Oh sorry, i thought you were like the others, going on about how great 'American Football' is ect...i shouldn't have jumped to assumptions.

Thank you. I too think a game of skill is more exciting to watch then teams striving to be the hardest, by knocking ten kinds of crap out of each other; if i wanted to watch people beating the crap out of each other, then i would just watch boxing.

Also thank you for your kind words about my team, i wish for that too, but we will need to start acting like we want to win, as were getting beat by some very poor teams and again our consistency is not there.:(

I don't follow your game, however i will give my support to your team, so i hope you win in four weeks.

all of these games require strength speed stamina and skill in different proportions for the positions played in them. Whilst we all enjoy our chosen sport it is only an opion as to which one is better, each one appeals to different people. We dont all want to be the same do we? Ng, liverpool losing to poor teams grrrr lol
Football violence nearly ruined our national game, there is no place for it, sadly tf it is all based on truth.

I agree on some points, yes all of the games require speed, strength and stamina, however...football the 'real' football is not about beating the crap out of each other.."well apart from some very dirty tackles".
Its a game of skill, that i just can't see with the others. All i see is one man has the ball and the others will beat the crap out of him to obtain it, yet this is acceptable.

Oh i do agree that the world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same sports, the same things even.

My point in all of this is thread is to support my team and show my love for 'real' football, this is a football thread after all, and once again it seems to be dominated by 'American Football' debates..grrrr

Bunny, Liverpool have been losing to poor teams, after all we did lose to yours...lol But hopefully are win against Bolton, will make us wake up and realise we need to play every game with the skill, and determination that we have; that is Liverpool!!

    American football dominates the thread

because Americans dominate the forum. Canadian football is just a minor variation on Americat football. World Futbol, called soccer here, is probably America's favorite youth sport today, but it still has to catch on as a spectator sport among adults. I hope it will; I believe there is room for both sports in this country. I speak as a Pittsburgh Steeler fan and a former youth soccer coach, having coached some pretty bad teams outdoors, and a championship team in Arena Soccer.
Unless Australian football gets a broader base, it will never be competitive outside Oz.

Yeah, right, skill you say. American football is far more mental than soccer ever will be. Try reading defenses, calling the correct audible and then executing said play while a guy that weighs well over two hundred pounds tries to tear your head off. The comment about padding is a joke, without it there would be dead players weekly. Tougher than an NFL player, no athlete, unless you want to consider boxers or MMA fighters. Soccer more exciting than American football, I'd rather watch moss grow on a tree. To each their own, you keep watching your no contact soccer, I'll keep watching real men make spectacular catches, runs, and HITS! Now your fans are fun to watch when they riot and beat the shit out of each other.

Actually my football game of choice is Australian football, go and read the other football thread and you'll get a description of our unique game down here, it's a mixture of rugby, soccer and gaelic football with a couple of extra tweeks added....and sport is supposed to be a game of skill and not a death match.

As i wrote in the other thread it's relatively easy to catch a ball that's been thrown with a flat spiral, try catching that same ball that's been kicked from 60 yards away and is spinning end over end.

I used to watch American gridiron and know enough about it to know what's happening and sure it can be exciting, well except for the continous stops after each play to measure how far they've run. Like soccer Australian football flows without stopping to measure distances....and a good game for an American running back is 200 yards, well how about a good game for our main ball players is up to 9 miles each game.

Also unlike soccer our supporters don't have time to beat each other up as there's too much scoring going on over the 2 hour game.

i love football and i like american football a lot. personally i cant stand rugby as its too messy and often the play lacks a point to it. american football has padding and helmets for a reason. if rugby players played american football the way its played without the protective gear then there would not be very many rugger buggers walking off the field. its the way the ball is distributed and the forward pass dominance in the american version that makes it more exciting and dangerous than the wishy washy handling of a rugby ball. you very rarely see an american football of the same shape twirling and falling about the place so indiscriminately as you do on a rugby field. its slower in actual play and really quite dull to me.
i still prefer premiership football above all else but i think that american footballers would win at their own game and 'soccer' players would win at their own game every time.

liverpool firm never was in any football firm film as someone mentioned. that would be millwall and west ham i think you mean

Soo they'd get carded off the pitch if they played by their 'football rules' then, wouldn't they? But if they were playing ruggers, by the rules, then d'ohpe!!

nah its not that its just that rugger buggers would all just be generally larger framed big girls blouses compared to the australian footy guys who might actually have a chance of beating american footballers without the padding and still walking off the playing field

In the UK most people who play American Football also or have played Rugby, so I reckon they could beat each other, don't you? Just for a famous axample, Martin Johnson started out playing American football.

But this thread is about football, not aussie rules, rugby or gridiron.

Ahhh so they are 'real' men because, its a contact sport and there trying rip each others heads off, is that right??
Well that does not exactly sound like a skill, men do that everyday on the streets for nothing. For you to suggest that football hooligans rioting and fighting is the only time you enjoy our 'football' well then that speaks for itself. You like violent sports, try watching our rugby you will see people hurt in that, since they don't have any protective gear. You will see players get so hurt, that they come back on the field bandaged up, after they have just had stiches...i feel this might appeal to you.

Real football, is a game of skill....its about working as a team, striving a head to get the ball, tackling other players, using only your feet, no its not a contact sport as such, which makes it alot harder, then once getting that ball, trying to run with it, while the opposing team, comes in for the tackle at every given opportunity and to then take it past, up to 4 defenders and a goal keeper and score. Now that is real skill.

Personally my definition of a 'real man' as you put it, is one that can use his brain rather than his fists. So i believe that our footall players are much more 'real men' than any of your American Football players will ever be, but like you said it each to their own.

As you have pointed out this thread is about football, that is exactly how aussie rules is played by kicking goals with your feet, in our game you can't score a goal with your head or running the ball over the line. The ball has to leave your foot and not be touched.....hence, football

The game 'football' is more than just scoring goals with your feet, its about playing the majority of the game with the ball on the ground and kicking it. Our players do use their heads at time, but i'm sure you would agree it would be impossible for them to play using 'only' their heads for 90 minutes, not inculding stoppage time. Since the majority of our game is played using your feet, i think we qualify as what should be classed as football, looking at it from a logical perspective.

However having looking into your sport a little, just browsed really, as like to have a full understanding of what i'm debating. I can see that you do have to score goals with your feet, saying this you do also get to run with the ball and infact the ball only really touches the ground when you are trying to score. Even so i do believe you have more right to comment about your sport on here and call it football than people who support 'American Football'.
