have to disarm and disrobe everyone before putting them into the cage. I think. And yes your are also right in that it will have to be a very large cage, but I'm sure we can build it and once again be proud when we can say ''Made in the USA'' . :)

You know H.D. makes a excellent point, one must wonder where are the Martin Luther Kings of the moderates Muslim world. If my "people" were getting thrown off airplanes for merely speaking in Arabic, were being stereo typed as barbarians that slaughtered women and children, that raped both little girls AND boys I'd certainly rise up and fight for justice. I'd think the defense of my religion by the unwashed could only go so far, for it is not 1000 years ago. Not even 500 years ago. It is 2016, the dawn of true civilization, time to denounce barbaric behavior once and for all. Take to the streets world wide and take back our peaceful religion from the barbarians.

I just posted a quick outline of the causes of the Crusades. The 4 short paragraphs I posted were never intended to give a full account of everything that happened. Whole books have been written about the Crusades and anyone that is interested can go to the library and get educated.

My main point (which was not posted as a reply to anything you wrote.) was that Muslims and Muslim apologist always bring up the Crusades in an attempt to cast Muslims as victims. Muslims were the aggressors during their unprovoked invasion, plunder, slaughter, rape and enslavement of innocent European men, women and children. The Crusades were a counter attack by European Christians, and yes there were a lot of barbaric acts committed by both sides, however we must remember that there would never have been a Christian Crusade had it not been for the Muslim's barbaric attacks and forced conversions of European Christians.

It is irrelevant who fought whom a thousand years ago. Wars between ideologies have been fought down through the centuries, and military occupations have existed for as long as organised militias have existed.

Do we hold grudges against the Italians, who enslaved most of what was then the known world, or the Greeks for Alexander The Great who did mostly the same thing? Do we consider carpet-bombing Mongolia to get revenge for the acts of Genghis Khan? No, of course not, so why do the events of a millennium ago have any bearing on today's world.

Within living memory Britain and its Empire fought two brutal and bloody wars against Germany and its allies, and won on both occasions due to the assistance of the USA, yet we do not ostracise the Germans, rather we regard them as our allies now.

I agree that Islam needs to reform, it is an oppressive and discriminative dictum, much like Christianity was a thousand years ago. Islam denies both its adherents and its non-adherents basic human rights and freedoms, things which have been hard fought for over the centuries and are highly valued and cherished by those of us in the 'Western World', but to suggest that we 'wipe out' millions of innocent people simply because their ideologies differ from ours is ridiculous.

I am no Muslim apologeticist, I despise the idea of any portion of Sharia law being practised in any country that considers itself a democracy, and I hope that those countries which do enforce such brutal and restrictive practices can eventually be persuaded to soften their ideals, and perhaps one day they may bestow upon their citizens the same freedoms we take for granted, but we will not do that by force (excepting that the organised terrorist militias such as Daesh will have to be fought with all the conventional military might that we possess).

Fair comment, but by responding we are simply entrenching the continuation of disputes that are a thousand years old. Better we try to rise above it, and attempt to show the Islamic community across the world that freedom and democracy are better than oppression and servitude.

I can't believe what you're saying Jayney. Are you really suggesting that we ignore the brutal murder of innocent people by Islamic barbarians trying to impose their crazy ideology on us. How do you "rise above" that? How do you demonstrate that peace, freedom and democracy are better to a people who are guided by an ideology that tells them to kill anyone who opposes their goal of making the whole world Muslim? You can't contain or change an ideology that is totally implacable.

Time for moderate Muslims to rise up and say we are not going to take it anymore. Take to the streets and protest the CRIMINAL behaviors of "so called Muslims". We are tired of being portrayed as apologists for barbarians.

I agree with you that moderate Muslims are going to have to get involved but I don't think that taking to the streets is going to do it. If military attacks can't stop ISIS why would protest have any effect? Islam needs to be reformed. Moderates would do better if they called a conference to discus "The New Islam." This would demonstrate their desire to make much needed changes to Islam. I think they should start by considering the removal of Mohammed as the model that all Muslims should aspire to emulate and remove the warlord's verses from the Quran. Those reforms, by themselves will not stop ISIS but it will start Islam on a new course that will give hope to Muslims and provide an alternative to jihad as a means of attaining paradise.

A gay rights movement in the Muslim world is unthinkable. If there was a gay rights demonstration anywhere, the police would not have time to arrive and arrest the demonstrators. They would have been previously beaten to death by a howling mob of Muslims.

Why is what DL said wrong? Homosexuality is a crime punishable by death in Islamic countries. Muslims are allowed to take action to suppress Homosexuality. If there were a pro homosexual demonstration in an Islamic country, the consequences would be immediate. I thought everyone knew that.

Am I missing something? If I'm wrong, please correct me and tell me why I'm wrong.

      3. INDONESIA, pop: 200,000,000.

In Indonesia being gay has been legal since, well, forever. No, really, the country never had any legal prohibitions against homosexuality, at least since its founding as a nation. Further, the country has the longest running LGBT organizations in Asia. Despite having the largest Muslim population, Indonesia has remained a great example of the importance of the separation of religion and state.

I sometimes imagine myself sitting in a really comfortable chair on the moon and looking at the earth and finding it to be so small in the grand scheme of things. I hold my thumb out in front of me and close one eye and cannot see the earth anymore. I am amazed by the thought of what a tiny little place we really live in and about how many fucked up things are happening in it. I wonder if we were ever to all be friends and have no conflict what the world would be like or how different it would be . It would be pretty fucking boring. I think.

Even with the Great Recession people who live in Europe, the United States, and the British Commonwealth have a higher standard of living than we had two generations ago. Since 1900 we have experienced two world wars and a cold war that might have resulted in a nuclear war.

    Nevertheless, we are still here.
