LOL! How about policies that are not racist and intended to cause harm to those already in a dire way? How about not separating children from their parents?

How about forbidding any American company from selling weapons overseas? We caused a lot of the unrest that these people are fleeing because we help to arm those in power?

How about federally legalizing marijuana to eliminate one element that gives the cartels their power?

Rather than spending all that money in building a wall that won't work, how about we spend that money to provide for social services in helping these people become citizens?

I'm just riffing off a couple ideas here. But the bottom line here is that Donald Trump has done nothing to fix this problem, but only because he wants to use it as a campaign issue. No politician really wants to solve the issue because it is a hot button topic that easily inflames the passions of the base.

If we solved the issue of immigration, then we'd actually have to find other problems to solve! Let's stop kicking this can!

One thing they could do right is create a work permit program to allow undocumented immigrants to work legally.

And one thing they have never really done is actually punish businesses and individuals for hiring undocumented immigrants.

Shooters reform of immigration plan would include;
1) anyone here ILLEGALLY cannot work, cannot legally drive, cannot legally own or rent property.
2) Companies hiring ILLEGAL migrants face stiff penalties, including cancellation of business licenses for repeated violations. Use of E Verify is mandatory for all hires. Burden is on the employer.
3) Applications for citizenship/asylum are processed only at our embassies outside the country.
4) The process for application of citizenship should be transparent, clear, and easy to understand I.E. what crimes will disqualify from citizenship.
5) Migrants must have demonstratable skills or resources to support themselves and their families.
6) Must speak, read and write English at a 12th grade level
7) Those in the country ILLEGALLY are subject to deportation at any time, for any or no reason.
8) For those now in the country ILLEGALLY we need to quickly sort them out and either grant them citizenship or deport them. This should be a top priority.
9) Service in the US armed forces with an honorable discharge is sufficient to grant immediate citizenship .

CDC director: US has about 28,000 contact tracers, needs 100,000

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield told Congress on Tuesday that the United States has about 28,000 contact tracers, falling short of the 100,000 that are needed to track the spread of coronavirus.

Redfield said at a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing that the number of contact tracers has increased from around 6,000 in January to around 28,000 as of early June. But he said the country needs to "continue to increase in my view towards 100,000."

"That's going to be critical for what we're doing," he said.

Contact tracing often gets less attention than COVID-19 testing but experts say it is also an urgent priority to stem the spread of the disease.

Once a person tests positive for coronavirus, a contact tracer interviews them to find out who they have recently been in close contact with, and then calls those people to warn them of their exposure and encourage them to quarantine for 14 days to prevent further spread of the virus.

The federal government has distributed some funding, but states and localities are taking the lead in the effort to recruit contact tracers.

The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials is calling on Congress to provide $7.6 billion in new federal funding dedicated solely to contact tracing. The $25 billion Congress previously provided is for both testing and contact tracing.

The House Democrats' proposed next coronavirus response package includes a much higher sum, $75 billion, for testing and contact tracing.

Contact tracers have also encountered difficulty in reaching many people. Getting people to answer their phones is one issue.

Trump approval on handling of coronavirus hits new low: poll

President Trump’s approval rating for how he has responded to the coronavirus pandemic has dropped to its lowest level, according to a new poll that comes as new cases spike nationwide and the president has sparked criticism for suggesting COVID-19 testing should be slowed.

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, released Wednesday, found that only 37 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump has responded to the health crisis, the lowest percentage since the poll began asking the question in early March.

Of those surveyed, 58 percent of Americans responded that they disapproved of how Trump has reacted to the pandemic.

Trump sparked confusion over the weekend when he said during a rally that he asked staff to “slow down the testing, please.”

"Testing is a double-edged sword," Trump said in Tulsa, Okla. "We’ve tested now 25 million people. It’s probably 20 million people more than anybody else. Germany’s done a lot. South Korea’s done a lot."

The White House had said that his comments were meant as a joke but Trump on Tuesday appeared to undermine his own officials' explanation on the comments, saying he doesn’t “kid.”

“Let me make it clear. We have got the greatest testing program anywhere in the world. We test better than anybody in the world. Our tests are the best in the world and we have the most of them,” Trump said, adding that more tests allow the United States to detect more cases. “By having more cases it sounds bad, but actually what it is is finding more people.”

The U.S. has seen a spike in new coronavirus cases, a worrying sign for the country as a number of states move forward with plans to reopen their economies. The number of new cases nationally climbed above 30,000 per day over the weekend, after having leveled off at around 20,000 per day for weeks.

According to a database compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. has reported 2,347,102 confirmed cases and 121,225 deaths from COVID-19 as of Wednesday morning.

Senate Republicans have also warned that it is too soon to scale back testing, saying there’s no evidence the United States is ready to ease up on the number of daily tests until there is a vaccine.

