I cannot even count the number of stand offs I had like this when I was in the newspaper business taking photographs or even just being present some places, There was always someone including police who would try to tell me I couldn't take photos or be in a public place or at a meeting of public officials. And I would have to state the legal reasons why they couldn't stop me. I would point out the number of lawsuits that proved that. And would often tell them to call their supervisors, county attorneys, and/or lawyers before they tried to have me removed. Which would usually settle it.

And the press absolutely do that. If it was up to public officials police or even individuals the press would get kicked out of everywhere. Because its kind of human nature to try and do things in secret and not get exposed by the press. And the press cannot allow that.

This one though is downright funny and should result in charges for calling in a false bomb threat.

Raw Story writer intimidated by Hannity producer

    UPDATE:

In response to the story, Fox News categorically denies all of what Laslo and Manríquez said. They told Raw Story in an email that the Capitol Police came to do a "sweep," and it was unannounced, and that the Fox crew didn't know anything about it. They say that it had nothing to do with Laslo taking photos of Hannity's event.

While at the U.S. Capitol last week, Sean Hannity's producer threatened Raw Story writer Matt Laslo.

Lalso explained that he was taking photos of Hannity's setup at the Capitol. The staff were preparing for a live shot. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) did a similar interview with Hannity in January when he first took over the Speakership. They set up in the historic Rayburn Room, which is between the House floor and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' leadership suite.

There was no incident in that case. This time around, however, a Hannity staffer was so infuriated by the photos she called the bomb squad. Laslo tweeted that it resulted in five members of law enforcement coming to block off the area, including one in a white shirt, which designates he was a member of the top brass in the Capitol Police. Two of the five were bomb squad members, said Laslo.

"Cause you took pictures of our space," the producer can be heard saying in the recording of her conversation with Laslo.

"Yeah, I took pictures in the Capitol of a public room," Laslo replied.

"I just need to know," she said, referring back to who he is and who he worked for. Laslo explained his other job is a media professor at Johns Hopkins University. "I'm a Wired magazine contributor."

    "Ok, thank you," she said.

"I'm constantly reporting on tech," said Laslo, giving her his card and saying he'd love to get her information.

"A Hannity producer confronted @MattLaslo about taking photos in a public area of the House of Representatives," revealed fellow reporter Pablo Manríquez, who watched the incident unfold. "Laslo told a Hannity producer (paraphrase) to go f--k themself."

"More so, invited her to take one of my courses…basically…" said Laslo in response.

That's when the Capitol Police showed up, Laslo posted on social media.

“Do you know how many thousands of dollars this Sean Hannity shoot is now going to cost taxpayers?” Manríquez later said, referring to the Fox crew demanding the aid of Capitol Police to keep away the non-Fox staff.

At the start of the interview, a member can be seen holding up his phone to take photos of the cameras directed on him. He was directly behind Hannity.

The news paper editor takes a moment to pat himself on the back as a tireless defender of free speech and the right of the people to know.
Course, he can't help but copy N paste a wrong story article that itself bloviates about wrong story.

And the greatest irony is that the editor has self promoted by quoting a full page article he posted earlier that apparently has nothing to do with nothing but does all but guarantee that no one will read the bloviation he's posted.
    Any of it.:p

And here again it is just obvious. To be a treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican Fox viewer you must suspend all disbelief. There is past. There is no future. You must not remember what Fox said yesterday. You must not notice the direct contradictions.. You must just believe what they say when they say it.

Fox & Friends Blast Governor Glenn Youngkin’s ‘Epic Failure’ in Virginia Election One Day After Going ALL IN On Him
    Colby HallNov 8th, 2023, 7:14 am

One day after featuring Governor Glenn Youngkin and co-hosting Tuesday’s show from Manassas, Virginia, Fox & Friends piled on following Tuesday’s election results.

“It was a big upset for the governor there,” Lawrence Jones opened the show reviewing Virginia’s election results. “Not only did he lose the house, but they were not able to flip the Senate. Let’s look at the map right here. You’ve got Democrats have 51 to the Republicans 47. And when you go over to the House, we switch. Okay. And then you’ve got 21 Democrats there in the Senate and then 17 Republicans in the Senate there. The big upset was one thing in particular when it comes to abortion. Republicans just weren’t able to rally.”

