Chris Wallace Grills Stephen Miller: There’s ‘No Question’ Trump Is ‘Stoking Racial Divisions’

Fox News’ Chris Wallace put Stephen Miller to the grindstone on Sunday when he pressed the White House senior policy adviser on President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks on Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley.

During the interview the two held on Fox News Sunday, Wallace presented Miller with a series of Trump’s most racially-charged remarks before asking “why shouldn’t someone see all of that as racist?” Miller responded that the racism label has been overused by Democrats to attack Republicans, but as he tried to spin away and talk about Trump’s accomplishments, Wallace continued to lock on the president’s policy positions, saying “that’s not protecting the American people, that is playing the race card.”

After Miller defended Trump from Wallace’s aggressive drill-down on the president’s birtherism, they eventually landed on Trump’s racist go-back-where-you-came-from tweets and the “send her back” chants at his most recent campaign rally. “The president was clear that he disagreed with [the chants],” Miller claimed, to which, Wallace countered “He was clear after the fact. He let it go one for 13 seconds and it was only when the chant diminished that he started talking again.”

“He said nothing there or in his tweet after the rally that indicated any concern about the chant.”

Miller proceeded to go after the squad after insisting that “the core issue” was that Trump’s supporters are “tired of being beat up, condescended to, looked down upon.” He especially went after Ocasio-Cortez for referring to migrant detention centers as concentration camps, calling it “a historical smear” and “a sinful comment” on her part.

Wallace eventually moved on by noting that Trump has accused “the squad” of hating America because of their criticisms for the country, and yet, Trump is on record doing the same thing multiple times before and after he became president. He asked “why is what those congresswomen have said any worse” than Trump’s comments, taking things further when Miller answered that the squad wants to “turn America into Venezuela.”

“People can have a legitimate difference of opinion about policies whether we want to go one way, we want to go another…The president says President Obama has been the most ignorant president in our history. When asked about Putin he said there are a lot of killers, there are a lot of killers, you think our country is so innocent? That’s not his view, that’s being sharply critical of the United States, as critical as the four members of ‘the squad’ have been.”

The tete-a-tete continued with Wallace saying “there’s no question that [Trump] is stoking racial divisions” with his comments, which Miller defended as part of Trump’s “America First” platform messaging. Wallace also challenged Miller over the White House’s recent attempt to bash Ocasio-Cortez by taking a quote of hers out of context.

‘Fox sure ain’t what it used to be’: Trump lashes out at conservative network for interviewing a Democrat

President Donald Trump attacked Fox News and personality Martha MacCallum on Tuesday.

Trump was angry about an interview with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who sits on both the House Judiciary Committee and Intelligence Committees that will be interviewing former special counsel Robert Mueller on Wednesday.

“Just watched Rep. Eric Swalwell be asked endless softball questions by Martha MacCallum on Fox News about the phony witch hunt,” Trump tweeted. “He was just forced out of the Democrat presidential primary because he polled at zero.”

“Fox sure ain’t what it used to be,” he complained. “Too bad!”

But he didn’t stay mad for long at the network ofter referred to as state media during the Trump administration.

“Oh well, we still have the great Sean Hannity who I hear has a really strong show tonight,” Trump tweeted, three minutes later.

Hannity has hyped that his show will focus on the questions that Republicans should ask Mueller.

Fox News legal analyst accuses ‘shameless’ Trump of unleashing ‘a torrent of hatred’ not seen in decades

Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano this week published a scathing editorial in which he called out President Donald Trump for promoting hatred and division in the United States.

In the editorial, Napolitano recalls the divisions created by the Vietnam War, and he says that the hatred being stoked by Trump rivals the turbulent late 1960s. Napolitano argues that Trump’s decision to tell four Democratic lawmakers to “go back” to their home countries despite being American citizens was a particularly divisive and racist comment.

“‘Go back’ is a rejection of the nation as a melting pot; a condemnation of one of America’s founding values – E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, one),” he writes. “It implicates a racial or nativist superiority: We were here before you; this is our land, not yours; get out. Nativist hatred is an implication of moral or even legal superiority that has no constitutional justification in American government.”