According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, even Republicans have reached low confidence in Trump’s administration. Just 43 percent of GOP voters said they thought the country was headed in the “right direction,” the lowest recorded level since Trump took office in January 2017.

The survey also found that former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, leads Trump by 10 points among registered voters. The number is a slight dip from a 13-point lead in a similar poll last week.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online and polled 1,115 adults, including 503 Democrats and 408 Republicans, between June 22-23. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

On CNN Wednesday, in an interview with anchor Wolf Blitzer, former National Security Adviser John Bolton laid into President Donald Trump for his failure to immediately safeguard the United States from the coronavirus pandemic.

“You blame the president directly,” said Blitzer.

“I think that the evidence is unmistakable, that the experts early on in January at the CDC, the National Institutes of Health, at the National Security Council, were sounding the alarm,” said Bolton. “I think there was an empty chair in the Oval Office because the president did not want to hear bad news about Xi Jinping, his friend. He did not want to hear bad news about the cover-up of the virus in China or its potential effect on the China trade deal he wants so much. And he didn’t want to hear about the potential impact of a pandemic on the American economy and its effect on his re-election.”

“Turning a blind eye to all these early signs, I think, hampered the country’s ability to deal with this, and continues to do so,” added Bolton.

Dozens of Secret Service Officers Ordered to Quarantine After Trump’s Tulsa Rally

Dozens of Secret Service personnel have reportedly been ordered to quarantine in their homes for two weeks after providing protection at President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa earlier this week. The agents and officers have been advised to remain in their homes for 14 days to avoid spreading the new coronavirus. Six members of Trump’s team that arrived in Oklahoma ahead of the gathering, including two Secret Service members, tested positive for the virus, news that came to light hours before the rally took place. Two other staff members reportedly tested positive after the president returned to Washington, D.C. Public health officials, among them the doctors closest to Trump, had repeatedly advised him that the rally posed an increased risk of accelerating the speed of coronavirus transmission.

I think this is just obvious. Actually responding to COVID 19 is hard. And Trump can't really grasp the seriousness of the pandemic or grasp the consequences of his own actions. And so Trump just gives up on really doing anything about COVID 19 and goes back to his rallies for his own psychological needs. While cases of COVID 19 just set a new one day record.

Rachel Maddow: ‘The federal government is just abandoning ship’ on stopping the coronavirus

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow described the “dystopian” world that the United States has been thrust into as the federal government has decided they’re done dealing with the problem.

The United States just had the worst day on record for coronavirus cases, but President Donald Trump hasn’t met with the coronavirus task force in weeks. Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence told elected officials on Capitol Hill today that there were only a few counties in the country having spikes, which is false.

“If the federal government isn’t going work on this thing that killed 121,000 Americans in 16 weeks with no signs of stopping and we are breaking records all around the country — if the federal government is not going to work on it we will form new smaller subgroups of United States to try to work on it together since the federal government is just abandoning ship,” said Maddow, suggesting states are going to have to fend for themselves.

“So you have got the tri-state area that went through hell and high water and is coming out of it and has bent their curve all the way down,” she continued. “You see those states now banding together and say well we are going to try to protect ourselves from the states where this thing is out of control. Today in Virginia, for example, it looks like that’s going to be the first state in the country to issue their own statewide binding workplace safety rules for what companies have to do to keep workers safe from coronavirus in the workplace.”

She noted that it’s “weird” to see states trying to solve the crisis by themselves without the help of the U.S. government, which usually swoops in during national problems.

“This is the sort of thing that the federal government does, the Occupational Safety and Health Association — safety and health administration in the federal government is in charge of doing this,” said Maddow. “But in the Trump administration, they are just not. They are just not working on it at all. Since the federal government isn’t doing anything at all on that score while lots and lots of people are going back to work in the face of the threat of getting infected at work, well, yeah, states are going to have to start making up these rules themselves, for themselves. because the president has just decided that the federal government won’t do it.”

The failure of the federal government to address the coronavirus crisis will likely “start to pull the states apart from one another and to pit the states against each other in some ways,” Maddow predicted. “And if we have good leadership in the states, we can all hope and pray that the states will try to work together cooperatively and collectively to advance their mutual interests.”

“It’s at least all on a theme. You know? It is all dystopia,” Maddow lamented. “It’s all on a theme of how disastrously bad American governance, perhaps the worst American governance in the history of this country, how that manifests in terms of rule of law, in terms of health and safety of the people, in terms of the la-la land nonsense from the people who are supposed to be leading this country during this dark time.”

The state has been setting records for new cases every day, logging nearly 9,000 new cases and 13 percent positive cases on a day of record testing.

“They’re only reporting all these cases now so they can restrict reporting next week to make everyone think it’s over,” Jones said Tuesday.

She pointed out to WPEC-TV that the state does not count non-resident deaths when it reports coronavirus fatalities, while her database did.

