Ok this is a little late and I'm not taking side here but guns do have other uses than killing. Watch FPS Russia on YouTube. I saw him paint a sheet with a desert eagle. I also saw him shoot down a tree with a fifty cal. Then I saw him barbaque a pig with a flamethrower. See guns dont have to kill people. And I'm just throwin my two cents in. Don't put me down please.

Yea cause the Swiss tack on 10 years to murder charges, makes perfect sense as to why they don't go on killing spree's..

How about blaming culture ? Drug Prohibition and Generation "RX"... for starters...

    http://www.abc4.com/content/news/to...-lake-city-smiths/NDNrL1gxeE2rsRhrWCM9dQ.cspx

You're constantly thinking "He was a legal gun owner" and I'm thinking WHAT THE FUCK would have happened if there were 2 LEGAL GUN OWNERS in that theatre....

Oh yea... Remember that other Aurora shooting a couple months back ???

Oh you don't ??? Why ???? Cause a lawfully abiding "Good Guy" shot the bad guy before the killing spree in the church spread to anymore people....

I'm as liberal as they come... but when it comes to thinking that we should outright ban guns, I gotta say "Thats the dumbest fucking shit I've ever heard"

WHAT ON EARTH MAKES YOU THINK THIS GUY WAS GOING TO ABIDE BY LAWS OTHERWISE ??

He already made the choice to end peoples lives, he was going to get those guns whether he legally could or couldn't..

OH btw... Go ahead and tell everyone here what has happened to the crime rate in Kennesaw, Georgia since passing the "Mandatory Gun Ownership law"...

Believe from 82-2005 crime rate dropped 50%.... Sounds eeirly similar to that "Crime ridden, anarchy drivel, hell hole" called Switzerland...

nymphette you mut have been abused at one point to use some of the comments you have and if so he should be killed
i have over 7 years in the marines as a scout sniper and as a firearms training officer and i can tell you a sniper can hit 100 targets in the dark in 1 hour

but this is not about the guns its about one persons personal agenda of terror and death

he had chemicals that he could have easily used to kill all 71 and even more, he had bombs and other incindiary devices that could kill hundreds

i hunt to provide food for my family and also i target shoot and skeet shoot and for the record i am attention defficiet disorder so dont even claim that for a reason
1 person decided to do something and did it dont lay thay that on an entire community

back when i lived in dallas i saw a bunch of skinheads beat a man to death with thier boots.....do we ban footwear???????
some kid burned my house down last year with me sleeping inside to we ban fire?????????
ive had friends electricuted...................do you see where this goes???/
in my 7 years in the military i have had to shoot people and they wanted to shoot me
in my home life i have had to take 1 person that was an immidiate threat to my family
but in 30+ years i have never once fired a gun for any reason other than self defense

so cut the bullshit agenda and just admit that you are scared of what is actualy happening
you dont have any control and you are afraid

It's very simple, 60 million responsible gun owners did not kill anyone on the day that some nut job decided to go apeshit on a theater. That being said. If politics and govt didn't make it soo damn hard to get a Conceal Carry then maybe, just maybe someone in that theater could have dropped the guys before he hurt so many people.

Second, criminals and crazies don't give a rats ass about gun laws or bans. So disarming the generally peaceful law abiding citizen makes sense because a bunch of criminals disregard human life?

That's like punishing the entire class because little Johnny spoke without raising his hand.

Lastly, I was granted a sovereign right to keep and bear arms in defense of my family and property. To maintain militia should my govt get out of hand. To meet oppressors with opposable force should they invade my country.

Armed American Citizens created these freedoms. And Armed American Citizens will maintain them. Regardless of the UN or any other Gun Ban preaching moron that's to blinded to face the facts.

    Just my 2cents.

always blame something/someone else. it's never the person committing the act to be 100% at blame.

    excuses.

by the way i dont own a gun nor do any members of my family nor do i agree with the laws regarding guns in america but i get sick to death of the whole world trying to pass the buck/make pathetic excuses for what people do.

ban cars, they kill thousands every week. it's their fault. in fact ban the makers. ban the makers of the guns etc etc etc etc etc.

