To the OP, since 20% of the people in the US have genital herpes and 80% of them don't know they have it and some of the ones who know they have it don't tell their partners, if you've been having unprotected sex there's a good chance you've already been exposed. Between herpes, HIV and HPV which causes cervical, anal and penile cancer, there's only one thing you can do to protect yourself - WRAP THAT RASCAL! Sure condoms don't give you 100% protection, but your alternative is to be celibate. Unless you're in a monogamous relationship and you abd your partner have been tested, you're taking a big risk.

I've had herpes for 30 years. I got it before AIDS was out there and it was the worst thing you could get. It was on the cover of TIME magazine in big red letters. I was celibate for years, thinking no man would ever touch me or love me again. But I came to my senses and got back out there and started dating again. I always tell my partners and in 30 years I've only had 2 men reject me because of it.

However, I think it might be harder for a man who has herpes. A woman who gets herpes has to worry about passing it to her children during delivery. That's a risk that a lot of women don't want to take.

From what I've read, virtually no man with herpes does not observe symptoms. So you're probably fine. Just go get tested for it and you'll know for sure.

As some mentioned, though, there are no guarantees of safety in sex.
