I honestly don't think Trump has handled the covid crises well and I am surprised at how he dismisses what health officials tell him. I especially don't like how he wants to force children to attend school on site even in places where the virus surges and without using the precautions laid forth by health officials.. I don't have much respect for that.
Don't take this as support for Uncle Joe. He's not anyone I wanna see as President.

Coronavirus deaths rise again amid mounting outbreaks

Coronavirus deaths are rising in hard-hit states and starting to tick back up nationally, a sign that mounting outbreaks are taking a serious toll.

Arizona, California, Texas and Florida all set record numbers of daily deaths in recent days. According to an analysis from the Harvard Global Health Institute, daily deaths over the past two weeks from the coronavirus are up 79 percent in Arizona, 37 percent in Florida and 52 percent in Texas.

The mounting deaths undercut President Trump’s effort to downplay the explosion of new cases by pointing to the death rate. Earlier this week, Trump had pointed to falling death counts to push back at criticism over his response to the crisis, given the rising case numbers.

Nationally, the number of deaths per day from the coronavirus has been falling for months. But that drop has largely been driven by the improving situation in the Northeast, which has outweighed the worsening situation in the South and Southwest. Deaths are also a lagging indicator, meaning it takes time for people to die from the disease, so rises in cases and hospitalizations will show up first.

Now, as the situation worsens in the hard-hit states, even the national number of deaths is starting to tick back up. Daily deaths hit their highest point since early June in the past three days, with 867 deaths reported Thursday, according to The COVID Tracking Project.

And while the case fatality rate in the United States is lower than in some major European countries, it is not the lowest in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Experts said that despite the efforts by some to downplay the severity of the outbreaks in the U.S., it should not be surprising that deaths are rising.

“It’s so crazy that we have to prove to people that sick people die,” said Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute.

There is still a hope that the daily deaths will not rise as high as they were at the peak in April, when more than 2,000 people per day were dying from the virus in the United States. That is in part because doctors are more experienced in treating the virus, and there are new treatments, including dexamethasone, a drug that a British clinical trial in June showed reduced deaths in seriously ill patients by one-third.

The new outbreaks are also concentrated more heavily in younger people, who are less likely to die from the virus. But some young people still can get seriously ill from the virus or even die, and they can also spread it to others who are more vulnerable.

Josh Michaud, associate director of global health policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation, said the increase in deaths in hard-hit states “is not something that is surprising.”

“It’s almost like gravity after you have an increase in cases,” he added. “It’s logical you would see an increase in deaths.”

A top White House health official, Deborah Birx, also acknowledged on Friday during a virtual conference that “increased mortality” is “expected as the disease continues to spread in some of our large metro areas.”

In Texas, which hit a record 105 deaths from the coronavirus on Thursday, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is sounding the alarm after previously resisting stricter measures. He issued a mandatory mask order earlier this month, a reversal after he previously sparred with localities that wanted to issue such orders.

“We have a short period of time here the next few weeks to try to bend the curve of this explosion of the number of cases, the number of hospitalizations and the number of deaths occurring because of COVID-19,” Abbott said Friday on KSAT in Texas.

He added that people complying with the mask order would help avoid the need for a new shutdown, which he said he hoped would not be necessary.

A looming risk, though, is that as hospitals show signs of strain in hard-hit areas, they could become overwhelmed enough that the quality of care declines, causing more deaths.

“If we don't change the trajectory, then I am within two weeks of having our hospitals overrun,” Austin, Texas, Mayor Steve Adler said on CNN on Sunday. “And in our ICUs, I could be 10 days away from that.”

Michaud, of the Kaiser Family Foundation, said that sort of situation could lead to even more deaths: “When you get to that point, then you start to worry about deaths that you might have been able to prevent had you not exceeded capacity.”

More than 300 people attended the GOP state convention, with few in attendance wearing face masks, as [recommended] by public health officials,” the State Journal reported Saturday.

Similar numbers were reported by Wisconsin Public Radio.

“The state GOP said 322 people attended the convention held indoors at the KI Convention Center. While the party offered free face masks to everyone, Wisconsin Public Television reported that only about a dozen attendees chose to wear one,” WPR reported. “U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Glenbeulah, gave the most forceful defense of President Trump at the convention, beginning his speech by yelling the president’s name so loudly that he momentarily lapsed into a coughing fit.”

Trump’s Former Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney Warns Republicans: ‘We Still Have a Testing Problem’ With COVID-19

Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s former acting chief of staff, warned Republicans on Monday that there is still a COVID-19 “testing problem” in the country.

“I know it isn’t popular to talk about in some Republican circles, but we still have a testing problem in this country. My son was tested recently; we had to wait 5 to 7 days for results. My daughter wanted to get tested before visiting her grandparents, but was told she didn’t qualify,” Mulvaney wrote in a CNBC op-ed. “That is simply inexcusable at this point in the pandemic.”