“What an epic failure by Governor Youngkin,” said Brian Kilmeade. “It’s a huge loss for him,” he added before pouring cold water on any idea that he might be a dark horse candidate for next year’s presidential race and “definitely 28.”

State-level election results are difficult to predict, and the results in Virginia perfectly exemplify that idea. And if there are any takeaways from yesterday’s results, it’s that Youngkin’s not yet ready for a national run, given his inability to convince any moderates or Democrats in Virginia.

The other big takeaway? Fox & Friends either can not rally Republican support like they thought, or their internal polling data that suggested a big Republican and Youngkin win in the Commonwealth of Virginia were way off.

Steve Doocy hosted parts of the show in Manassas and featured Virginia voters blasting Democrats and listing the issues they thought were surefire winners. It was nothing short of a GOP pep rally that featured an interview with Governor Youngkin, which was an earnest effort to move the political needle, alas, a failed one for Fox News.

'We've got an election': Maria Bartiromo urges Jim Jordan to impeach Joe Biden quickly

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday urged House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) to move forward quickly with an impeachment of President Joe Biden before he is re-elected.

"Tell us what your expectations are in terms of this investigation, and will it lead to an impeachment of Joe Biden?" Bartiromo asked Jordan during a Sunday interview.

"I believe we will get the depositions and the interviews done in this calendar year and then make a decision early next year whether there are actual evidence warrants going to articles of impeachment and moving to that stage of the investigation," Jordan replied.

Bartiromo suggested Biden should be impeached before he can participate in the 2024 presidential election.

"Well, the timing is important," she said. "We've got an election next year. President Trump is facing four indictments, and you've got this dereliction of duty."

Jordan responded by quoting Donald Trump.

"He said they come after him because he's fighting for us," he explained. "That is true. That's what the swamp does. They're going after President Trump because he kept his word, and he's fighting for us."

GOP Flips Democrat Seat Held For Decades (msn.com)
GOP Flips Democrat Seat Held For Decades
Story by Andrew Rodriguez • 18h

Republicans on Long Island, New York, achieved a historic victory as Ed Romaine became the first Republican to win the Suffolk County executive position in 20 years.

Romaine’s win gives Republicans control in the eastern part of Long Island, solidifying their dominance in Nassau and Suffolk counties as well as all four congressional seats.

“This is a political earthquake,” former Sen. Al D’Amato, (R-NY) stated.

“For the third year in a row, [Republicans] in New York had a great night, defeating incumbents and winning upset elections across the state,” New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox stated, emphasizing that Long Island is now a “Republican bastion.”

The victory is seen as part of a “red wave” attributed to rising crime and opposition to defunding police.

Former Fox News Reporter Claims He Was Fired For Calling Out False Coverage Of January 6th Attack On Capitol
    Ted Johnson
Mon, November 13, 2023 at 4:30 PM MST·5 min read

A former Fox News Capitol Hill reporter and producer sued the network, claiming that he was wrongfully terminated for speaking out about the network’s false coverage of the 2020 presidential election and the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

In a lawsuit filed in D.C. Superior Court, Jason Donner alleged that he was fired after complaining, in writing, to Fox News’ human resources department and to his supervisor, NuNu Japaridze. In the complaint, sent to them on May 24, 2022, Donner wrote that “Fox News has not supported its journalists since the January 6th attack on the Capitol. By allowing highly paid hosts and contributors to make factually false statements about that day is not only demoralizing but creates a hostile work environment. I barely watch our programming or read our website anymore because it’s hard to stomach these untruths being aired and written.” Donner had previously complained to supervisors about the Capitol siege, including when Tucker Carlson aired his documentary Patriot Purge, which made the claim that the attack on the Capitol was a false flag operation.

    More from Deadline

In the lawsuit, Donner’s attorneys wrote that in August, 2022, he met with HR for more than two hours over Zoom, and “complained about the false reporting by Tucker Carlson and the toxic environment
it breeds at Fox News, as well as the lack of support from the network for reporters.”

The month after that meeting, Donner called in sick because he was recovering from a Covid vaccine he had received. Japaridze called him the next day and “accused Donner of being irresponsible and challenged Donner’s work ethic, despite the fact that Donner worked past 9pm three nights in
the preceding week while ill from the COVID vaccine,” according to the lawsuit. She then hung up on him, according to the suit.