Napolitano goes on to say that Trump’s hate speech is protected by the Constitution — but he also fears that the president will not be constrained by traditional social mores that shame such speech.

“When the hate speech comes from a shameless president, we have a problem,” he said. “The problem is that presidential hatred produces division among people and destroys peaceful dialogue. When thousands of people at a Trump rally in North Carolina recently chanted, ‘Send her back’ referring to a congresswoman born in Somalia — and Trump tweeted that the four congresswomen (including three born in the U.S.) should ‘Go back’ to where they came from — the inescapable image was of a president trying to divide rather than unite.”

We have congressional representatives and even senators advocating violence and confrontation towards Trump and members of his administration. Showing incredible dissrespect for the President at every turn.

This is actually a measurement of how much more detached from reality Trump is. Fox News’ Shepard Smith this afternoon fired back at President Donald Trump after he blasted the network for their “terrible” polls.

The polling shows Joe Biden beating the president by 10%. As Smith put it, “Same spread as last month and outside the margin of error.”

“The Fox News poll did have President Trump losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton and the Fox News poll was accurate,” Smith said. “The final survey was done November 3-6 of that year. Among both registered and likely voters, the poll predicted Hillary Clinton would beat Trump by 4 percentage points… So Clinton would win the popular vote by a margin of between 1.5% and 6.5%. She did. Her margin of victory was 2.1%. Close to three million voters. The polls were accurate.”

Chris Wallace scorches Mick Mulvaney over Trump’s racist attacks: ‘The worst kind of racial stereotype’

White House acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney on Sunday insisted that President Donald Trump’s smears on non-white members of Congress have nothing to do with their race.

In an interview on Fox News, host Chris Wallace challenged Mulvaney on the president’s recent assertion that Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) represented a rat-infested district where no one would want to live.

“In fact median household income in the district is in the upper half nationally and Columbia, Maryland, which is part of the district, has been called the safest city in America. So what is the president talking about?”

"I think Maryland on a per capita basis the richest state in America yet you still see pictures on the internet of complete poverty in Baltimore, Maryland,” Mulvaney said, adding that the president attacked Cummings because of his “illegitimate” remarks about the border.

Wallace brought the conversation back to Trump’s attacks on members of “The Squad,” four congresswomen who have been critical of Trump.

“Nobody objects to the president defending his border policy but this seems to be the worst kind of racial stereotype,” Wallace said. “Racial stereotyping. Black congressman, majority black district. I mean, no human being would want to live there? Is he saying the people who live in Baltimore are not human beings?”

Mulvaney argued that Trump should not be called a racist for attacking members of The Squad because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has also had disagreements with them.

“You say it has zero to do with race,” Wallace pressed. “There is a clear pattern here.”

Wallace reminded Mulvaney that Trump had attacked Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and his “crime-infested” district before his inauguration.

“Then, two weeks ago he goes after these four members of ‘The squad,’ all women of color, and says they should go back to the crime-infested countries from which they come,” Wallace continued. “Then he talks about Elijah Cummings and he says his district is rat and rodent infested. It sounds like vermin. It sounds subhuman and these are all six members of Congress for people of color.”

“I think you’re spending way too much time reading between the lines,” Mulvaney replied.

“I’m not reading between the lines, I’m reading the lines,” Wallace shot back.

Fox News’ John Roberts is quick to highlight anti-Trump protester again after getting personally scolded by the president

President Donald Trump on Tuesday personally scolded Fox News reporter John Roberts, complaining that Fox News had covered a protester at his speech in Virginia. But the White House correspondent quickly brought the topic up again when he later appeared on air.

Appearing on Shepard Smith’s show, Roberts noted that a Virginia state legislator interrupted the president during his speech.

“We showed the protest, and you can see here the president had to stop while he was escorted out, at our 1:00 hour. As the president returned to the White House in the past hour, he took issue with the fact that we highlighted that protest,“ the Fox News reporter said.

