If somone breaks into my house, there's going to be a shooting. I don't care if they are just stealing the silverware, or cereal killers. I'm not going to take that kind of risk and put myself at the mercy of somone who is already disturbed.

I know the feeling well and I do mean precisely.

But even though I tried to pattern that, and my children were raised in a house full of loaded guns, I've only known one man my whole life that was actually ready for what you claim and lived it. And the only way he could do it was there was a loaded gun everywhere. They were in the corners, guns were in his bed (never under the pillow) and a .38 pistol was ready to drop into his hand from under the table. And yes you can live like that, if you live alone and live in a two room log cabin.

But in all that time neither he nor I (who tried to live like that ever needed one of those guns.

And again I know exactly what you mean and lived it myself. And you are more than allowed to do that just as long as you never get careless or forget that gun. That's you're responsibility.

Its the same responsibility that eventually made me put my guns away. Damned if I didn't forget one in the car. My wife found it and I didn't even know where it was. Can't have that now can we?

The way I see it, is that it's not a problem with guns. Not a "gun problem". It's a people problem. Not everyone is sane, and even with all the interesting theories coming from neuroscience, we still can never really know what another person is thinking.

Ultimately, it comes down to who has control of the guns ? I don't trust government enough to allow it any more control and regulation. It doesn't matter to me how rare occurances are. As long as police and soldiers need guns, I believe so too does the civilian.

Here ya go. It's not the best picture,it was taken with my phone cam. It's a Springfield Armory 1911. Had this baby for 4 years. I had one before it, a Colt. It had the low profile sights. I decided it was time to upgrade and retire (sell) the Colt.

I received an old Colt Police special .32-20 from a family member that looks like the one in this picture. I don't know how old it is. I guess I'll take it into a gun shop and have them inspect it before I attempt to fire it. It looks very old.