The next day, Donner was told that he was fired “because he was late for work and did not show up for work (presumably referring to September 26, 2022 when Donner called in sick). Donner asked for examples, and Boughton said, ‘we don’t need any.'”

His attorneys said that his firing was a pretext based on his political views and affiliation, and because he refused to report false information about the 2020 election and about January 6th.

“Ultimately, Fox News wanted to purge the news division of any staff that would not get in line with the directive to only report information that appease the Trump supporters and former President Trump,” the lawsuit claimed.

The Daily Beast first reported on Donner’s lawsuit, which came to light as Fox News attorneys sought to move the litigation to federal court in D.C.

A Fox News spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment.

Donner now works as senior adviser to Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA).

His lawsuit claims wrongful termination, as well as discrimination and retaliation under the D.C. Human Rights Act.

The lawsuit referenced Dominion Voting Systems’ litigation against the network, which was ultimately settled in April for $787.5 million.

One revelation from the Dominion lawsuit was what happened to Kristin Fisher, then a Fox News White House correspondent, after she fact checked a November, 2020, press conference given by Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, in which they made wild and unsubstantiated claims of election fraud. Fisher was told that she needed to do a better job of “respecting our audience.”

Donner’s attorneys wrote that he attended the Giuliani-Powell press conference, and tweeted, “At this press conference, Rudy Giuliani keeps claiming voter fraud in Philadelphia, but he said this to a Pennsylvania court: ‘This is not a fraud case.'”

Later that day, according to the lawsuit, Donner’s direct boss then, Anita Siegfriedt, told him that he was “not permitted to tweet his ‘opinions.'”

“This was unlike Siegfriedt as she always praised Donner’s work and never took issue with Donner’s reporting prior to this,” according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also recounted Donner’s experience at the Capitol on January 6th. He was in the Fox News booth above the Senate-Radio TV Gallery Studio. When the mob breached the Capitol barricades, he and others took refuge in the news booths. But the lawsuit stated that while “the U.S. Capitol was starting to be attacked, Fox News reported that the insurrectionists were ‘peaceful.’ Later that day, Martha MacCallum of Fox News stated during a live Fox News feed about these people, ‘When you hear their voices, you can understand why they were severely disappointed.’ This statement was made near the same time shots were fired outside the House Floor, tear gas deployed in the Ohio Clock Corridor, and rioters were present in the Senate Chamber.”

According to the lawsuit, when Donner heard that reporting, he called the Fox News control room and said, “I’m your Capitol Hill Producer inside the Capitol where tear gas is going off on the second floor in the Ohio Clock corridor, rioters are storming the building, reports of shots fired outside the House Chamber. I don’t want to hear any of this fucking shit on our air ever again because you’re gonna get us all killed.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages as well as other relief.

Laura Ingraham Scolds Republicans Over Schoolyard Antics: ‘Complete and Utter Embarrassment’
    Michael LucianoNov 14th, 2023, 8:10 pm

The congressional GOP had a day on Tuesday in which: a House Republican accused another House Republican of elbowing him in the kidney; the accused House Republican was hit with an ethics complaint by a different House Republican; yet another House Republican called another Republican a “pussy”; yet another House Republican told a Democrat during a hearing he looks like a Smurf; and, a Senate Republican stood up during a hearing to challenge a witness to a fight.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham was unimpressed with the shenanigans and called out the behavior on Tuesday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle.

“This is a Fox News alert,” she said. “We just got our hands on new video of what’s been going down on Capitol Hill.”

What followed was a clip of the fight scene from Mean Girls.

“Well, it’s not that far off from the truth,” the host said. “It’s getting pretty nasty up there.”

Ingraham recounted the details of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) allegedly elbowing Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) in the back, a month after Burchett voted to oust McCarthy from the speakership. The former speaker denied doing any such thing.

The host noted that in response, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) filed an ethics complaint against McCarthy over the allegation. Like Burchett, Gaetz also voted to remove McCarthy.

Up next was Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) taking Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) to task for voting to kill her motion to impeach the secretary of Homeland Security. She did so by quote-tweeting a tweet about Issa, doing so with a one-second clip of former President Donald Trump saying, “She said he’s a pussy.”

