I'm with Pink on this. I come to this site to publish my attempts to entertain, receive critique and also to be entertained and that is the sole reason. I find it a shame that this community seems to have a self destructive element when bitching at each other. Such a shame.

Artistic differences allowed for, this constant bickering is distracting and saddening. There are some wonderful writers on here with fantastic productions of imagination, but rather too much time is spent taking the piss out of each other.

I have stayed out of the arguments so far being completely neutral. So, can I ask that we all bury the hatchet, (and not in each other) just get along and lose the sniping? Please?

 

Concur, the CAW is at hand and we should be writing and slamming our heads on walls and tables in frustration of writers-block...and then craft wonder as not seen before in the forum.

So, I checked your profile out before writing this reply, because if you were 22 vs. 62, you probably wouldn't understand some of what I'm going to say. At 62 (vs. my 52), we both have lived through certain things and should be able to relate.

I'm afraid that to me, this site is a microcosm of our planet. I do keep in mind that it's simply a website, not "real life" that affects me on a day-to-day basis, but still, I'm going to react as I would react in real life.

There's a man here who has simply gone off the rails. I know not why, but I do know that there have been others like him in history. You are familiar with Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin, the Italian fellow, Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein and I'm sure there are others. Now, our antagonist here doesn't kill people (that I know of) or doesn't perform genocide or even do acts that approach these villains. He does, however, subvert the good nature of what this place can be, and as such, in our microcosm, he is a villain.

You like to golf. So you're out on the links and you pull your 3 wood out and smack the ball straight and far. On another hole you send your ball lofting merrily onto the green with your 5 wood. Now you need your 4 wood, and you slice into the woods. Later on, you repeat and again slice into the woods with the 4. And again the following week, three times. And again the following week. Finally, you take the 4 wood and put it away in the garage, never to be trusted again.

That's where we're at with this guy. I say "we're" because it isn't just me, it's the community. We're tired of the lies, we're tired of the provocation, we're tired of it all. He's become an anathema. He's the kind of person who does deserve to be banned, because he no longer does any good, and just causes intense discord. Unfortunately, the rules of this site don't allow for banning for just being an asshole. They should. The admin should allow the Mods to have a chat about someone and then vote. They're here to keep the site functional, and useful, and people like this guy cause so much more trouble than he's worth.

You can't simply place him on Ignore because he'll always find an audience of new people to skew and rain bullshit upon. So, I like to think of myself as forming an "Old Guard" unit that has to keep a watchful eye out for rising tyrants. We both live in free countries, with free speech, but we both also know that there are still things that neither of us can say in public without getting imprisoned for saying them. It's because in a civilized world there are rules that keep us loosely conformed so anarchy doesn't rule.

Again, the above contains rhetoric and such, and without the historical context of this guy's posts and behavior, one might think I myself am playing with a deck of 47 cards. But I'm pretty sure that after a few years here, and a couple of thousand posts, and watching the devolution of this guy, I'm on stable ground and have plenty of witnesses.

So, no, unfortunately, we cannot simply walk away from this problem. Doesn't mean you personally need to become involved if you don't feel the need, and that's fine. Hopefully, many of us will get to writing for the next CAW and we'll soon see a new flood of quality stories, although it seems like there's a shitstorm exploding over in the CAW thread too now.

My point exactly. I find it a shame that harmony is discordant. I admit to not knowing who the perpetrator is and, to be perfectly honest, would prefer not to know the history. My comment was/is that I find it a shame. I think the term is trolling.

As for the four wood. That was banished to the "Naughty cupboard" a long time ago. Not so much a slice as, I just couldn't use it.

I appreciated your reply however and also believe that the shitstorm is indeed, brewing.

I will endeavor to stay out of the argument, but will monitor and decide if I want to post anything further here. I would not want anything I dredge up from my imagination to add fuel to the fire. I like the idea of an historical piece and have the bones of a story about Margaret Tudor already to go. I am not sure I will enter though.

I was thrilled to bits to have come second in the last CAW and thought that the competition was run very well and fairly. What I found disappointing were the post result comments about the majority of stories using the death card for added empathy. I refrained from entering into that particular debate, but did gnash my remaining teeth.

That should have read Margaret Beaufort nee Tudor. Have just checked on the latest on CAW SOP and will be chucking that story in the bin because the rules have squashed it.
