Born and raised in the Great State of Texas... That Flag is part of the south.. To all those ppl who think its racist or what not, need to grow up and see most ppl who have the flag proudly are not racist but PROUD of their southern roots..

I agree with you on that, in a similar sort of way. Ok so I don't fly the flag, I don't have it on my wall, tattooed, on sticker, but I do see it a lot and I don't mind.

Now I live in Texas, and grew up, and was educated through the Texas educational system. And if there was ever one thing that Pissed me Off the most was when we studied "The six flags" that flew over Texas.
Whenever we got to the Confederate flag, it was never shown. On top of that, at visitor centers where they fly the six flags, the Confederate was replaced by the Union's flag. I would think to myself, "Hey that never happened! Texas was part of the South not North." I completely agree when you say "we should be proud of our history and learn from it, as we grow." because we should.

I can understand the reason to shamefully remove the flag from the public, and textbooks. But its stupid! Its stupid to sacrifice accurate history for the sake of Political correctness, and public reputation. Yes the south fought for slavery, and yes they lost, but no need to try and bury the truth that Texas was part of the CSA for the sake of Offending other people. I also strongly detest any attempt to revise or change history in order to be politically correct to anyone, or any group. History happened the way it did, and if people are offended by it well too fucking bad for them, because truth is truth no matter how bad, or hurtful it is and nothing should ever try to change it.

As for the re-use of the Rebel flag in modern times, it simply reflects a generation's reclaiming of the flag and what it stood for, only to apply a different and modified meaning for present purposes. This is a common thing to do (think of the words "Gay", and the N-Word) for a modern culture to take something from past cultures, especially if they share heritage or history between them, whether it be it's symbolism or a certain representation and change it for use in modern times. In this case its the CSA's ideals of how Government should be, and also the representation of a rebel, being it was the south the "rebelled" against the north and seceded from the Union. Its these similar ideas and others that are reused today, and for the most part the racist connotations are not part of the equations for those that wear this flag proudly. But of course I cannot speak for everyone, as I know that there will be some who still use it to carry the traditional White Supremacy ideals with it, and it is with those I don't agree with.

Think of the flag like a big scar, some people look at the scar and are proud of it, as they see it as something that makes them different and unique. The scar gives them individuality as well as an edgier and more experienced look. While others will look upon the scar, and see an ugly mark that mares their skin. It makes them sick, as every time they look at it, they are flooded with memories of the terrible accident leading to its creation. Some detest it, others embrace it.

Oh, and BTW I love the pic, mostly the beautiful ass in it along with the hat.

I think you should take a picture naked with the Texas flag. It doesn't "symbolize" racism and since Texas used to be it's own country it's still like celebrating your heritage and saying "fuck you" to the federal government.

The main Confederate battle flag is not the flag depicted in the pic. The battle flag is square. I cant help that hate groups use this flag. Through a little research I learned that they often fly the American flag as well. The American flag flew on slave ships, not the confederate flag. All ships in international waters have flown there countries colors since Chris Columbus. If you hate the Confederate flag you gotta hate the US flag as well. Im not racist, I love history and I have respect for the men who laid there lives down for a cause.

 

U rock girl! i love me some g.r.i.t.s. I was born, raised, and reside in Texas and i love the south, but dont agree with hate. That flag reps southern pride to me and u, but to some it reps much more. i like seing it ( and u!) because i dont want it to go away.