Quick aside: The broader context for that clip from 2016? Trump was holding a campaign rally where he repeated a comment from a woman in the crowd who called Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) “a pussy.”

Ingraham then moved on to Rep. James Comer (R-KY), who told Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), “You look like a Smurf.”

Finally, in the Senate, a long-brewing feud between Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Teamsters President Sean O’Brien came to a boiling point when Mullin stood up during a hearing to challenge O’Brien to a fight. The charade was stopped by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who reminded Mullin he is a U.S. senator.

“I never thought I’d say this, but Bernie Sanders seems to be the voice of reason here,” Ingraham said. “Everything you just saw was a complete and utter embarrassment. It shouldn’t be what is projected to our kids from our nation’s Capitol. Reminder to all of you, yeah, the children are watching. You’re supposed to be the adults in the room.”

Its so easy to be a stupid and ignorant Fox host pumping out really stupid and ignorant things to their viewers knowing they are too brainwashed to even think about it.

Just for the sake of argument let's pretend this is true for a moment. Which would mean China could not have found a bigger accomplice and partner than Trump. Because Trump did everything in his power to make sue COVID 19 spread as far and as fast as it could across the country and killed just as many Americans as possible. Trump admits himself all he did is lie about COVID 19 and did the opposite of what the scientists and health experts told him.

Maria Bartiromo Pushes Batty Theory China Released Covid-19 Into the World to ‘Get Donald Trump’
    Jennifer Bowers BahneyNov 20th, 2023, 12:37 pm
    270 comments

Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo floated a bonkers theory that China intentionally unleashed Covid-19 on the world to ensure Donald Trump’s ouster from the U.S. presidency.

“So, what do you think here happened?” Bartiromo asked Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), who leads the House investigation into the origins of Covid-19. “It was engineered, came out of the Wuhan lab, and then China tried to cover it up — that doesn’t tell me anything about whether or not it was intentional. I mean, is there a chance that China released this virus on America intentionally? Disrupt the country, get Donald Trump out, get your man in there, Joe Biden, and then cover it up?”

“Well, they certainly didn’t try to protect America, did they? I mean, so whether it was intentional or accidental, they seem to be aware of it,” Wenstrup said. “And I could be wrong on this: President XI was telling Donald Trump everything is okay. And Donald Trump was repeating what President XI said. Now Democrats call President Trump a liar, but it seems President Trump was just repeating what President XI said. Obviously it was more dangerous.

“So, not only was it killing Chinese, it was killing people all around the world. So, it’s not just America. Look, we also know, on the intelligence side, many of the things that China has been working on as far as bioweapons, and including bioweapons derived from coronaviruses,” Wenstrup added.

    “Wow!” Bartiromo exclaimed.

“So, we know that this has been going on. We have all these things to consider. This administration seems to want to ignore all of that, and we do not. And it also seems Democrats in general — I don’t get it. And I don’t understand why Dr. Fauci wouldn’t want to have the debate over whether this came from the lab or whether it came from nature.”

'Rich elitist snob': Former GOP lawmaker skewered for buying $114 turkey

Jason Chaffetz speaks at a House Oversight hearing (C-SPAN)

A national security attorney posted on social media Tuesday a fun turkey thought challenge for the holidays: “Tell me you’re a rich elitist snob too obnoxiously disconnected from the rest of America to get a simple Butterball without telling me you’re telling me your a rich elitist snob too obnoxiously disconnected from the rest of America to get a simple Butterball.”

The subject? Former U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), who took to the internet to share a photo of his $114, vegetarian-fed, minimally-processed gluten-free turkey.

While Chaffetz kept his X message short — “Happy Thanksgiving!” — the Fox News contributor went on air Monday night and blamed his high turkey price on the current U.S. President.

“It’s all a choice by Joe Biden,” Chaffetz declared. “That is what Bidenomics is.”

But critics of the former Utah Republican suggested it was Chaffetz’s choice to buy a massive 22-pound bird that weighed in at $4.99 per pound.

He bought a California turkey, vegetable fed, no hormones, no preservatives,” wrote Mark Santana. “Hell he bought a liberal turkey.”

“What kind of Turkey were you buying?” demanded Cheesy Gordita Brett. “The country?”

“I just paid $14 for a 16lb turkey,” added @BlueKansas63. “Was his made of gold or something?”

