Actually Nixon had a library built in his honor, so it just goes to show how much weight a scandal has on ones legacy. At least Trump had his own monuments before becoming POTUS.

What forced Nixon to resign was when the Supreme Court forced him to release his White House tapes and in one of the tapes Nixon's aides were discussing a plan to try and obstruct the Watergate investigation all Nixon said was "uh huh." And that single utterance was all it took to prove Nixon was personally involved it attempts to obstruct justice. And here we have Trump admitting he is trying to end the Flynn and Russia investigations in interviews, to the Russians, and constantly on twitter.

And another thing worth noting is just how many words and phrases are being used now to describe Trump and his White House. Such as cover up, follow the money, stonewalling, smo0pking gun, and one that is really jumping out since Trump and his lawyer have done it a couple times now; "denial, non-denial." And all of those became famous during the Watergate investigations.

Nixon harkens back to a simpler, more innocent time.

Nixon was never impeached by the House, much less convicted and ejected by the Senate.

He resigned in disgrace, because he it was "discovered" (leaked) that he was merely contemplating using the IRS to go after his political enemies. He never actually did this. He only contemplated it. Aloud. And was taped.

Obama actually DID exactly what Nixon only thought about doing. He used the IRS as a weapon against conservative charities and political action groups, in run up to the 2012 elections, which silenced voices, stifled contributions, and without a doubt helped to swing the second term general election.

And some of the very same crackerjack journalists who took down Nixon are now still in the media and much more powerful, yet they took a pass on the Obama IRS scandal. Lois Lerner took the Fifth with impunity, and not a single person has gone to jail for it.

 

You should know that nixon was ousted from the office after he tried to fire three more people investigation of him. Remember the watergate scandal? History is repeated again.

I do not "remember" the Watergate scandal, but the whole thing is chronicled in things called books.

 

I remember it and I dont remember it like she does but then she was not even born yet....
However it is a waste of time explaining it to her/him/it....

 

I didn't say Nixon was simple and innocent. I said he came from a more simple, innocent time in American history.

A time when, if a politician transgressed and was caught, he did the right thing and fell on his own sword.

Which Nixon did. By resigning.

And it was also a more simple, innocent time, because he resigned for merely INTENDING to do something that today's politicians actually DO, brazenly. As Obama did. Brazenly.

I watched a new documentary on All The President's Men last night. And it was absolutely uncanny how many things Nixon and Trump have in common and how much the Russian investigations are starting to look like Watergate. And I don't think they intended it that way. But the similarities just jumped out.
