  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

I met him after his concert in Denver 51 years ago. I shook his hand and complimented him and he didn't say one word to me! Of course he put on a great show. He was the first guitarist to play a relic guitar as far as I know. I'm sure most Irish folks would vote to keep it there.

Never saw Rory live, got turned on to his music mid 70s, been a fan every since. Seeing him a lot in the media because of the sale of his guitars, his 61 strat went for over a million. It's a shame he didn't achieved the success equal to his talent. Most people still never heard of him.

I would never even think to manufacture a guitar from scratch - any more than I would manufacture a hammer or a wrench. There are reasons why I pay people to do my gardening or fix my car. If being a luthier is your thing, I fully endorse you!

I have always taken mine to experts for setup and modification. I forget his name, but back in the 80s there was this guy in Santa Monica who did all the guitar work for major bands when they were in town - the Stones and Joe Walsh are two I remember right now.

I had a fairly rare Gibson ES 335 - where the center block did not run the full length of the body. It was lighter (I had a bad back), but the unwanted feedback with distortion/overdrive was uncontrollable. This guy filled the body with Dacron and made nice covers for the f-holes.

This axe, which I used for most of my playing days, would catch feedback sustain with a simple turn to my amp, and he set up the action so sleek that playing it was total butter. He did maybe a better job on the Strat I bought next.

I started with a hand-me-down acoustic, bought a Telecaster, traded it for a Gibson L-6X (I called it my 'El Success') but traded that for my 335 and then went to my Strat. I'm not a collector, I just want well playing guitars.

I remember Steve Howe talking about stuffing foam rubber into the ES 175 he used to play back in the early Yes days.

I never heard of a 335 without a block running the full length of the body. Yeah, that would be a hell of a lot lighter and would sustain and feed to your heart's content. I have stuffed deep hollow bodies in the past when I want more overdrive and less feedback, particularly Gretschs. I'll give that a try on the project I've been working on.

This video tells what was sold and how much, on the auction of Rory Gallagher's guitars and equipment. The 1961 Fender Stratocaster was bought by live nation and plans on donating it to the National Museum of Ireland.