Some suggested Chaffetz purchased the priciest bird money could buy to justify his Fox News rant about a $90 bird.

“I think he lied, got caught, then intentionally went out to buy the most expensive Turkey he could find,” wrote Logan Davis. “Blowing by his $90 claim."

Others delighted in Chaffetz's choice to procure a beast that had been minimally processed and raised without antibiotics.

Responded DarAlderson, "Looks pretty WOKE if ya ask me."

'War on Thanksgiving': Fox News says talk about Native American genocide too 'depressing'

    Fox News/screen grab

Fox News personalities slammed liberals on Wednesday over calls to recognize the truth about the Thanksgiving holiday.

In a column for The Nation, Native American Chase Iron Eyes argued that the country should continue celebrating the holiday. But the column also said the day should include an acknowledgment of violence against indigenous people.

"The sanitized version of Thanksgiving neglects to mention the violence, land theft, and subsequent decimation of Indigenous populations," Iron Eyes wrote. "Needless to say, this causes tremendous distress to those of us who are still reeling from the trauma of these events to our communities."

On Wednesday, Fox News personalities Julie Banderas and Abby Hornacek complained about the column.

"This is just so ridiculous," Banderas said. "A truth-giving, first of all, you don't want truth at my Thanksgiving Day table."

ALSO READ: Enviro congressman's wife buys — then dumps — dozens of oil, energy and other stocks

"That's ridiculous," she continued. "Like that's the most depressing conversation to have at our Thanksgiving meal. Let's give thanks for what we do have."

Hornacek claimed liberals "want to be seen as the arbiters of truth."

"But the reality is, is you can address our nation's history, which is sometimes ugly, while also acknowledging the good things that come out of the way that we celebrate Thanksgiving today," she added. "The way that it brings families together who might only see each other once a year."

As the two discussed the subject, Fox News displayed a chyron calling the move to acknowledge history a "War on Thanksgiving."

Let's just talk about that the real war on Thanksgiving. Since most Americans have no idea because the history has been whitewashed and a myth invented.

    The Plymouth Thanksgiving Story

    THE REAL STORY OF THANKSGIVING

    by Susan Bates

Most of us associate the holiday with happy Pilgrims and Indians sitting down to a big feast. And that did happen – once.

The story began in 1614 when a band of English explorers sailed home to England with a ship full of Patuxet Indians bound for slavery. They left behind smallpox which virtually wiped out those who had escaped.
By the time the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts Bay they found only one living Patuxet Indian, a man named Squanto who had survived slavery in England and knew their language. He taught them to grow corn and to fish, and negotiated a peace treaty between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Nation. At the end of their first year, the Pilgrims held a great feast honoring Squanto and the Wampanoags.

But as word spread in England about the paradise to be found in the new world, religious zealots called Puritans began arriving by the boat load. Finding no fences around the land, they considered it to be in the public domain. Joined by other British settlers, they seized land, capturing strong young Natives for slaves and killing the rest. But the Pequot Nation had not agreed to the peace treaty Squanto had negotiated and they fought back. The Pequot War was one of the bloodiest Indian wars ever fought.

In 1637 near present day Groton, Connecticut, over 700 men, women and children of the Pequot Tribe had gathered for their annual Green Corn Festival which is our Thanksgiving celebration. In the predawn hours the sleeping Indians were surrounded by English and Dutch mercenaries who ordered them to come outside. Those who came out were shot or clubbed to death while the terrified women and children who huddled inside the longhouse were burned alive. The next day the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony declared “A Day Of Thanksgiving” because 700 unarmed men, women and children had been murdered.

Cheered by their “victory”, the brave colonists and their Indian allies attacked village after village. Women and children over 14 were sold into slavery while the rest were murdered. Boats loaded with a many as 500 slaves regularly left the ports of New England. Bounties were paid for Indian scalps to encourage as many deaths as possible.

Following an especially successful raid against the Pequot in what is now Stamford, Connecticut, the churches announced a second day of “thanksgiving” to celebrate victory over the heathen savages. During the feasting, the hacked off heads of Natives were kicked through the streets like soccer balls. Even the friendly Wampanoag did not escape the madness. Their chief was beheaded, and his head impaled on a pole in Plymouth, Massachusetts — where it remained on display for 24 years.

