Granddaughter goes to stay with her Grandma.
Mum puts daughter on plane to go stay with Grandma , sending along $300 with her.
Daughter comes home ,
with an invoice from Grandma for $450.

WTF

I guess there must be some issues between mum n granma

I'm interested how others feel about this.
Me. I was gobsmacked

 

That is pretty sad, yes should pay the way for your child but invoicing her makes it so business like and definitely not any hint of affection

 

Does it say what the $450 is for? Did the granddaughter cause damage to the house or vehicle? How old is the granddaughter? Did she run up a bill like long distance charges on a land line? Inquiring minds want to know.

DEAR AMY: I sent a check for $300 to my mother to cover my daughter’s expenses during her visit.

Upon my daughter’s return, my mother sent me an invoice for $475.50 for additional expenses, including the cost of gas to and from the airport to transport her (45 minutes away), train tickets to go to the city to a museum, and the cost of the museum admission. It was an itemized bill.

This is hurtful, as this past winter my mother came to live with us for four months and we paid for everything, including a nice vacation to an island over Christmas. (Neither of my siblings has a relationship with my mother because she is petty and doesn’t respect boundaries — like a $300 budget).


How do I address her behavior? I am hurt and angry by her decision to charge me for gas to pick up her granddaughter from the airport, as well as the other expenses.

My mother is a single woman (a retired college professor), and we have never asked her to pay for anything. We even write her a check for groceries when she hosts Thanksgiving dinner.

Now I feel she has taken advantage of my generosity and I don’t trust her to spend time with my daughter because it is just too costly for me (financially and emotionally).

DEAR BURNED: You are going to have to express your concern directly to your mother. Your daughter’s trip to see Grammy has cost you (I’m estimating) around $1,000, with plane tickets, plus the invoiced expenses incurred while she was there.

Is your mother financially insecure?

Is she worried about maintaining her own lifestyle in retirement?

These are legitimate concerns.

But is there a legitimate reason she couldn’t stay within the reasonable $300 budget, spending over twice that amount?

Is this itemized bill her passive-aggressive way of telling you that she doesn’t actually want to host your daughter for such a long visit?

After you communicate your questions and concerns to your mother, you will have to make the tough decision about future visits.

Because your mother seems to communicate through monetizing relationships, you’ll simply have to decide whether this relationship between grandmother and granddaughter is one you can afford to foster.

 

That's one way of making sure they don't try to pawn the kid off on her again.. *golf clap*

That's fucking sad.

 

I'd pay the bill and never speak to her again, but I'm sure there's more to it than we see here.

 

WTF! I'm thankful I don't have family like that. What a piece of shit. I will say that would be the last time my kid got to go to Grandma's after some bullshit like this. And if u think you can call me for help when ur in a jam think again, straight to voicemail.

 

I feel sorry for this family, I really do.

 

I guess its different where I live. There is a family who had two perfect kids and one wild child. But they treated all of them the same. And they all turned out fine and the grand kids came along. And then the wild child had one she named Hatty. Who was loud and quick and seemed to have a reach of about 18 feet. And mother was trying to keep up so none of grandma's keep sakes got busted. And Grandma looked at mother and said daughter when you get that one raised. You and I will be even.

 

It's Trumps fault.

 

She's a retired college professor, that reveals everything. You can almost be sure she is a leftist. Let's be honest here, have you ever gone out with a bunch of friends and one or two are tight as hell? It's always a liberal type. I speak from experience. Getting a lib to buy a round is like pulling teeth... When the bill comes they break out the calculator to figure their share.

 

Many families are fucked up in one way or another, hopefully the child can rise above it as she grows up, but she's probably doomed in that environment.

 

I need to go the other way. Here's an IOU grandma for making me chop and split wood. And I know I bitched about having to do it at the time. But damn now its the next best thing to cumming to see those chips flying into the sun and feel that power.

And I bet you are also seeing it too from the other side.

 

If I did this when my grandkids stayed over I would be a lot richer in money but poorer in family values .

 

If this happened to me , the kids woulda gone home with $300
