You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

The 3.54 kilometer confirmed kill is 1065 meters past old record and was about 40% further.

The Canadian Armed Forces confirmed Thursday that a member of Joint Task Force 2 made the record-breaking shot, killing an Islamic State insurgent during an operation in Iraq within the last month.

“The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces,” said a military source. “Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn’t have a clue what was happening.”

    Simply put!
    No, I don't.
And did you mean what is commonly associated with US Marines "Oorah"?
This was a Canadian Special Forces.
First he'd be getting over the impacts of stress, to exhilaration, returning to a normal heartbeat, as well as the emotional impacts of the situation.

It was a joke on the whole "Canadians are so polite" trope where he says sorry even after shooting someone. Tis a yoke.

Doubt it. When one of our snipers was asked what he felt when he killed someone, he said, "Slight recoil"

It's an even better story. This sniper was being interviewed by a pushy liberal female reporter, and the slight recoil
comment completely flustered her. She did that fish out of water mouth movement. It was funny.

This was 2.2 miles! Almost unbelievable except it's been confirmed!
    LOL :)
We don't know his orders, but if there was an expectation for him to pull this off! NO PRESSURE, NO, NONE AT ALL! LOL

LOL. Just amazing. I know a guy that used to write for gun mags. He told me about shooting with both eyes open,
using one eye to gauge wind, and the other on the crosshairs. That's tough, but that's how they do it.

That's what the JTF2 does, they regulate funkiness and they don't bother taking names, they go straight to the kick ass part. They help keep Canada great and even US SEALS are impressed with these fighting machines and the two branches work together regularly and actually compliment each others varying attack strategies.

One thing I am betting is that this elite soldier will never have to pay for another drink ever again even if it is a long time before we learn his name ...

Well done dude and a nice piece of marksmanship. You and all your fellow warriors make Canada proud.

Things have changed on the modern battlefield. It used to be that the men that hunted and killed snipers had drinks bought for them. Being a sniper. That was just a dirty job that no one wanted and that didn't deserve anymore respect or recognition than any other soldier in the field. Sniping is all good till you're the one being sniped.

I don't know if there was an "atta boy" in that last post but the 550 million that American Sniper made in 2014 tells me that some like the idea of a specialist that stands above the crowd, BUT they will be the first ones to tell you that it is a team effort ...

Where the fuck is that military dude member when you need a little backup here LOL. :p:D:bag:

I am going to do something that I am well within my rights to do and it involves a long drawn out conversation with a member here but I haven't seen him today so will only post this part of our private conversation which is one of MY replies and it was long before this story made the headlines, I made it on June 12th.

Do I have "inside" information, YES and this guy is a fucking hero in that circle ...

Please someone do the math. How long after the shot hits until you hear the sound?

    1. View previous comments...
    2. slutwolf
      Simple
The speed of found is 353 meters per second.
      A kilometer in 2.91 seconds
      (in dry air)
      3.54 ÷ 2.91 = 1.216 seconds

subtract the time the buleet took to hit n kill target , and that's how long after he was hit , he could have heard the shot.

All you gotta do is find out the time laps from firing to strike
      (average speed of bullet)
      :)

I have no idea , but expect it may start with a muzzle velocity in the mid to high 4,000 feet per second , if not into 5 nowadays

Looks like they may have to take into account the
      Absolute firing range.

      seafoam1, Jun 24, 2017
    6. slutwolf
So it starts off at just over twice the speed of sound ,
      But
that of course , is only out of the barrel.
From then on it slows considerably.

Since the effective range is stated as
      1800 meters ,
and it apparently traveled 3,540m ,
      who knows :)
      complete guess , 7/10second
      *
Of course , if a bullet left the barrel at less than 1124 ft/sec ,
      there world be no bang.
(apparently black powder fire arms can have velocity down to about
      390ft/sec)

No, he was dead before the sound even got to where he was.
      He didn't hear anything.

Just a little trivia related to this:

The guy who held the previous Canadian record is named Rob Furlong and his record was at 2,430 m (2,657 yd) which is 120 m further than the previous record held by fellow Canuck Aaron Perry and both kills were part of Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan. Furlong's first shot missed the target and the second hit him in the back and the third shot was the kill.

Furlong left the Corp and became a police officer here in Edmonton and was subsequently fired for bullying and urinating on a fellow officer. He runs a sniper/marksmanship school here still ...

As was said earlier both used a Mcmillan Brothers TAC-50 with Hornady A-MAX 750 gr low drag rounds.

Perry was investigated by Canadian Forces personnel on allegations that he had desecrated a combatant's corpse by removing a finger, putting a cigarette in its mouth, and placing a sign reading "Fuck Terrorism" on its chest. The case was dropped for lack of evidence.

Both were awarded the Bronze Star by the US Army along with the other four snipers in the unit ... they are all from PPCLI here in Edmonton which is highly decorated by both Canadian and US military.

If they are doing it right you probably will never hear the shot over the sound of gurgling blood ...

Rounds travel at 1,800mph and sound travels at 760mph if that helps lol.

If you are standing around 4.3 miles down range you could theoretically catch the bullet without being killed lol.

A round fired straight up in the air would take just less than a minute to come back down ...

Oh ya, for you adventurous types, don't try to catch a bullet shot into the water without kevlar gloves, or go deeper and let it sink to you lol. I was stupid enough to try this last year on a dive in BC.

Sense of hearing is the last sense to die...generally about 30 minutes after death. So yes, you would hear the sound...as you lay there hearing
    your blood gurgle away.

There are so many variables , it may change every day , even if you knew all the figures.
bullet nose shape , tail shape , length ,
    coating ,
    spin ,
    supersonic , trans sonic ,
altitude , air density , humidity , wind direction

one example , fired level 5feet above ground level.
numbers for a .30 caliber rifle bullet fired at 2700 feet per second perfectly flat which is similar to the very popular 30.06 cartridge. It hit the ground about 450 yards out and was still going about 1600 feet per second.

so , in this , the velocity dropped from 2700 to 1600 in 450 yards (well less than 1/2 a km)
obviously not the most efficient bullet
    :)
if it even made over 3 km it'd be pretty slow , and how far would it have fallen ?
    over 20 feet
