This was obvious from the beginning of Trump's pivot from its a hoax to millions could die. They finally managed to convince Trump that tens of thousands of Americans could die because of his mentally ill response to COVID-19. So Trump tells everyone to go out and say 100.000 to 200,000 would die. And then if its less than that he can try to brag about all the lives he saved instead of the number of Americans he got killed.

Experts left baffled as White House refuses to explain the numbers behind their projected coronavirus death figure: report

When the White House projected this week that 100,000 to 240,000 would die from coronavirus, the leading disease experts whose research the White House relied on were baffled at how they came to the figure, the Washington Post reports.

Now, White House officials are refusing to release the data they used to generate the figure. Speaking to the Post, three White House officials familiar with the matter say there have been “fierce debates” inside the White House about the number’s accuracy.

At a task force meeting this week, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci said that there are too many variables at play for the numbers to be reliable. “I’ve looked at all the models,” he reportedly said. “I’ve spent a lot of time on the models. They don’t tell you anything. You can’t really rely upon models.”

Also voicing doubts about the number’s accuracy were Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and some in Vice President’s Mike Pence’s office.

Leading epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch said that the process of coming to the number seems to have been a rushed affair.

“They contacted us, I think, on a Tuesday a week ago, and asked for answers and feedback by Thursday, basically 24 hours,” he said. “My initial response was we can’t do it that fast. But we ended up providing them some numbers responding to very specific scenarios.”

Trump busted by own officials for lying about forcing GM to make desperately-needed ventilators as people die

According to a report by USA Today, Donald Trump was not telling the truth when he told the American public that he was forcing General Motors to start manufacturing desperately needed ventilators to save the lives of Americans with severe COVID-19 symptoms.

The report notes that one week ago, the president stated that he would use the powers contained in the Defense Production Act to compel the automaker to start retooling and make the medical devices, however three sources within his own administration, speaking on the condition of anonymity said that “the government is still exploring its options and has not yet placed an order under the Defense Production Act for any of the machines.”

According to one source the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “continues to work within its authorities to coordinate with the private sector,” when asked about the failure to begin production of the life-saving devices.

USA Today reports, “The revelation that the administration has not yet ordered ventilators under the Defense Production Act from GM comes as Trump Thursday announced a fresh request to Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar to use the act for several other companies, including General Electric, Hill-Rom Holdings, Medtronic, ResMed, Royal Philips, and Vyaire Medical.”

Appearing CNN on Friday morning, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio revealed that city hospitals likely only have enough ventilators available to get health workers through Sunday. Later in the morning, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced he was signing an executive order allowing the New York National Guard to confiscate ventilators and other much-needed health supplies from facilities state-wide that are not being used.

NYT: Nearly 40k flew to U.S. from China after Trump's coronavirus travel ban

Nearly 40,000 Americans and authorized travelers have come into the U.S. from China since President Trump imposed travel restrictions more than two months ago, the New York Times reports.

Why it matters: Trump has suggested that his action to ban foreigners from entering the U.S. if they were in China before early February has contributed to lower COVID-19 cases and fatalities in the U.S.

"I cut off China very early. And if I didn’t, we would have a chart that you wouldn’t believe," Trump said at a briefing on Friday, referring to White House models on where the virus has spread in the U.S. and how many deaths have occurred.

Details: 279 flights from China have arrived in the U.S. since Trump's travel restrictions were announced, "and screening procedures have been uneven," the Times notes.

Passengers arrived this past week from Beijing to California and New York under travel exemptions that exist for Americans and some others.

The big picture: At least 430,000 people have flown to the U.S. from China since Dec. 31, when China first informed the World Health Organization about cases of novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the Times reports.

Most passengers arrived in January at airports in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Newark, Chicago and Detroit.

"Thousands of them flew directly from Wuhan," the original epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, per the NYT.

‘Complete nonsense’: CNN’s Daniel Dale blows up Trump’s lie that California admitted to widespread voter fraud

On Wednesday’s edition of CNN’s “OutFront,” fact-checker Daniel Dale dismantled President Donald Trump’s claim, repeated at the day’s coronavirus press conference, that a lawsuit proved a million people voted illegally in California.