“In my 1 o’clock report, we did not show anything from the president’s speech because we were focused in that report on the ongoing feud between the president and Congressman Elijah Cummings of Maryland and the fallout from that,” Roberts explained.

“It should be pointed out that in our 11:00 hour, the Fox News Channel carried that speech in its entirety. [The state legislator] was not the only person who was protesting the president. The Virginia legislative black caucus boycotted the event itself.”

The spat between Trump and Roberts comes as sources close to the president claim he is increasingly fearful that he will be abandoned by Fox News during the 2020 election.

Dem candidate riles Fox News host: El Paso shooter’s manifesto ‘could have come out of a Trump rally’

Democratic presidential candidate Tim Ryan argued to Fox News that the manifesto of a mass shooter in El Paso, Texas “could have come out of a Trump rally.”

Following the weekend mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ryan spoke to Fox News host Maria Bartiromo.

“Let’s get back to work in Washington, do the background check bill that we passed out of the house, we’ve got to ban these assault weapons,” Ryan said.

The presidential candidate asserted that President Donald Trump has helped to create the environment that encourages mass shootings.

“The president has to take a leadership role in this,” Ryan insisted. “He’s got to stop being so divisive. He’s got to stop tipping his hat to the white nationalists and sometimes overtly to where he’s talking to some crazy guy that drives 10 hours to shoot Mexicans. What the hell are we talking about here? This is insane.”

“Wait a minute,” Bartiromo interrupted. “You’re saying a lot of things there and the president obviously came out and offered his condolences.”

“The president has said many times he’s not against immigration,” the Fox News host stated. “He’s against illegal immigration. Are you saying that it’s the same thing, whether it’s illegal or legal immigration?”

“I’m saying I read the manifesto,” Ryan replied. “This person who committed the crime in El Paso wrote and it was all about Mexicans. It sounded like parts of it could have come out of a Trump rally. I mean honestly like this guy was going to kill Mexicans because of the environment that this president has created in this country.”

“He’s talking to people who get guns and drive 10 hours and go shoot Mexicans,” he added. “Its got to stop, Maria.”

Fox News Editor: ‘No Question’ Donald Trump ‘Exploits Racial Animus’ For Political Gain
“He knows how to do it and he does it very effectively,” said Chris Stirewalt, a politics editor for Fox News.

Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt said during a panel discussion about the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, that President Donald Trump is undoubtedly stoking racial divisions for his own political benefit.

Stirewalt, following a clip of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates accusing Trump of emboldening the El Paso gunman with his anti-immigrant rhetoric, said Trump does indeed exploit “racial animus,” noting the president’s attacks on several congressional Democrats as examples.

“Look, the reality here is pretty clear: There’s no question the president exploits racial animus for his political advantage going into 2020,” he told Fox News’ Shannon Bream on Monday’s “Special Report.” “He knows how to do it and he does it very effectively.”

Though Trump condemned white supremacy and bigotry in a speech from the White House on Monday, many Democrats have said he must do more, including toning down his own rhetoric and pushing for more substantial gun control legislation to be passed.

But Stirewalt suggested the president “ain’t gonna fix” the epidemic of gun violence and called on “individual Americans” to do so instead.

“The truth here is this isn’t about Donald Trump,” Stirewalt said. “It’s not about the presidency. It’s not about the federal government particularly. These are problems that have to be solved by individual Americans in their communities.”

“Our fixation, worship of or hatred of the presidency ― no president will fix this,” he continued. “Donald Trump ain’t gonna fix it. The reality is Americans together have to fix it themselves.”

Bream went on to suggest “the breakdown of the family” and other cultural institutions as a factor contributing to the rise of mass shootings.

Several other countries have passed strict gun control measures in the wake of mass shootings on their soil. Weeks after a gunman opened fire at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing dozens of people, the country’s Parliament voted to ban most semiautomatic and military-style weapons.

The U.S. has experienced dozens of mass shootings in recent years, yet Congress has passed little meaningful gun control legislation.

Trump during his speech Monday blamed mass shootings on video games, white supremacy and the internet. He cast little blame on guns or his own hateful rhetoric.