The killings became more and more frenzied, with days of thanksgiving feasts being held after each successful massacre. George Washington finally suggested that only one day of Thanksgiving per year be set aside instead of celebrating each and every massacre. Later Abraham Lincoln decreed Thanksgiving Day to be a legal national holiday during the Civil War — on the same day he ordered troops to march against the starving Sioux in Minnesota.

This story doesn’t have quite the same fuzzy feelings associated with it as the one where the Indians and Pilgrims are all sitting down together at the big feast. But we need to learn our true history so it won’t ever be repeated. Next Thanksgiving, when you gather with your loved ones to Thank God for all your blessings, think about those people who only wanted to live their lives and raise their families. They, also took time out to say “thank you” to Creator for all their blessings.

It is disgusting to me the way our true history has been whitewashed and romanticized with myths.

The truth really triggers treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans. They love their lies and myths.

But hey they were kind enough to give the Native Americans blankets.

Did Colonists Give Infected Blankets to Native Americans as Biological Warfare?
There’s evidence that British colonists in 18th-century America gave Native Americans smallpox-infected blankets at least once—but did it work?

North American colonists’ warfare against Native Americans often was horrifyingly brutal. But one method they appear to have used—perhaps just once—shocks even more than all the bloody slaughter: The gifting of blankets and linens contaminated with smallpox. The virus causes a disease that can inflict disfiguring scars, blindness and death. The tactic constitutes a crude form of biological warfare—but accounts of the colonists using it are actually scant.

Colonial weaponizing of smallpox against Native Americans was first reported by 19th-century historian Francis Parkman. Parkman came across correspondence in which Sir Jeffery Amherst, commander in chief of the British forces in North America in the early 1760s, discussed its use with Col. Henry Bouquet, a subordinate on the western frontier during the French and Indian War.

For all the outrage the account has stirred over the years, there’s only one clearly documented instance of a colonial attempt to spread smallpox during the war, and oddly, Amherst probably didn’t have anything to do with it. There’s also no clear historical verdict on whether the biological attack even worked.

Smallpox had spread at Fort Pitt.
Early American historian Elizabeth Fenn of the University of Colorado Boulder lays out her theory on what happened in her 2000 article in the Journal of American History. In the late spring of 1763, Delaware, Shawnee and Mingo warriors, inspired by Ottawa war leader Pontiac, laid siege to Fort Pitt, an outpost at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers in present-day downtown Pittsburgh.

The fort’s commander, Capt. Simeon Ecuyer, reported in a June 16 message to his superior, Philadelphia-based Col. Henry Bouquet, that the situation was dire, with local traders and colonists taking refuge inside the fort’s walls. Ecuyer wasn’t just afraid of his Native American adversaries. The fort’s hospital had patients with smallpox, and Ecuyer feared the disease might overwhelm the population inside the fort’s cramped confines.

Bouquet, in turn, passed along the news about smallpox inside Fort Pitt to his own superior, Amherst, in a June 23 letter. In Amherst’s July 7 response, he cold-bloodedly saw an opportunity in the disease outbreak. “Could it not be contrived to Send the Small Pox among those Disaffected Tribes of Indians? We must, on this occasion, Use Every Stratagem in our power to Reduce them.”

“We must, on this occasion, Use Every Stratagem in our power to Reduce them.”

On July 13, Bouquet, who at that point was traveling across Pennsylvania with British reinforcements for Fort Pitt, responded to Amherst, promising that he would try to spread the disease to the Native Americans via contaminated blankets, “taking care however not to get the disease myself.” That tactic seemed to please Amherst, who wrote back in approval on July 16, urging him to spread smallpox “as well as try Every other method that can serve to Extirpate this Execreble [sic] Race.”

What Amherst and Bouquet didn’t know was that somebody at Fort Pitt had already thought of trying to infect the Native Americans with smallpox—and had attempted to do it.

William Trent, a trader, land speculator and militia captain, wrote in his diary that on June 23, two Delaware emissaries had visited the fort, and asked to hold talks the next day. At that meeting, after the Native American diplomats had tried unsuccessfully to persuade the British to abandon Fort Pitt, they asked for provisions and liquor for their return. The British complied and also gave them gifts—two blankets and a handkerchief which had come from the smallpox ward. “I hope it will have the desired effect,” Trent wrote.
