I have become disenchanted with the results of the civil rights movement. Nevertheless, I think Dr. King's "I have a dream" speech is one of the best speeches in the English language.

I love this tune and I am often dancing to it

 

MLK jr., is one of many great figures of the US who championed civil rights for oppressed people his untimely death at the hands of an extremist, lionized him. Would he have been so treated if he had not been murdered, but had lived out his days in peace?

Sometimes fools destroy themselves and their causes, by blindly following a flawed doctrine.

 

I believe so, yes, it was the power of his words and his acomplishments in life not his death which defined Dr. King. He was a figurehead for the civil rights movement. I admit to not being overly familiar with all of the detail but I think it's similar to Nelson Mandela in the sense that he was a powerful figurehead for change.

 

I find it pretty hilarious we honor him by having sales now. There was actually a circular in my paper that said "We celebrate and honor one of history's greatest leaders" as if he was going to shop there or something. Had to do a double-take.

But yes, he and Malcolm X were easily among the greatest figures we have ever had in this country.

 

I am going to get a blow job to celebrate the day.

 

The one lasting effect of Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights movement is that it attached a stigma to racism and racists. There was a time when racism was considered an acceptable political stand. After all, segregation was enforced by law in a lot of places. Once the Civil Rights movement forced the government to recognize "that all men were created equal," racists were no longer good Americans.

That's the stigma. The good Americans, those who actually believe the tenets upon which the nation was founded, look down on racists, as some kind of mental defective, driven by psychological insecurities, combined with a mean streak. The fear and insecurity which fueled racism, made these people easy to manipulate by unscrupulous, maybe sociopathic leaders.
Part of this change was effected by the violence of racists who were trying to preserve the status quo. As laws changed, they attempted maintain their presumed superiority through intimidation and murder. In my living memory, three young men were kidnapped, murdered, and buried in a dam. It seems strange today that anyone would think a Death Squad could operate in America with impunity, but they thought they could get away with it. They practically did, but their actions demonstrated to the nation what racism is, and what is required to maintain racism in a supposedly free country.

As a result of the stigma of racism, our domestic racists have had to encode their message. Instead of "Segregation Forever", they say, "Make America Great Again," remembering when they were considered "good Americans" by the rest of us.

 

So now, make america great again is racist. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!!

 

I don't know about racist but it's definitely elitist.

 

Expressing the desire to make your country better than it was...is first racist...and now elitist. God damn y'all are a piece of work.

How has it ever been about making the country better than it was? It's about "going back to the good ol' days", which for Trump means the 80s-90s.

Gotta check Boeing stock. My financial adviser bought me Boeing some years ago. He did that because the only way to refuel stealth bombers was with a KC-135
which totally blew their stealth. Boeing is building a stealth refueling plane soon to be introduced.

Well thank God for the Republicans voting for the Civil Rights bill of 1064 and getting it passed. Cause the DemocRATS weren't to keen on the idea. Ya'll go back and check on who voted for it and who didn't . I'm sure them voting records ( who was for ot and who was against it ) will be destroyed some day