“He had a voter fraud commission that was disbanded without producing any such evidence,” Dale told anchor Erin Burnett. “This is complete nonsense … the specific lie was about a California settlement with a conservative group called Judicial Watch.”

“He said a million ballots or something like that,” said Burnett.

“Yeah, he said that settlement showed — it was California admitting that a million people had voted illegally. That’s not what that settlement said. That settlement was about more than a million inactive voters who were still on the rolls. It said nothing at all about any of those people actually voting illegally. They were basically dormant registrations that California agreed to get rid of. California made no admission about voter fraud at all. So this was completely inaccurate.”

Supporters turn on Trump for ‘flat-out lying’ about coronavirus: ‘He’s got no idea what the hell he’s doing’

President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis has been the breaking point for some of his fans in rural Virginia.

A dozen seafood and agricultural workers in the state’s Northern Neck peninsula — where Trump beat Hillary Clinton by nearly 10 points in 2016 — expressed frustration to the Insider website over the president’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“A few weeks ago I could ignore the parts of his personality I didn’t like,” said Cliff, a 25-year Chesapeake Bay waterman. “That’s over. I don’t believe anything he’s saying now.”

All of the sources asked to remain anonymous out of fear of backlash, but they were increasingly frustrated by a president whose actions they had already begun to doubt.

“He’s got no idea what the hell he’s doing, and I think he’s flat-out lying to everyone about how bad it really is, and how bad it’s going to get,” said Matt, an oysterman in his mid-40s.

Matt has always disagreed with Trump’s attacks on immigrants, some of whom he’s gotten to know on the job, but he said the president can’t necessarily count on his 2016 voters to stick with him.

“He thinks we’re all stupid and will show up for him no matter what,” he said. “At this point, I can’t imagine bringing myself to do that.”

Trump family loses bid to move marketing scam lawsuit to arbitration

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge in Manhattan rejected an effort by U.S. President Donald Trump and his adult children to send a lawsuit accusing them of exploiting their family name to promote a marketing scam into arbitration.

In a Wednesday night decision concerning the American Communications Network, U.S. District Judge Lorna Schofield accused the Trumps of acting unfairly by seeking arbitration after first obtaining "the benefits of litigating in federal court," including the dismissal of a racketeering claim.

"This conduct is both substantively prejudicial towards Plaintiffs and seeks to use the [Federal Arbitration Act] as a vehicle to manipulate the rules of procedure to Defendants' benefit and Plaintiffs' harm," Schofield wrote.

Defendants included Trump's adult children Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka, and an affiliate of the Trump Organization.

"The court erred, and while we are disappointed, we will take an immediate appeal," Joanna Hendon, a lawyer for the Trumps, said in an email.

In the October 2018 complaint, the Trumps were accused of misleading victims into becoming salespeople for ACN, a multi-level marketing company that charged $499 for a chance to sell videophones and other goods.

According to the plaintiffs, the Trump family conned them into thinking Donald Trump, who had yet to become president, believed their investments would pay off.

They said the real goal was for the Trumps to enrich themselves, including through the receipt of millions of dollars in secret payments from 2005 to 2015.

The Trumps have called the lawsuit politically motivated, and said Donald's Trump's endorsement of ACN was merely his opinion.

In rejecting arbitration, Schofield noted the plaintiffs' claim that they had no reason to believe their agreements to arbitrate with ACN also covered the Trumps.

Roberta Kaplan, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said in an email she looked forward to pursuing the proposed class action on behalf of her clients and "thousands of others like them who were defrauded by the Trumps."

Last July, Schofield said the plaintiffs could pursue state law claims of fraud, false advertising and unfair competition against the Trumps, despite dismissing the racketeering claim.

The case is Doe et al v Trump Corp et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 18-09936.

GOP governor busts Trump for lying about states not needing supplies: ‘The president was on the call’

Republican Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Sunday suggested that the president of the United States had not told the truth when he said that states have all the medical supplies that they need.

