Doctors and people from coast to coast are being refused a test even when they show symptoms of the virus. And the only ones trying to increase testing are the states while Trump and Pence sit around with their thumbs up their asses waiting to hear what Jared Kushner and his buddies have to say.

Friday afternoon PBS NewsHour White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor asked President Trump about shutting down that office.

His response was not just offensive and unpresidential, it was filled with lies.

“You said you don’t take responsibility [for slow response to coronavirus] but you did disband the White House Pandemic Office,” Alcindor asked President Trump. “So, what responsibility do you take to that? And the officials that worked in that office said that you — that the White House lost valuable time because that office was disbanded? What do you make of that?”

“Well, I just think it’s a nasty question,” Trump responded, weaponizing a word he regularly uses when speaking about women. “What we’ve done is — and Tony had said numerous times that we saved thousands of lives because of the quick closing. And when you say me, I didn’t do it. We have a group of people.”

“It’s your administration,” Alcindor reminded the president.

“I could ask, perhaps — my administration, but I could perhaps ask Tony about that, because I don’t know anything about it,” Trump claimed. “I mean, you say we did that. I don’t know anything about it.”

Trump's Google announcement raises questions

President Trump said Friday that Google is building a website to help people determine whether they need a test for COVID-19 and that "Google has 1700 engineers working on this right now." But Google said Verily, the life sciences unit of its parent company Alphabet, is "in the early stages of development" on such a tool.

Update: Google said in an updated statement Saturday it is helping with a national site, but it stressed the testing triage site is being done by sister company Verily, and they are aiming to start testing soon in the San Francisco Bay Area.

By the numbers: Verily has 1,000 employees in total. On Thursday Google/Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai sent out a call for volunteers from Google to help Verily with its COVID-19 project, and received 1700 offers.

What they're saying: "Google is helping to develop a website," Trump said. "It's going to be very quickly done, unlike Websites of the past — to determine if a test is warranted and to facilitate testing at a nearby, convenient location."

Google said in a tweet that workers at its Verily unit "are developing a tool to help triage individuals for COVID-19 testing."

"Verily is in the early stages of development, and planning to roll testing out in the Bay Area, with the hope of expanding more broadly over time," Google said in the tweet.

Google declined to comment beyond the tweet. It's not clear how many of the volunteers for the Verily project will end up actually contributing to it.

The big picture: Google has lots of employees in other parts of the company working on other virus-related issues.

It has been working with public health authorities across the globe to ensure authoritative information is displayed any time someone enters a virus-related search query.

And teams in search, advertising and YouTube are working to prevent misinformation and profiteering.

What's next: At the Friday press conference, Vice President Mike Pence promised more details and a launch date for the project by Sunday.

During a press conference addressing the growing coronavirus outbreak this Monday, President Trump tried to stress to a room full of reporters that the outbreak was so unexpected that no one knew about it a month ago.

“We have an invisible enemy. We have a problem a month ago nobody ever thought about,” Trump said. “It’s just so contagious — sort of record-setting type contagion.”

But as POLITICO’s Dan Diamond points out, it’s now almost two months to the day that Trump was warned about the impending pandemic.

CNN’s John Avlon on Tuesday said that coronavirus has finally broken President Donald Trump’s ability to lie his way out of a crisis.

During his latest “Reality Check” segment, Avlon explained how Trump’s usual approach to handling crises had completely failed in the face of a global pandemic.

“President Trump’s superpower is his reality distortion field — he can convince himself and many of his supporters that facts don’t matter,” Avlon said. “It turns out that his kryptonite is coronavirus. Because Trump’s four-step formula — deny, distract, deflect, and divide — doesn’t have any positive impact on this pandemic or the American people.”

He then noted that Trump’s somewhat more restrained performance at Monday’s press conference was a seeming acknowledgement that he can’t bluff his way out of the crisis as he bluffed his way out of getting impeached for trying to shake down the Ukrainian government to launch an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden.

“It is the belated realization he can’t hype his way out of the problem,” Avlon said. “The facts are bad and will get worse. That’s in large part because the test kits the president promised were available to anyone who wanted one were not available and still not widely available.”

Trump slapped with a furious backlash after insisting he always treated coronavirus ‘seriously’

President Donald Trump was asked about his sober tone during the Monday press briefing and he claimed that he’s always taken the coronavirus as a serious threat, an outright lie.

It was less than a month ago that Trump was blaming Democrats for coronavirus hysteria.

“The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” Trump said in North Carolina just three weeks ago. “One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.’ That did not work out too well. They could not do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. … They tried anything. … And this is their new hoax.”

His chief of the economic council, Larry Kudlow, called it “relatively contained.”

Senior aide Kellyanne Conway said the coronavirus “is being contained.”

And when speaking at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Trump said he would “like the numbers being where they are,” before praising himself for being as smart as the scientists.

Today, Trump told the nation he’s always taken it “seriously” and “I’ve always known this is a– real — pandemic.”
