  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

It was reported that it took 10 seconds for the round to reach the target.

Pretty amazing shooting, however, you view it.

A moab woulda been quicker. Snowbellies don't have much, so they have to rely on us and bullets. LOL

A good read on snipers is the Carlos Hathcock story. It's a dandy!!!

If I remember correctly from fifty years ago when I was in the Army the Max range of the 30-06 is about 3675 yards at least in theory if the barrel is about 45 degrees elevation.
But these guys are shooting the .50 cal BMG round which is a whole different kettle of fish.
30-06 bullet weight generally 150 grains muzzle velocity 2910 muzzle energy 2820 lb/ft
    .50 BMG 750 2820 13,241

Now these are just general numbers and there are other loadings, but are given to show the colossal difference between the two.

The optimum angle for a shot like this is approximately 33-35 degrees so this was a low percentage shot which far exceeded that angle to avoid shooting into the ground ahead of the target that ended with what appears to be complete success considering the amount of drop necessary to complete it . A shot well outside of my own ability but having made numerous low percentage CK's in the past I can attest to the difficulty of such a shot and my hat goes off to the team that executed this event and well done to those involved .
All I can say about this is HOOAH and remember that no or can't is not an option .

    Interesting.
At first glance , a round staying in flight for , 10 seconds or more , seemed amazing , like almost unbelievable.
So I did a bit of searching and calculating , to get a very crude likely travel time for a .50 calibre round.

    .50 cal M1122 sniper round.
    approximations.

    Supersonic out to 2_300m
starting at muzzle velocity about 2800fps 853mps
dropping down to about the speed of sound at 1125fps , 343mps

    crude average about 600mps
    giving 4 seconds out to 2,300 m

    leaving 1,150 m subsonic

    less than 343mps
but not less than 90mps ,
the terminal velocity of a .50 round.

so taking at least 3.35 seconds ,
    but by averaging ,
    possibly about 6+ seconds

Thereby giving a travel time of
approximately at least 7.35 seconds ,

    but theoretically probably 10+ seconds.

    and there you have it.

3 of the top 5 sniper shots are held by Canuckleheads and 2 of them were taken to protect allies from attack.

While serving with Task Force K-Bar, Vice Admiral Robert Stiles Harward Jr. also stated that the JTF2 team under his command was his first choice for any direct action.
