Just to be clear - and I'm sure this position would be sorely tested if I were 'in charge' - I am against the banning of anyone that actually participates in the community, regardless of what they type. This, of course, would exclude anything illegal that would get the site itself shut down, or pure spamming - which any reasonable person would not consider 'participation'.

So, believe it or not, and despite the amount of visceral entertainment it will inspire over the next 48 hours or so, I'm officially against the banning of DD.

I have mixed feelings on the issue, but I'm inclined to agree.

 

You know how I feel about banning people...My very liberal mind believes in "free speech for all."

To me this is a sad day.

A day when the dignity of the forum has fallen to a new low. A member who has spent two years posting in multiple forums without a real hitch, gets called out on GD for being outspoken and calling a foul when she thought she saw one. Her comments about moderator favoritism are somewhat valid, it is nigh on to impossible for any one (even a valued moderator) to be unbiased in the execution of their duties.

There was a public lynching in the forum over the last few days, a few very vocal people, includes a couple of moderators, saw fit to publicly vilify a member. Today the owner(?) of the forum also publicly questioned the member and demanded that she post evidence for the accusations that she made.

Since the evidence is only anecdotal, it would be difficult for anyone to come up with the hard evidence that nophest demanded.

The member was indeed a prolific poster, who's style of posting ruffled a lot of feathers. There were many heated and nasty discussions because of them. But, isn't this what the open forum here is supposed to be? If a poster continues to flaunt truthfulness or lacks the ability to clearly communicate their thoughts, should they be banned, or should they be ignored.

Tonight there are some smug members, they are chest thumping and throwing high fives because they WON. I sincerely hope that they are proud of themselves, for I certainly am not.

 

Oh, stop whining. I for one think that anyone who disrupts civil discussion as regularly as she did, is a nuisance that should be eliminated anyway. Sure, disagree all you want but don't flood the board in flames.

I'm generally opposed to banning someone based on their personal politics or ideals, but that's not what happened here.

And you keep calling some of us a "lynch mob". I get the suspicion that you've forgotten what a lynching looks like. If we're going to step our terminology up to that level, why not call DD a subversive terrorist threat to the civility of the boards while we're at it?

 

I guess you have a point... there were already threads. and if they were questioning the validity of the enforcers for this site then that couldn't be good.


The OP does seem straight enough, I guess. I don't know the situation but it seems to boil down to "bring me proof".