Baseball and cricket bats have been used as deadly weapons too. As have various forms of household cutlery, pry bars, wrenches, common boards and a variety of other wooden implements. The wepon isnt the issue. The issue stands that some people are cracked in the head. And no matter what you ban, these people will find a way to inflict casualties. We need to find a way to identify and help people who are profoundly mentaly ill and get them the treatment they need rather than just marginalizing them and waiting till they explode.

Nymphette2's arguments are beyond absurd. Just reading them has probably lowered my mental capacity to think logically. The fact of the matter is, guns don't kill, people do. Nothing more, aside from any possible, and rare, extenuating circumstances. And I'd like to reference her statement that you can't kill 12 people with an ax. Ever see the Patriot? Yeah, he did just what you said could not be done.

An obviously mentally incompetent gun owner has killed 12 people and grievously wounded 59 more. The man did that. Not the gun. A tool is not liable, I'm afraid.

Simply placing an outright ban on guns would lead to a revolution. An armed revolution. Here in America at least. And there would be no military to stop them, as, by their sworn oath to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States, they would not comply with and orders against legal gun ownership.

And come on, the argument that banning guns will stop all gin crime is just ridiculous. Look at Mexico, as before mentioned. Last I checked, 10's of thousands of innocent civilians have been killed in that "gun free" country.

In the United Kingdom the murder rate per 100,000 inhabitants is 1.23. In the United States it is 4.8.

In the United States many men derive a feeling of masculine identity from their ownership of guns. In civilized countries that is considered to be bizarre and repulsive.

Knife crime has rocketed in England among young people since handguns were made illegal. Also in the 10 years following the ban, crime using a gun, such as murder, armed robbery and muggings have risen 89%.

I'm not sure why European countries have less gun crime than the US, but it is not the gun restriction laws, as that has been EMPIRICALLY PROVEN. Maybe it is because the US government spends more than the rest of the world combined on a military that is more effective at killing than any nation in Human history. Maybe it is because some states execute prisoners for their crimes, implying that murder is 'okay' if you think someone deserves it. Or maybe it is because the majority of the police carry guns.

However, the main difference is domestic killings in the UK are usually stabbings/beatings or someone being bludgeoned to death as most households don't have a gun knocking about. Where as alterations with a neighbour etc in the USA are often addressed with a firearm.

Also suicides in the UK are usually drug overdoses, hangings and cutting wrists, where as in the US about 50% are people shooting themselves.

Did anyone watch the video I posted?

In tragedies such as these people are always quick to jump looking for people to blame. Be it liberals blaming gun laws, conservatives blaming rap music and violent video games. Christians blaming atheists, atheists blaming Muslims, Muslims blaming Jews.

There is one person to blame here, it was the person with a screw loose that decided to massacre those people. If guns were illegal, no doubt he would have still been able to get them, and if not, the guy could have gassed the people, he could have blew them up, he could have torched the building. There are plenty of ways he could have killed scores without firearms.

Murder rate doesn't tell the full picture. There is more crime that involves firearms than murder. The murder rate in the UK has always been a lot lower than in the US, long before firearm restrictions came into play.

Also to give you an example statistic: The number of people injured or killed by guns, excluding air weapons, has increased from 864 in 1998/99 to a figure of 1,760 in 2008/09, an increase of 104 per cent. Clearly banning handguns has had no effect. Only those that abide by the law lose out

I assume that what you say is correct, but your statistics would be more credible if you documented them.

Over the years I have become an agnostic on the question of gun control. This is a highly emotional issue, and emotions cloud reality perceptions. I am in favor of gun control laws that reduce the crime rate. I am opposed to gun control laws that make it difficult for people to defend themselves from criminals. I acknowledge that the difference between these laws is often difficult to determine.

I cannot post a survey to substantiate this, but I suspect that civilized people in civilized countries think the United States is a violent, vulgar uncouth country run for the rich with the enthusiastic support of a white proletariat that is too stupid, too ignorant, and too bigoted to realize that by opposing government spending programs - like universal health care - that benefit blacks they are also opposing government spending programs that will benefit them.

The American love affair with the gun is a graphic illustration of how much America needs to evolve.