During an interview on ABC, host Martha Raddatz noted that Trump had recently downplayed the need for personal protective gear for health care workers.

“We’re in great shape with ventilators,” Trump said on Friday. “We’re in great shape with protective clothing. We have additional plane loads coming in but we’re not getting any calls from governors at this moment… We’re getting very few calls from governors or anybody else.”

Hogan said that Trump’s words were “not quite accurate.”

“I get calls from governors every single day,” Hogan replied. “We’ve had 12 calls now with every single governor in America, eight of which the president and/or vice president was on the call with us.”

“I had a call with the FEMA administrator just yesterday afternoon,” he continued. “I know there’s people in Washington working very hard to help the states but I think to say that everybody is completely happy and we have everything we need is not quite accurate.”

“I mean, everybody still has tremendous needs on personal protective equipment and ventilators and all of these things that you keep hearing about,” Hogan added.

Trump Falsely Claims He — Not Governors — Decides When Coronavirus Lockdowns End

As President Donald Trump railed against the “fake news media” again on Monday morning he falsely claimed singular authority over state governments in deciding when the country reopens from the coronavirus pandemic.

“For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government,” Trump said. “Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect. It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!”

Trump was responding to recent media analysis on how state and local officials, not the president, have the power to determine when their areas roll back social distancing guidelines. The president has repeatedly pushed for a swift return to normalcy throughout the pandemic, but as Reuters points out, individual states have taken the lead in mandating and enforcing anti-coronavirus policies.

The 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” As such, it’s quite questionable whether Trump has the power he claims to make states reopen their economies and force the country to resume normal functionality.

This being the case, loads of people responded to Trump with reminders about federalism and the concept of states’ rights.

President Donald Trump claimed he was unaware of how his signature came to be included on the coronavirus stimulus checks — a never-before addition to IRS payments to U.S. citizens — but that he wasn’t troubled by the fact that his name would be on the “big, fat, beautiful check” tens of millions of Americans will receive.

The possibility of Trump’s name being added to the mailed version of the $1,200 coronavirus relief payments — many payments won’t involve a printed check, but will instead be direct deposited in individual bank accounts — was reported not long after the $2 trillion Covid-19 stimulus package passed in early March. No president has ever had his signature included on Treasury payments or refunds before, as the actual legal signatory authority to issue federal funds is a Treasury civil servant.

On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that it was Trump himself who weeks ago privately suggested to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that his signature be added to the coronavirus stimulus checks being mailed to millions of Americans. But when confronted with this report on Wednesday, Trump merely offered up a non-denial denial about his role in this saga.

“Mr. President, why did you have your name added to these coronavirus relief checks?” ABC News’ Jon Karl asked, point blank.

“Well, I don’t know too much about it, but I understand my name is there,” Trump said, claiming ignorance about almost everything related to the checks — except the specific detail that adding his signature has not held up their delivery. “I don’t know where they’re going, how they’re going. I do understand it’s not delaying anything. And I’m satisfied with that.”

“I don’t imagine it’s a big deal,” Trump added, about an unprecedented inclusion of a president’s name on IRS check. “I’m sure people will be very happy to get a big, fat, beautiful check and my name on it.”

When Karl then tried to follow up, Trump quickly pointed at another reporter and moved on.

Finance journalist Tim Mullaney has expertly torn apart President Donald Trump’s claims that keeping America on lockdown will kill more people than COVID-19.

Writing in The Independent, Mullaney argues that the president simply has no concept of the mass death that’s been inflicted upon America over the last month, and he shows that his arguments about more people dying from suicide or domestic violence during the lockdown are completely specious.

*“Yesterday, coronavirus killed 2,763 Americans, according to Worldometer,” he writes. “On average, in the US 129 people take their lives each day — almost half using guns that are more lightly regulated in America than basically anywhere on earth. Domestic violence, as unacceptable and pervasive as it is, killed 2,237 in 2017.”

He then argues that the total number of recorded COVID-19 deaths over just the last month are even more shocking when compared to American deaths from past wars.