“I do not separate those,” Jones said. “I feel like communities don’t really care what your state legal address is. If you were sick here, you died here, you died in a Florida hospital, you were going to the Florida grocery stores. That’s what they care about.”

DeSantis snapped at reporters when asked Thursday about Jones’ allegations.

“You guys have been on the conspiracy bandwagon for months,” DeSantis said. “You need to move on. You really do. It’s embarrassing at this point.”

DeSantis has faced months of criticism for not issuing statewide shutdown orders or mandating mask usage, and Florida’s outbreak is now spiraling out of control — and Jones claims the administration is concealing important health data like the number of intensive care unit beds were being used.

“If we don’t have any actual real grounding in how many ICU beds we have available in any given place,” Jones said, “we have no idea what our capacity is in our health care system to absorb an influx of very sick people.”

Jones said the Department of Health is planning to slow down the reporting of new cases next week to create a “bottleneck” and make it look like Florida is improving, so tourists will visit over the holiday weekend.

“The context that was added by an employee is that they are letting the number of real cases flow this week so that next week they can start to reduce the number of cases and make it look like Florida is over the hump, that we have hit the worst of it, it’s all downhill from here,” Jones told WPEC. “Come to Florida, celebrate July 4th weekend at whatever event or beach you want to vacation at and come one, come all. That is a very serious allegation, though for me at this point, not very shocking.”

White House knowingly allowed bad COVID-19 test kits to circulate, possibly affecting millions

In the first weeks of the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States, a shocking breakdown in quality control at the CDC’s central laboratory in Atlanta led to cross-contamination of test materials that made the first round of tests shipped out around the country worthless. Correcting the issue took more than a month, during which time COVID-19 was spreading across the country, undetected and unacknowledged by the White House, where Donald Trump continually assured the nation that all was well. As it became clear that the number of cases was far outrunning the available tests, the FDA used emergency authority to allow the use of alternative antibody tests that ultimately flooded in from more than 200 companies.

Now CBS News is reporting that not only where many of these tests flawed, but agencies knew they were flawed. But, eager to cover up the shortage of U. S. tests available, these tests were allowed to circulate, unchecked for 50 days. Meanwhile, state and county officials made decisions about how to handle social distancing and stay-at-home orders on the results of these tests. Cities used the test to find first responders and social workers had been exposed, and to test essential personnel. People made life and death decisions on the basis of tests that didn’t work — and the people who allowed those tests to circulate, knew it.
The story, which will appear Sunday evening on 60 Minutes, details how some cities detected the flawed tests on their own. Laredo, Texas purchased thousands of tests with the intention of setting up drive-through testing sites. Fortunately, before they did so, the city’s health director checked the tests against known samples and found their accuracy was only 20% — they were wrong far more often than they were right. Laredo’s testing plans were placed on hold, a delay that meant they couldn’t track the local progress of the epidemic or properly protect healthcare workers. But other cities had it worse because they trusted the tests. They used that information to open businesses, or close them, to allocate medical resources, and to decide how to handle everything from schools to hospitals.

In the case of Laredo, the worthless tests were reported. Officials from Homeland Security appeared, took the tests, and … there is no “and.” No apparent results came from reporting the tests, other that someone showed up to hide them. If there was any investigation of this test, or any other, it’s certainly not visible.

In addition to those local results, faulty tests — and faulty testing — had a tremendous impact on the public response. For example, in mid-April, conservative researchers associated with the Hoover Institute reported that rates of infection in California were dozens of times higher than expected, and that COVID-19 was actually much less dangerous than previously reported. The results of thee announcements immediately came under suspicion, but that hasn’t stopped these and other similar claims from circulating widely.

Even the 50 day free-for-all where the FDA allowed in tests without any consideration at all was far from the end of the problem. It took three months before the FDA began to pull the ineffective tests. In May, they began to require companies to submit data showing their tests were accurate—though it’s completely unclear how much scrutiny that data received. It’s possible that millions of people in the United States took tests that were either worthless—or worse than worthless. People receiving false-negative results may have unknowingly exposed others. People receiving false positives may have become infected after being given a false sense of safety.

Donald Trump and Mike Pence have been bragged on the response to COVID-19 as a “whole government effort.” That certainly seems to be the case. From the CDC that failed to produce sufficient tests, to the FDA that allowed an unchecked flood of inaccurate tests into the country, to Homeland Security that failed to follow up on investigations, it took everyone working together to screw up this completely.

Aside from that, I've seen and met the Fabulous Thunderbirds at a club in Texas. It was small indoor/outdoor club and they played along with the Marshall Tucker Band
who we also met. It was pretty cool in that it was a more like a jam session for the groups and they intermingled with the crowd, which was more like a Joe Biden crowd
than a concert crowd. There weren't many of us in the audience, so that was way cool. They're nice guys by the way. Most Texans are, unless you bash them.
