    You're over-reacting... It won't be the electoral college that end conservatism... You're doing a good job of killing it be nominating Trump.

    Also, republicans only won the last two terms they did because of the electoral college... That in itself should be a warning showing that the republicans need to pick stronger candidates... As it standing, fewer than 20% of Americans voted for Trump.

    Doing away with the Electoral College is doing away with the Republic, for which we stand.

    Both parties have suggested ridding the country of the Electoral College election process, but only when their man/woman looses.

    What he said was that he would ''rather'' the country not have the electoral college, he never said that it ''should'' be done away with.

    Knowing that it is an 'unfair' advantage over the country, the prime reason why the Electoral College actually exists.

    The first US presidential election was in 1779.
    The 12th amendment that enacted the Electoral College was ratified in 1804 after the Constitutional Convention of 1789.
    That means that for about a decade there was not electoral college and that the people were the ones that made the choice about who represented them and not someone that was picked by people that may not have wanted the same things that they did. But it also said that if one person could not get the majority of electors then congress got the decision. I will take my chances with what the people want.

      States are given representatives ased on population.
      State establish congressional districts. Congressional districts elect representatives.

      Its worked as intended for over 100 years. Changing it just because you didn't like the outcome of two elections isn't much of a reason.

      Remember; we don't elect our president based on popular vote, but by the electoral college.

      By that criteria Trump won.

      Actually, you might want to rethink this. Congress is supposed to reflect the population, and prior to 1911, it was constantly changing the numbers of members in the house. But in 1911, that was the last time any changes were made to the numbers of representatives other than the brief period when Alaska and Hawaii became states. It has been a constant 435 representatives since then, despite the population of the country more than tripling since.

      The electoral college directly reflects the numbers of members in both the Senate and the house.

      And as far as the changes I want to see, I would be very happy if the electoral college actually reflected the population of the country, but that would actually require a change in Congress.

      Ain't gonna happen.

    Doing away with the electoral college is actually just a really good way to call attention to Republican voter suppression. But isn't going to happen because it would require a constitutional amendment.

    So what this is really doing is calling attention to a much simpler solution that is gaining momentum where states enter into a compact where all their electoral votes go to the candidate that has the most votes. Which means since they would represent more than 270 electoral votes the popular vote getter wins the election.