Earlier this year, however, Mulvaney appeared to downplay the risks of the virus by comparing it to the flu and accusing the media of extensively covering the spread of the virus to “bring down” President Donald Trump at a conservative event in February.

But in his Monday op-ed, Mulvaney *urged Congress to focus on “dealing” with the pandemic by directing money toward research, temporary hospital beds and therapeutics. He also said lawmakers need to “focus” on solving the problems of the pandemic, rather than focusing on the election.

“Put another way, the fact that people aren’t going on vacation probably has more to do with fear of getting sick than it does with their economic condition. Giving people a check, or some financial incentive to travel, won’t solve their problem. Make people feel safe to go back on an airplane or cruise ship, and they will of their own accord,” Mulvaney wrote. “Elections, despite what too many politicians think, cannot be bought. But problems can be solved. As lawmakers consider the next stimulus, let’s hope they focus on the latter.”

According to Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center, there are over 3.3 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 135,000 deaths in the United States.

The Sunbelt states buckling under COVID-19 have started making preparations for the worst to come: They’re ordering extra morgues.

The mobile, refrigerated morgue units are supplied by the Federal Emergency Management Agency or on the private market, giving hospitals and local public health departments extra capacity to store the dead.

Local news reports from Texas and Arizona say that officials and hospital chains have begun in recent weeks to order extra, mobile morgues. The reasons differ, but they either come as a response to death rates starting to overwhelm storage capacity for the dead or as local officials anticipate and prepare for the same.

FEMA told TPM that it is sending 14 “mortuary support units” to Texas in response to a July 11 request from the state’s department of emergency management. The units, a FEMA spokesperson said, “are in transit and should arrive at the state by early next week.”

Local officials in Texas have been agitating for the mobile morgues as death counts rise.

“I am now having to order additional body bags and morgue trailers. People have to understand how real it is,” Barbara Canales, Judge of Texas’s Nueces County, told a Corpus Christi TV station last week.

The orders mark the pandemic’s severity. After weeks of rising cases, followed by rising hospitalizations, hard-hit states’ death rates have also started to rise — a lagging indicator that reflects the time it takes to die of the virus and the stress that healthcare systems face in treating waves of patients.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego (D) mistakenly said last week that the city had maxed out on its morgue capacity.

She was wrong, but not by much: the Maricopa County medical examiner reported that, as of this past weekend, it had filled 96 percent of its morgue capacity and was seeking refrigerated trucks to store more of the deceased.

Since then, Maricopa County has reportedly moved to add room for 50 bodies. At the same time, Abrazo Health, an Arizona hospital chain, told a local news outlet on Tuesday that it had ordered extra refrigerated storage to handle the COVID-19 surge.

As with much of the rest of the pandemic, it’s not clear what role the federal government is playing in this. FEMA told TPM that neither Arizona nor Florida had filed official requests for morgues, as both face rising death rates.

The mobile morgues evoke the scenes of death that gripped health care facilities in New York City in late March and early April, where nearly every hospital had a FEMA-ordered refrigerated morgue trailer sitting outside.

FEMA told TPM that its agency followed policies consistent with the rest of the Trump administration’s response, in which the federal government steps back from coordination and leaves the states to address the crisis with piecemeal federal support.

“Consistent with the principles of locally executed, state managed and federally supported emergency response, FEMA Regional Response Coordination Centers work closely with their state, local, tribal and territorial counterparts to determine the type and level of support required to ensure mission success,” the spokesperson said.

In Texas, two counties have reportedly agreed to share the single, 50-body FEMA trailer that one was provided last month. Meanwhile, in Brownsville, Texas, county officials have said that they bought a large refrigerated trailer to store extra bodies as excess capacity, should COVID-19 get bad enough in the area.

Epidemiologists and modelers told TPM last week that the country would likely see hundreds of thousands more deaths this year.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican, announced on Wednesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 just weeks after attending President Donald Trump’s rally in Tulsa.

According to The Associated Press, Stitt has quarantined himself at home to prevent further spread.

Trump actually lives in a little bio plastic bubble where everyone around him gets tested constantly but you might have a point. Maybe Trump is too paranoid to take a test himself and could be a carrier.

But what I keep thinking is Trump is actually just asking for it. People all around him keep testing positive and yet he keeps going out into hot spots and exposing more of his staff and Secret Service. So it would be very easy for the virus to slip through. And since Trump is literally and clinically mentally ill he cannot really grasp the danger.

Instead he is trying to force the government and even the virus to conform to his delusions about COVID 19. Trump isn't just attacking Dr Fauci and the CDC. He is also trying to cripple them and keep them from getting their hands on the actual data. In what should scare the fuck out of everyone Trump has now ordered hospitals to stop reporting to the CDC and instead send all their numbers to a new data base under his control. And to make sure he gets the numbers he wants he has also ordered the National Guard to actually collect the data.

That is just straight out of a Banana Republic third world dictatorship with the latest projections saying we could have 220,000 COVID 19 deaths by November.

Trump literally does not give a fuck how many Americans die from his mental illness and delusions about getting re-elected.
